You guys definitely give us a deeper dive into why the ball shapes the way it does. Compares all the balls in the line and how it falls in the rotation.
I’m getting this ball. Got it on preorder through Bowlersmart. Even though I’ll be having rotator cuff surgery on August 16, I’ll be back bowling in six months or so, and this one will get drilled at that time. Until then, I’ll be watching lots of videos and doing physical therapy.
I'm right handed. Tore up my left rotator cuff. Took me longer than 6 months. I was 57 at the time. Do your PT. It is painful, good luck to you. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. It hurts, but I have 85-90% of my range of motion, and pain free now, almost 3 years later. Hang in there!
Nobody covers cover strengths like you. Thank you as it seems to be one of the biggest factors in good pin carry and reaction. When you hit a polish ball w a fresh 2000 pad as you did, what would be the approximate # finish it becomes so it can be properly refreshed every 9-10 games? Like after 9-10 games since u hit it w the 2000, would u use a 2000 again? Or is it more like a 3000 finish since the 1st time u hit it w 2000 it was polished to start? Thanx for vids, NO ONE does it better, (thanx to Angel too)
Yeah it's more 3000ish, especially just doing it by hand. I'd just hit it with a pad again, because I'm really going for the result, I don't care what the actual surface is
Do you think the clone ball works better with a pin-up drilling or a pin down drilling I just got one last month on sale I haven't got a drilled yet I'm trying to figure out how I want to get a drill down my stroker type player older player in my 60s so I just want to have something that get down the lane get to the front to the meds and have a nice little response off at the end of the pattern so would maybe a 45 by 4 by 30 or something like that work or maybe putting the pain down underneath the use of the index or or ring finger
I love my Alert. I ran the Infinite as a ball just above the Alert. I've found that while quite a bit stronger than my Alert initially, after 50-60 games or so it's looking more and more like my Alert. Am I wrong in seeing the Clone in a similar way? That while obviously stronger than the Alert oob it will end up being pretty close. I guess my question ends up being is the Clone more of an Infinite replacement?
Oh no, Clone and Infinite are very different balls. The newly announced Virtual Energy Blackout will replace the Infinite, the Clone is a much different reaction from the Infinite.
Yeah definitely, but the Clone is a step down rather than up from the Infinite, or maybe like a half step down I guess. The Clone is earlier, and if you kept surface on it and let the Infinite lane shine, the Clone MIGHT act stronger, but just on paper, the Clone is the weaker ball.
yet another great review luke! i’m not sure if its just me but taking the polish off the clone has an interesting amount of similarity to a decently lane shined dna in terms of shot shape and their climbing motion the only think i cannot ascertain is how how that impacts their cover strength and versatility, what are your thoughts on their similarities/differences on the left?
Yeah I was actually prepping for more comparisons yesterday and the DNA is REALLY close to it. Clone rolls heavier, DNA is a little cleaner, rounder, and more continuous but they're super close considering the DNA cover is supposed to be a monster
I keep my alert at hand polish with CTD polish if I were to keep say this clone at 2/3 K finish would that be a big enough difference to have clone as 1 ball on lighter patterns?
The Clone isn't QUITE a 1 ball, but it's really close. You'd have to keep it at 2k max to make it a 1 ball, but it could fake it pretty well depending on the conditions.
Luke, since I have only one chance to get a ball, it’s come down from the Clone or the DNA, what is your opinion, 3 leagues and tournaments. 1 league is a scratch pro shot(different patterns every week. TY for your answer
How would the Clone compare to the Summit? I know it's Asym vs. Sym, but which would be better for the fresh? I currently have a Phaze 2 and Duo (plus spare ball)
How would you compare this to the exotic gem? My brother bought me the exotic gem as a present and I bought myself a clone. I haven’t drilled either yet so is there anyway I should lay them out to help make them different if they are too similar?
Hey Luke im wondering what you'll do when you run out of step 2 polish? I heard storm discontinued it and it seems you use it on all of your polished balls so what will you use when it's gone?
They have a couple new compounds they announced at Bowl Expo that are coming out, and as soon as they're available I'm going to try them out. For now, I'd go with Brunswick's Crown Compound.
I got both the Clone and Tour dynamic this week. Luke what would you say to putting 1000 2000 3000 on for suface ? Or should i just scuff the ball by hand with 2000?
You'll want to get deep to refresh the cover, just going by hand with 2k won't get rid of the gloss. And even the factory sanded stuff like the TDX gets contaminated by it, so I've found it best to go down to 1k on a resurfacing machine first and then finish it to wherever you want it from there.
I compared them in the video, I think they're a little too close to each other, I'd go with more separation. Probably would do the Tour Dynam-X with the Clone.
This seems to be a replacement for the OG UFO, im sure roto is working on perfecting a new UFO Alert replacement, there's no way they could just ignore the success and popularity of the Alert Edit, read the replies I was totally wrong lmao
Oh no, this cover is miles weaker than the OG, the Gem is more of an original UFO replacement. Roto also isn't working on a new Alert, according to their own marketing, this is supposed to be it, and an upgraded version at that.
@@cameronmcisaac1384 I bowled with it the other day for the first time let me say I struggled at first but when I got going I can understand why it's a replacement to it and I loved the ufo alert

I'm always so impressed by how crazy good Luke is throwing the ball lefty. Each video the swing looks more smooth

Sooo... my pro shop guy had one in the shop, so he sold it to me. I didn't like the polish. I sanded down to 1500 up to 3000. Love it!
Yeah and it's especially nasty on tough stuff.

I'd get the Clone, the DNA is great too but it's too much ball sometimes, the Clone is more usable more often.
Would you suggest having the Clone, Duo, and Dynam-X in a 3 ball arsenal?
You could, there's definitely separation between them all.
How would the Clone compare to the Summit? I know it's Asym vs. Sym, but which would be better for the fresh? I currently have a Phaze 2 and Duo (plus spare ball)
The Clone is a little weaker, but the ball shapes are really similar, Summit is just a little slower.
How would you compare this to the exotic gem? My brother bought me the exotic gem as a present and I bought myself a clone. I haven’t drilled either yet so is there anyway I should lay them out to help make them different if they are too similar?
Not very similar, Exotic has a much stronger cover on it, is earlier, quite a bit stronger, etc., so you don't have to worry here.

Do you think the ZGL would be a good step down from this or would the duo be better?
Duo is going to feel fairly close to it, I'd actually go with like a Tour Dynamx or Xponent or something.
And the ZGL is cleaner and sharper but almost a little stronger overall

Is the clone weaker or stronger than the Alpha Crux?
It rolls a bit earlier but overall it's weaker, Alpha has the stronger cover for sure.
