Good thing that you were able to fix the leak on the Radiator Valve, those are a ton of fun to chisel out of the Radiator when you need to replace them!
@@thehvachacker yeah I salvaged a few old two pipe radiators to practice removing both the 3/4 inch supply and 1/2 inch return. I used a file and a saw blade to cut out the brass spud and got both out, luckily without cracking the Radiator or damaging the threads. I learned that the most important tool for that job was good patience.
Just a question not an attack. Would it habe been better to remove the strainer and clean it or flushing like you did will do the the same? I don't currently work on boilers that's why I'm asking. Thanks
Yes strainer should be pulled especially if low or no flow has occurred, and checked, but if frequently done once per season is all that's necessary. JS🤔 Stay safe. 30 year apprentice. Wear your safety glasses.
A full maintenance was set up on this boiler for this week. They are just moving in. When I am working 8:30pm on a Friday night and another call to still get to, I am just looking to get the heat to run. If a system needs maintenance i set up a maintenance appointment during regular working hours
wondering the reason people don't run treatment in the boilers? i have a hot water oil cast iron boiler copper baseboard and run a treatment to keep out scale and keep the PH neutral.
Why do so many guys use a slip joint pliers on tightening nuts, you can’t get a proper tighten use an adjustable wrench on the union nut and hold the body of the valve with a stilson.
U underestimate the downward force my 235lbs pushes down on my knipex cobras. It’s not like I didn’t have 2-24’s next to me if I felt I wasn’t getting anywhere with the cobra pliers. Those pliers don’t slip why I was able to step on the pliers using my weight. I did get that but to turn. Important thing is to make sure not to topple radiator. Which I was holding up with my hands.
I do recommend draining the boiler once a week to get the mud out. Once a year a good maintenance where all the drains are flushed. Yet weekly drain down helps prevent the mud settling at bottom of boiler.
The boiler water is at boiling temps when steam boiler is heating. That pump pushes water with lots of iron and muddy water. I believe the bronze series 100 is the only pump that last. cartilage pumps don't last and get noisy from the gunk and heat.
The 24's were right next to me just in case this wouldn't move. I usually only take apart when I can't get any movement to tighten that union. Another rad I had a really hard time with this weekend. I took one apart couldn't pull the pipe up to the height to reconnect. I stopped filming kicked the camera during the struggle, reconnecting the union. Took a pipe wrench, put it under back legs of the rad getting the union to catch.

Sometimes I get lucky and remove with wrench, many steam fittings need to be cut and folded in to get threads to let go.

Always 2 wrenches in plumbing/hvac a set wrench (back up) and a moving wrench- both pipe offset style in this case.
Do you recommend flushing out the steam boiler every week to prevent muddy water?

great job my boy ed bon jovi
I LOL when you used pliers on those nuts. You are a nut.. get some wrenches..lol
I agree 100% with Mr. W. He is totally nut trying to loosen the steam union with a small pliers. He should use two big pipe wrenches
Why the bronze body pump on a cast iron boiler and what in the heck is it feeding?
Baseboard heaters, using the hot water from the boiler.
Because it holds up better against mud and crap.
Using the hot water from bottom of boiler for a hot water loop.

Good 1 Hackster ...
Hi mate, are you a Steve lav's family member? your voice is pretty similar.
Anyway good job and thank you for the content😉
Hi, no relation to Steve. Yet he has good content
You're both real working men.
I found its best to loosen the packaging but a but before moving especially if not moved much
bill i would take apart with a 24 and clean or change edbonjovi leak master plumbing

Too thick to drink, too thin to plow. Thx.
CHUNKY CHOCOLATE YUMMMI
Nice sludgy rust coming out of the drain. Doesn’t anyone believe in chemical treatment for this type of system?
Seems to me he doesn’t know what he’s doing. Just breathes hard a lot.
