I love your videos, Jack! I wanted to add that the plastic surgery info you showed actually took place during World War I. That makes it even more amazing, to me! Since a large amount of the fighting was in trenches, men who stood up straight or peered over the parapet ended up with terrible facial and head wounds. Without the amazing surgeon who basically invented new techniques, many of them would have become outcasts because of their disfigurement. Thanks for sharing info on this awesome story.

The Japanese soldier that didn't surrender until 1974 actually refused to surrender. He had been sent communications that the war had ended but only surrendered when his former commanding officer personally told him to give up.

No matter how many times I learn about Wojtek (even though it's always the same since there's only so much on him...) It always makes me smile.
Random fun fact.. there's no record of Hitler himself EVER killing ANYONE by his own hands... However of the MANY people he had killed by others... He did save ONE Jew..

I'm sad that there were so few really cool history teachers out there. The one I had through junior high and high schools (small town - small school) told us a lot of these, because he understood that macabre and gross facts would get kids interested in history better than facts and dates.
He was old... he had been just 18 years old at the end of World War II, stationed in India, and on a clean-up crew at an air base. - - They cleaned up air crashes and explosions, which often meant human body parts - severed hands or feet still in boots, etc., laying off by themselves, looking incongruous and surreal. He would tell those stories and have rooms of kids rapt in shock, horror, and awe. He realized early-on that firing that imagination, the same way that ghost stories do, would have us all looking forward to class each time. And he used his own experiences and hunted down as many hidden facts as possible throughout history to keep us coming back for more with ears and minds open. He was a very smart man.

Edit: Also, going to war SHOULD be a vote, and people who say yes should go to war. I know people who have seen, felt and heard some of the most horrific things because of being drafted, and people shouldn't have to enter war just because their government leaders (who rarely even know what really goes on in war) want them to.

They will teach you about 12 things in social studies that have nothing to do with the current world. Why? Because why make life easy, when they can teach us stuff from 100 years ago that no one cares to remember.

Busy work because school is for babysitting kids, or either work thats so easy and dumbed down to avoid hurting someones feelings is all schools contain now seems like.
The ONLY way a child would fail is by absences, which happened to my sister, our mom had brain surgery and it was difficult on her before she began homeschool, and even though the school approved the doctors notes as valid excuses they said after 10 EXCUSED absences (hello, its in the phrase), your child fails. Regardless of passing tests and even making up assignments.
