Ha! A Desert Sled! I actually bought my 2021 Desert Sled in part based in your original review Chris. I also took it to Wales in 2022 to do some skids and wheelies. It's an awesome bike and I'm never selling mine.
I am deeply in love with my 2021 Desert Sled... Nope, never selling mine... Every ride, no matter how short or long, just keeps inducing a never ending smile inside the helmet. Its a beautiful looking, nimble, torquey, fun bike, which gobbles bad roads and no roads with ease and is a superb traffic carver. As far as mods go, my best mods on this bike has been the SW Motech Adv Foot Pegs, Hepco & Baker tail rack, a set of Baja Designs S1 LED Pods, change of the stock headlight bulb to LED, front fork dust covers, Barkbusters ( i chose the Yellow guards as a contrast to the white and blue, looks amazing to me) and lastly a RAM mount for the phone strategically placed beside the right oriented meter console. The regrettable mod has been the exhaust. I installed a Leo Vince exhaust but started having headaches on medium long rides. So switched back to the stock one. Only issues faced with the bike: The tank cap is prone to pitting corrosion The rubber hoses on the right side of the engine had all weather cracked and had to be replaced as a set.
Love it Chris!! I have the same Desert Sled and have managed to do the Colorado BDR with it. Roughly 1000 miles of jeep, fire, and gravel roads and not a single problem. It's a surprisingly capable machine. I did however change the tires to shinko 504/505's.
This is the only bike I regret selling, loved my Ducati Desert Sled❤❤❤ But must say Husqvarna Svarpilen 801 is now great replacement 😊😂😂 Chris great video
I did almost all the same mods to my 2018 black Desert Sled. Tail tidy, Bark Busters, crash bungs etc. No loud pipe on mine though and I had to change the seat. I found the original so uncomfortable on long rides I have a Sargent seat on mine. An aftermarket rear hugger helps to keep the filth at bay too as these bikes throw road filth everywhere on a wet day!
Food for thought...the OEM "tail" is very useful for fastening soft luggage (such as my Mosko Moto). Depending on your tail tidy, you might lose that attribute.
As a Monster 1100 owner, I've always got a soft spot for the air-cooled lumps. Can't believe it was five years ago you did that off-road test - your hoodie would match the original black bike's tank scheme perfectly!
In reality, these bikes are too loud. Never been able to find an exhaust that I like for mine. Stock is too quiet, but all the aftermarket mufflers are way too loud, even lugging along try to be quiet, they're loud. Currently have a TBR with the quiet insert, and it's still the loudest bike in my garage.
Recently replaced my black Sled for an Aprilia Tuareg. I'm sure I won't regret it. But also not sure! 😬A couple of changes I made to my Sled which you might appreciate: larger footpegs, preferably slightly lowered (you'll find the brake pedal is very low and that's one way to compensate). With a small modification, pegs from other Ducatis will fit eg Multistrada and Desert X. An adjusting gear lever helped too. Evotech's worked well. A bigger upgrade, but definitely worth it in the long run, is a suspension upgrade, or at least a suspension rework (valves and shims). Other than that, overall an awesome bike!
I started watching this as I have a sled...I got about 18 months ago........in fact the bike I have in my garage is the very one you had KP18😎 Although after seeing it here im not sure if I should be happy or not. Its still in remarkabley unmarked and excellent condition.
@@97210 it’s for the older scrambler, we’re going to have to make a couple of adjustments, we’re checking in with them soon about updating to the later scrambler.
Too loud. Nice sound, but need to be a bit more stealthy these days to avoid too much attention from the wrong people. I've yet to find an exhaust for mine that's a bit louder than stock, without being painfully loud. It's my only complaint about the bike.
Owned this exact bike and sold it because it’s impossible to do maintenance on it and it’s so expensive and heavy. Sucks in the heat. It’s just a pretty and heavy bike and expensive as hell
I suspect you'd find any bike hard to work on, these bikes are relatively easy compared to a lot, most others... It's also not that heavy. What are you used to riding ?
Was never a fan of the "soup can" exhausts that got to be popular in the recent decade. Their tone is atrocious, even if loudness is where you want it. Also I don't understand how they can cost so much for so little material. Put a big open throat muffler on it, with straight-through core. Deep and rich, and just as loud.

Watching Chris turn the wrenches on a rainy Sunday afternoon? Never not clicking. Delightful content, as always!

Chris great video
I had desert sled for 3 years and sold it to buy desertx. DS is such a lovely bike. It has nice style and air cooled engine. I really miss my DS.
Test rode one… bought it. Love this bike. I modded mine with EvoTech stuff which is great quality.
Hope to see more on the DS, such an underrated bike!

Myself owner of scrambler 1100 sports. Love air cool motor for its simplicity. Until traffic u have to spread ur legs.
lol you did exactly all my upgrades - I’ve this same color and 8500 miles between nc500, Ireland and alpine roads
my gawd that pipe sound was unreal

Nice one, I also have a 2018 DS partly after watch your review of the black version
I just wish customising bikes like this wasn't so expensive. It's fun but also a lot of $$$.
Thats a nice Bike 😝👍
I wish I still had my Suzuki DR250SH. Japan only model. Mind you, it would be 34 years old.
That slip on is definitely going to get you pulled 😅
Nice video 😊
Hey Chris, love your workshop videos. Do you still have the FTR? Would be great to see what you've done with it.
What brand are the pannier racks? I have a black 18 DS. Want a rear rack as well. Did a Leo Vince full pipe. Should do fuel controllerl as well
Those are Ducati racks Kenny, smaller on the exhaust side.
I have the same DS, a 2021 and got the SW Motech racks and 10 litter panniers. Very happy with them.
I want one of these
Where is Al these days? I miss seeing him on camera! He was good value
If its so popular it makes me wonder why Ducati discontinued it ??
No idea, possibly would detract from the Desert X.
Sure, not quite what we call a sled up here in Canada lad. Fit a snow track to er and then your sledding! Lol
PS That Austin looks, (or should I say _sounds_ !) a lot less restrictive than the stock system. Will you be needing a remap?
Hi, we're not sure yet. Most probably, it's spitting flames!
@BikeWorldTVshow 🔥 If you don't want a bespoke dyno remap, I can recommend a Rexxer reflash, which is what I have on mine. Very smooth fuelling.
I want the cafe racer. Dream bike but I need to get my next class of licence. Just 1 year now
What model slip on is that? Can’t find it on their website for the DS 800

@@petewatson9866 The RR? It’s all done, we just need to do a final ride, our Sponsors Motul are currently using it to promote the series.
I don’t know man, I think I’ll put my Triumph Scram up against that bike any day!!
If only it came with tubeless wheels …
i dont like the front fender ..its like cheap motorcross ...the sound is good now!
