Next time you want a drop of blood, use a lancet from a diabetic's gluco test kit. Its a spring loaded little needle and please use an alcohol wipe. You don't want to lose a finger due to infarction.

Would adding iron in any other form be able to act as a catalyst too? Like if I had a pure iron rod and dipped it in the solution would anything happen? Or is it only with the iron in the blood?

Since iron acts as a catalyst and not exactly the blood itself, does that mean that using a piece of iron metal would cause things to glow?

The video was about how to do it, the ingredients were listed clearly, even to the extent of getting houshold bleach to get the glow.

Wouldn't the blood be different when dried up(i assume that's how most blood in crimes are found)? Or does the catalyst stay the same?

Try animal blood... you can pick up buckets of cows, pigs or pretty much any other animals blood at a slaughter house or butcher shop, the guys on Mythbusters were pretty good at sourcing stuff like that :)
Then Trace Dominguez doesn't have to make a blood sacrifice for science.

***** Use Sulfuric Acid and Perhydrol , in old bath on fresh air . Be careful it may explode . After reaction you should recieve black goo made of simple compounds . Bury it . I think that should help . :D

So you showed people to how cover homicide with bleach, and then you tell people "don't try this at home". I assume that you don't want other people commit crimes just because they can get away with it. However, I think it's safe to say that we can conduct this reaction at home with some blood. (maybe from another animal? I mean, it doesn't have to be humans, right?)

Luminol works with the hydrogen peroxide and sodium hydroxide to create a reaction with the iron present in hemoglobin exhibiting a blue glow for tracking blood... If you are too incompetent to know that hemoglobin is a protein then you probably shouldn't acquire the necessary tools for this lab because you have not earned the joy earned in doing this lab... Besides it wouldn't be as fun on a chicken...
