- Is the BSA Gold Star 650 the new king of the 650cc retro segment?
I honestly don't know about that, but I can tell you that this is a thoroughly modern riding motorcycle in the guise of something that looks like it came straight out of the 60s.
Watch this office commute of mine to know what I feel about this big single.

Thanks for giving me your time.
A big bore single. Loads of torque in the mid range. And it looks so beautiful!
Being an undersquare engine, it also doesn't behave like any RE single.
@@abhinavbhatt I love they kept the good old halogen lamps instead of those stupid LEDs that RE is fixated with.
@@AzharAlvisPercepts they could have put a candle instead and it would have done a better job than this halogen lamp.
candle..😂😂
btw All Bs6 bikes have shit headlights. Myself planning to get some good bulb or a led headlight. @@abhinavbhatt

Hello, I am in the UK, I own a 2022 BSA Gold Star Legacy Edition. The first mods I made to my machine was to replace the rear shocks with a pair of Girling shrouded classic style shocks intended for a BSA A10 or Triumph T120 model. The Girlings are a vast improvement over the stock units. The next mod that I made was to install a tail tidy to raise the mounting of the rear lights and licence plate up to the rear mudguard.
I also installed a clocks raising bracket, it raises the instruments up by about 2" and the also face the rider better than the stock bracket. The instrument lower cups are polished aluminium instead of the stock plastic items. I also replaced the stock horn with a Lucas replica horn, I have other mods to do to put my stamp on my BSA. I am 68-years-old and I also ride my Harley-Davidson XL883N and XR1200 models, I intend to ride as long as I can.
Can you share the video link?
@@avipawar6178 Sorry, I haven't made a video of my BSA yet, the bike is in storage at the moment due to a thick cataract in my right eye, I am currently waiting for the cataract to be removed and an artificial lens implanted.

Honesty and a good sense of practicality and judgement is what I appreciate when it comes to bike reviews. Because our decisions come under a lot of influence. And you have been pretty fair. Cheers.
Thanks
We are blessed with so many good bikes these days.
It is actually a spiritual successor to classic 500. Mahindra beat Sid Lal to the rebirth of a legend
It is not. This is a short stroke. I thought it was a successor to the 500 but it rides in a completely different manner.
@@abhinavbhattdoes it keep chugging at lower speed at higher gears ?
@@imkrrishnayak no.
This machine is a work of an art ❤
Good show Classic legends, you just hit the ball out of the park 🔥
I never noticed Abhinav getting this much of excited this much of laughter during reviewing a motorcycle 😂❤.
Well, it is a fun bike!
@@abhinavbhatt indeed💯
I am a classic 500 owner. I love that engine and still own it. So from last year i wanted to upgrade,I tried my hands at interceptor and it wasn’t for me. I thought of switching to super meteor. But didn’t really want the character of a twin engine. I was waiting for your video on bsa and bamn, every word u used to describe this bike is exactly what i hoped this bike should be. I am sold on this as a fellow single cylinder enthusiast i needed your stamp of approval. Love from kashmir.
But do remember this is a short stroke motor and not a long stroke like the 500. So the character is still quite different. It doesn't chug in low gears.
@abhinavbhatt
Thats actually a good call out. However since RE doesn’t have plans for a big single and this being the only single available in retro segment, i guess riders of our lineage might have to adjust as i dont see anything else anytime soon as an option . Although nothing else beats a big single with a long stroke. Damn , i would have loved a classic 650 with a big single.

i just took the delivery on 16th, the Insignia Red. I saw over a 100 reviews in the past 2 years, but felt your review was the best..though this one is very long video, i did not fast forward even a second. I watched your other bike reviews too...the Himalayan 450 on the trail was exceptionally superb..very honest reviews..bigg thumps up to you. :)
Congratulations on the new bike :)
@@abhinavbhatt Thank you so much
The comparison with the Classic 500 is spot on!
That's the first thing that came to my mind when I rode the BSA.

Thanks for the review, you got the vibe it's a mid life crisis bike😅. I booked it exactly for the reasons you mentioned.
I want this bike in my garage...as a stablemate to my Speed400. BTW my 59th b'day was the day before!! Pl upgrade the age references in your vids man!!😅
Haha. Happy birthday, man 🎂
40. Same feeling to put this aside to my speed400😬
I dont need a motorcycle but i was still looking forward to buying it, however with only 5 gears and tubed tyres im getting second thoughts.
I love this bike! I'm old enough to remember the first BSA Gold Star. Made by the Mahindra corp., I believe.
Great ride review, perfect modern retro 👌
Thanks
@abhinavbhatt......This must be one of the more enjoyable videos you've done. I could hear and see the glee in you when talking about the bike.
It’s sounds nice ! some suspension upgrades and should be able to tour on this I think. .
dei, you ageist fella...am 53, and am thinking of this to keep my V-Strom 650 company. I miss the Street Twin 900...it was beautiful in every way (except the continuous electrical and electronic issues), so need something like this to get my wife back on the pillion seat...was waiting for your review...will also wait for that TwentyThreeRides guy's review to drop...
I’m into the mid thirties too😅. This might be my next bike. Thanks for the proper review. Just one question, does it have a big turning radius.
I did not find the turning radius to be big.
I really like the halogen headlamps because the led ones are pretty bad in these bikes with little to no illumination and only blind the incoming traffic
What a beautiful Machine!!! 🖤🖤
Its probably the only bike in india that that is relevant from age 30- 80. Would love to have.
Honestly speaking this bike is doing quiet well for the classic legends but ahh there are still quality issues....like
1) the front forks they have welding marks which could be removed if quality standards were better
2) fuel tank has very dirty welding marks on the fuel cap area
3) fuel cap doesnt feel like a good built aka the weight of the fuel cap seems like made of plastic
4) exhaust pipe is so dirty looking coz it goes inside the chassis to the catalytic converter and comes back and so its not straight pipe which the modern classic should have and for that reason they kept some shields to make it look straight......if they could integrate the catalytic converter inside the exhaust pipe like how the interceptor is made it wouldnt look dirty
5) the side panels cant be opened easily coz there aint no key inserts......wish it was there just like how u said @abhinav u didnt like how the hondas did it with their cb350s using an allen key for opening the seat which makes it inconvenience.....if it would have been easy to open easily it would be great
6) the horn is kept on the left side so u hear it make noise from the left side also the horn is not so good interms of the sound quality
and obviously the centre stand is required for chain lube........the pros are true on what u said @abhinav and also it looks very classic coz i have seen it in flesh but the quality issues that i mentioned above had just made me not want to buy that....yes if they improve the quality than surely will buy
Last but not the least if they kept a locking mechanism so that when i hit 1st gear and when i try to go down again it wont let me and similarly if i am at 5th gear and i try to up again the gear it shouldn't.... this would help to atleast make it easy to understand that i am at the last gear or the first gear
Man said the right things. Indian audience would just get up and straight compare with RE products. Guys it’s a Big Single it’s characterics would be different. RE has pushed 4 different bikes from same plaform so obviously there pricing will be better. But check the bike yourselves first. Ride it experience it. You are getting full fat Brembo brakes. Under 8-9 lakhs u just see Nissin and Bybre. And the pirelli tyres. Even RE did the cost cutting and put CEAT tyres on there 4 lakh rupees bikes. Take a test drive and decide what suits u. Just comparing spec sheets won’t do justice
Hi Abhinav congrats on the new bike. Just wondering what those gloves you’re wearing are, if you wouldn’t mind sharing. Thanks
Hi. This is a media bike. The gloves are Royal Enfield Vamos. store.royalenfield.com/en/hector-gloves-black-2xl-24cm-black?srsltid=AfmBOopvFgMfhhJBySGoNUjkFbZ9xfUPKhnFeo3k7I_hB6RMPaf3y-q0
Good job Abhi. Wonder who else other than yours truly propelled u to planet bsa in your last video. This is pure motorcycling at its very best. The downside is classic legends dodgy service reputation. Servicing this bike at home isn't going to be easy either. Replacing the oil filter hidden inside the right side crank case is a herculean task. No option for centre-stand or alloy wheels and much more. Pitted against the interceptor this may come out on top. But only on paper. In the real world credibility is built over centuries.
gorgeous bike, great review
Thank you.
Uncle's gonna have honda highness trauma flashbacks if he buys the BSA 😅 not able to ride his own new bike.
I could never get used to driving on the wrong side of the road
Nice bike want one !! But I own a T120 😃
You really liked the BSA..Great review! You also liked the RE Guerrilla 450 a lot. Which one do you prefer? They are both the same price in the UK at the moment.
BSA, I think.
Bro ❤ we love good machines ❤
Will be good to see the BSA GS 650 go up against an RE Classic 650 Twin (when it does come out)… i think i will wait until i ride the RE Classic-650 twin… and then make my decision 😊
Actually, that will be the perfect middlegeound. Comfort superior to the BSA and the smoothness of the Interceptor.
What camera you are using
It's going sideways a lot but the viewing angle is great
So wanted to ask about the mounting position
GoPro Hero 11 on the chin.
Thanks Abhinav. For a middle aged rider getting back to riding, the BSA or the Guerilla for weekend rides? Worried about the spoke wheels on the BSA though.
I think you should test ride both of them. If I were to pick a bike for me for weekends, it would be the BSA.
Problem is with the spare parts, Imagine if a cat tears the seat you need to wait for more than a month to get it repaired from service centre
My cat has already claimed its seat.
Really liking this format. Could you review the RS 457 maybe kind sir?
Hi. I want to, I just don’t know anybody in Aprilia. I’ll ask around.
What is your height Abhinav? Will it be comfortable for tall riders(5ft11"/6ft guys), given the lowish seat height. That's my only concern.
I'm 5'10 and yeah, the seat is quite low. Take a test ride before buying.
@@abhinavbhatt you look taller than 5,10 , probably 5,11" .
Great bike .
I have no confidence on the after sales service...my friend had a java and he hated it
Nice riding, i have noticed clattering sound of engine in most of review videos especially from uk , how engine sounds at idling and on city speeds.
I found it to be fairly silent.
Hi, i am interested in purchasing this bike but is is good for tall riders, also for rider and pillion , what your views on long run? Aftersales and parts availability and durability of this bike, what your view should i go for purchase of this bike?
I'll have to spend more time with this bike to answer such questions.
Nice. The only real worry about BSA that I have, is the service network. Nothing beats RE in that regard. Also has this bike finished running in? f not, I assume that will open it up even further.
The bike has done about 250 km. Most done by me. Yeah, it will become smoother, faster and more efficient after the first service.
Also, in big cities, the service won't really be an issue.
Great review as always. How was the heat from the engine (compared to interceptor) and the turning radius? 37:43 seems the turn was easy
Heat is well controlled. Turning radius isn't a problem.
Nice vid
Thanks
Initial pickup is better than interceptor. That makes a lot difference in buying decisions.
I don't think so. Most buying this bike would not care. Both bikes are quick enough. It boils down to what kind of engine character do you prefer. The Interceptor has an engine that will appeal to 9 out of 10 customers but the BSA is a better looking and more comfortable motorcycle.
@@abhinavbhatt ok
i don’t regret buying interceptor now😅..
Who is regretting? They are very different bikes. May keep both.
Talking about myself sir 😅 .. love the character of twin.. especially after riding dominar and classic 350
35:14 that was funny 😂😂😂
Hi Abhinav. a question from a potential buyer looking for low rpm cruising. among classic 350, bsa goldstar which does 100-120kmph at lower rev range ? looking for a bike with low reving engine
If you want to cruise at 100-120, Classic is not the option for you.
Speedo looks so weird though...adat nahi hai na aisa speedo dekhne ki...
Bro will a new throttle map fix the snactchy throttle issue ?
Depends on the tuning of the map.
Hello Abhinav! What is the recommended service cycle for this bike?
6,000 km and twice a year.
How light is the clutch if compared to a Duke 390 clutch?
I haven’t ridden the Duke 390.
I saw a interceptor 650 vs bsa drag race video and another race with the duke 390 i noticed one thing is BSA GOLDSTAR 650s supension was really awesome and the bike was really stable at high speeds. In a video where BSA and interceptor had race in that video the interceptor was really unstable and wobbling crazily at high speed even the rider was screaming WOBBLING!!! WOBBLING!!!... because its really scary if a bike wobbles at high speeds but the BSA was with the interceptor on the same speed and the bsa had no wobbling issue and BSA was the most stable bike I ever saw to reach 190km speed in this price range and had no wobbling issue or had no problems at all. And the BSA Rocketing towards the 190 km speed. The original Gold Star made in Britain in 1938, set numerous speed records and dominated racing circuits, becoming the 'gold standard' for performance motorcycles of its time and that is how the goldstar got its name and seeing the goldstar named bike again coming back to life to race with this new generation bikes and beating them in races really makes me happy
This is not a high speed bike. Anybody riding it the way those kids do it for RUclips doesn't understand this bike. This is an 80-90 kmph bike with overtaking power.
@@abhinavbhatt sir.
that is a very well put together statement for this bike..
Can i know which riding gloves you are wearing 😊
Royal Enfield Vamos
bro, did you checked guerrilla 450 tank fit in Himalayan 450
No. I don't have the Guerrilla with me.
Please do a similar review of Husqvarna 401
If I get access to it, I will.
Interceptor or this?
It will differ from person to person. Test drive and decide. Interceptor has creamier power delivery due to being a twin. This is more comfortable.
LED lights blind others, but it should be bright enough many LED units are also not good.
But then the halogen should have been enough. It is not.
Nice
Thanks
whats the location ?
Brother what is your work after the commute
I'm a journalist.
How do you manage to ride so slow and calm?
I thought with age, I would calm down.....but I am addicted to Torque....I only buy wheels which r Torque monsters.....I twist, I zoom 💀
I ride a scrambler 900 btw if anyone cares.
I've become slower with age.
Trust on claasic legends to mess up the odometer and buttons on their bikes
These are now super bargains - they have tanked the price of a new bike over here in England - i assume that is echoed everywhere
It's the Enfield effect.
