    I think what's most interesting is that it starts with todrick being arrested and knowing nothing we automatically assume he's done something bad or wrong but as the story progresses we see how wrongful his incarceration is and how corrupt society actually is.
    I think that just goes to show how skewed the public perspective can be.

    This is altogether genius. Notice he lives on Novyart Street, and that’s where the white man was shot. Backwards, Novyart spells Trayvon. Nacirema backwards is American. Enhancing the thesis of the film: making everything backwards, so that maybe other people can see the ridiculousness, the horror of how America treats those who are “different.” This film went from the initial thought popping into Todrick’s head, to COMPLETION, in THREE MONTHS. He needs a Tony. An Oscar and an Emmy. A Nobel Peace Prize. Todrick, you are the Beethoven, the Shakespeare, the Andy Warhol of today’s generation. Watching your art, my jaw found its new home on the floor. Every standing ovation to you Mr. Hall. You can’t be real.

      There is brainwashing through the Bible or how people in power interpret the Bible, which equals brainwashing. There is also gender centric toys used as this happens at birth, which explains why gender is a social construct. More people in music should be spreading such awarness through their talents.

  • @benjiroy8774
    @benjiroy8774 6 лет назад +284

    That was an emotional experience. I feel like Straight Outta Oz was a test to see how much people would appreciate calling out all these societal problems, and when it did well, Todrick was like "Bitch, hold my weave and let me spill the REAL tea" and then made this absolute masterpiece. Seeing a role reversal for 1.5 hours REALLY makes you get the idea and by the end, it almost seemed normal, but that "normal" is very wrong, which is apparent the whole time. Then it makes you think, "this is literally society but backwards" and then realize that if there is a reverse of this, that reality is also very wrong, and we need to fix that. Loved the detail of it being 2080, and then 11 years after the incident (early 90's) it started getting better, which is very accurate. The old timey clothes and the classic design of the back drops contrasting the modern clothes and rave-esque forbidden location was a really nice touch too. I loved everything about this.

If you don't fit a mold it doesn't matter how talented you are because silver spoon was as generic as you could get but they loved her. Just like todrick deserves a god damn Grammy several times over but he won't get it any time soon because of the industry mold he breaks a million times over.

The fact that it was an all black audience watching another race pour their talents out but it isn't enough is a parallel to those occurrences in the past.

      If only issues were so clearly black vs white/gay vs straight/religion vs anti-religion/fat vs skinny/left vs right/right vs wrong.
      Sadly everything really is much more complex.
      There is no clear answer other than to give everyone else the same grace you want to receive.
      We have to accept that sometimes the people we would like to fantasize as completely innocent victims are more complex, as well. Just as those we would like to paint as evil oppressors are also much more complex.
      And that the media and politicians play us to further their agenda.
      If anything, this wonderful story proves that nothing is clearly one way or another, but a mix of both.
      With every piece of beauty there is a bit of darkness. With every moment of purity there is a drop of evil.
      Because without one, we cannot recognize the other.

    So much talent, everything is reversed :
    - Nacirema is where they live
    -The American flag is reversed
    -Gay is the norm and heterosexuality is the sin
    -"Adam and Steve"
    -To be heterosexual and able to breed is considered an awful thing
    -Women live with women, men live with men
    -Black are privileged and White are below (90% of the people we see is black, the mayor is black, the workers are white, in the prison we see mainly white ppl)
    -When todrick lands money, it is mainly white neighbours who come...
    In ordinary day it is all displayed, especially the black/white relation of power
    Todrick really thought of it all, and there is so much more, like the name of the street, he is TALENTED
    Bring him an Oscar.

    This was so much more than what we just saw on our screen. This was a piece of pure perfection. Not a parody, not a jab, not a joke. This is a view of real life for so many! To see things flipped & put into perspective from the point of view of the ones who have had to fight for the things that a huge majority of us take for granted & cannot begin to understand the magnitude of pain & anguish they've endured from just wanting/trying to live their lives being who they are, was unbelievably eye opening. I am a 38 yo white woman that accepts everybody & loves that we are all different, black/white/gay/straight/short/tall/skinny/Fluffy etc. Even though I embrace it & do not agree with hating others or changing others for being different then me, I live in a world where others do not follow my same beliefs/values. I know I cannot ever truly understand or know what others have had to go through, I can help to fight to make everyone equal & differences embraced! Todrick, you are a beautiful genius! Ty so much for this beautiful beautiful video! You truly have a gift & deserve the moon my love! ❤️❤️❤️

You can’t help who you love and you should be able to love who you want to love without being hated and shunned. I am in the middle of my first time watching this and I want to extend the same feeling towards you as it hurts my heart how the world treats those of differing races. I was born and raised in Alaska and we have one of the most diversified schools in the nation. I was blessed to be raised with morals without prejudice and my friends were chosen by their merit not by their physical attributes. However I went out of state to college and witnessed racism for the first time and it shook me to my core. I didn’t understand it. I couldn’t comprehend it, I still don’t. So I have the same prayer as you. I hope I conveyed my sentiments appropriately, words are hard to find right now as I’m taken aback by the emotion Toderik evoked with this masterpiece of a production.

    I like how when the guy was singing “ordinary day” it represented how officers are killing black men and just going on with their lives hence “ordinary day “. And I also liked how at the end someone was literally sweeping “it” under the rug. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

      When blacks get killed it is not swept under the rug it is sad but definitely not swept under the rug (at least in the last 20 years). If a cop kills someone unjustly they should be charged with whatever they did wrong but to say “swept under” is factually incorrect a vast majority of the shootings and riots over these shootings were completely justified or the police officers were treated with justice or sent to jail.

    This whole thing is incredibly SMART [I mean of course! it's TODRICK] but one thing honestly stood out how much emphasis the news reporter put on just describing the woman rather than saying her name! This is golden! This whole thing deserves so much recognition

    • @JordanSedai
      @JordanSedai 6 лет назад +2

      You aren't wrong, that details adds to the effect, but I kind of get the impression that in terms of the story, they didn't know who the woman was specifically, just that he was being heterosexual (even though there were witnesses and they should have known). Cause if they did know who she was, they would have probably arrested and convicted her as well.

    Truly, a most enlightening masterpiece. I come back to this piece of art every year or so (give or take). And every time I'm moved in ways, I didn't think possible again. Definitely doesn't get the credit and acknowledgment it deserves. I will share ALWAYS.

    I rarely write comments, I felt compelled to do so. This is absolutely brilliant. Please know that you have made this 57 year old, straight progressive Christian proud. Your work stretches us, makes us look when we want to look away; it makes us think and feel. You will be accused of not being enough of this or that, but in you little brother, God has given us something new, something more. Please take care of you. Rest, heal love and be loved. We ALL need you. I love you.

    I don't know how I came across this video. Much less how it got recommended to my feed. But I absolutely love his genius mind for teaching us how to see through the eyes of those who are struggling. Those who are deemed "strange" or "touched". I pray for the healing of everyone being affected by the brutality of everyone around them. Thank you for this video.
