RUclips is an incredible platform for learning. I think a lot of people (eg: me) are quite visual learners, and just by being exposed to explanations by people who know their stuff and also make it interesting, information sticks over time and you start to be able to build on previous things. I started about a year and a half ago with electronics videos, barely remembering V=IR from highschool, and when I first started I was lost quite a bit, but picked up little bits at a time on several different channels. I now can understand just about any schematic shown and understand and can follow along complex topics. I'm hoping to get the same for chemistry, as my one university clsss I took on it had a lousy professor and it has always kind of stuck in my craw. As the OP said: I may not have fully understood the exact formulas and mechanisms of each reaction shown, but the general idea of reduction and oxidation reactions cycling, as well as the idea of diffusion producing the wave effects made enough sense that I had a decent picture working in my head. Cool video as always.

It's so bloody awesome to see a real-life (and totally O.G!) reaction-diffusion (RD) reaction! So cool! I've been very inspired by BZ for many years myself as well. Self-organization / pattern-formation is an utterly fascinating phenomena! I am not a chemist, but have played with digital simulations in this realm a lot (examples on my channel).. and I wonder whether it might eventually be possible to find a real chemical reaction that supports moving solitons (sorta the RD equivalent of gliders) or even just a chemical version of Gray Scott RD (which already contains moving/spinning solitons for specific values of parameters F and k). Sounds potentially complicated but I think that could be a really cool thing to explore! Love your work, huge ups!

That's how college level science is, dear. It's about YOU learning. Things aren't supposed to be spoonfed to you. Life isn't about sone guy on youtube making pretty reactions and you passively listening to them explain everything. The field of science doesn't need stupid people like that who need everything presented to them in a pretty package.

Wow. This was mesmerizing! Some of the splotches almost look like the type of mold that grows on rotting fruits and stuff. Or certain fungi that grows on trees. I wonder if there's a correlation on why it looks kind of similar or if it's just a coincidence.
Stephan Wolfram's Physics model is that the world is fundamentally computation, where the universe is like a Turing machine running all possible rules. If you want to know more about why there is an incredible number of different chemical reactions that are possible, look into Wolfram's Physics and his book New Kind of Science. If you imagine the world as a Turing Machine, then it makes perfect sense why there are near infinite possible chemical reactions, only from only the 118 elements of the periodic table (who's to say 118 isn't just an arbitrary number of elements based on their stability? Perhaps there are also a near infinite possible atoms that just aren't stable) It's no coincidence that biology is just one set of possible chemical reactions (molecular structures) to exist.

I’m obsessed with the color of the ferrous sulfate
"I didn't need barely any of it, but I went all out and got 5lbs of this stuff that I might not ever use again for a long time if ever"
How is stuff like this even discovered? It's such a specific concoction its a wonder anyone ever discovered it.
Bc you can think what specific elements do when together with another element etc. So you have to work what you know and discover new things

I wish they taught chemistry this well in schools.
They do in colleges and some private schools. They can’t do this in public school because it’s too expensive
I'm not talking about showing every reaction live. They can break down the reaction via video also that would be way cheaper, so why teachers don't do that?
@@mr.bazuka9756 teachers are't actually teachers in the age we live in. Being a teacher is a job like packing a shop is a job, they are there to get paid by following the script they're given. If you get a teacher that cares you've struck gold and your mind will be expanded in ways you could never imagine. Teacher is a title earned, not a job applied for
This is far beyond high school chemistry

"bromate" sounds like something you'd call a very close friend

I like calling people "bromide".
All my friends are bromous
Can we be bromates? All I wanna do is play video games, maybe cuddle a little.
Interestingly, there is a type of very simple computer program called a "cyclic cellular automation" that looks *exactly* like this chemical reaction.
Intrestingly intresting enough to be intresting.

you cannot fathom how much i wish i had discovered your channel when i was in college and taking chem classes. i was unable to become hooked from the course material and just got overwhelmed and bored but for some reason i truly love listening to you go over different chemical reactions and it stimulates my long dead love for science. if i had time now, i would get back into chem thanks to you but alas my life has moved elsewhere. i enjoy binging your videos and maybe if i can find the opportunity ill get back into chem and do things that i loved in my early life.
yeah its amazing on how bad school is at teaching you and make it fun ( might be because youre made to memorize not learn but alas)

I wonder if there's a correlation on why it looks kind of similar or if it's just a coincidence.
it’s cellular automata but irl
Stephan Wolfram's Physics model is that the world is fundamentally computation, where the universe is like a Turing machine running all possible rules.
If you want to know more about why there is an incredible number of different chemical reactions that are possible, look into Wolfram's Physics and his book New Kind of Science. If you imagine the world as a Turing Machine, then it makes perfect sense why there are near infinite possible chemical reactions, only from only the 118 elements of the periodic table (who's to say 118 isn't just an arbitrary number of elements based on their stability? Perhaps there are also a near infinite possible atoms that just aren't stable)
It's no coincidence that biology is just one set of possible chemical reactions (molecular structures) to exist.
Look up reaction - diffusion model. There are some nice vids about it.
