    I am a filipino working and living here in Thailand, I saw couple of RUclips videos having a resort and a care home been operating here in Thailand and so with in Singapore. This is the new trend of business to cater foreign people since we all know that we have a caring nurses and caregivers in Philippines. And also our Philippine immigration has a straightforward rules in terms of visas.

    Nice to know SE Asia is an option. Same service at same price offered near Lake Chápala, Mexico for those needing something geographically closer to the U.S. Seems new options are always opening up, which presumably is in response to the high demand.

    My Filipina wife and I are nurses in Florida. We plan to retire to Cebu in 10 years in our mid 50s. America assisted living can cost well over $5k a month and if you need skilled nursing it will cost much more.

    Additionally in the US there are also instances of elder abuse at assisted living facilities by the staff - sometimes physical, sometimes just disrespect. So it would be worth it just to have a kind staff taking care of your loved one.

    We are a Philippine-born couple living in an assisted living facility in Folsom, California. Our monthly cost, without meals, runs about $ 7,400. Unfortunately, we don't have the option of moving back to the Philippines since our children and grandchildren are all living or employed in the Sacramento and the Bay Areas. As a closely knit and extended family we have to retire close to them. Sadly, we no longer have any close relatives in the Philippines to think of moving back home. Hopefully, in the coming years the retiring Filipinos will opt to retire in their former home country since the diaspora of the professionals during the era of dictatorship is long past.

    Thank you Dan for making this video. This is an import aspect of expat life. As she said, even though we are having fun now, we will need assistance at some point. (That is, if we don't get sucked into the mother ship while standing on our feet.) Actually I have all my hopes pinned on the latter scenario.
    I think it will be a great service to your audience if you can make more videos on this topic. Perhaps show some other facilities in Philippines. I went to Kuching after watching one of your videos and I was told by the locals that you can get top notch care is Sarawak for about $2,500USD.
    I think there is another gentleman who was showing very nice, large, senior care facilities in Thailand. I don't remember the co$t.
    Having known Filipinos for a long time, knowing all the Filipina nurses in the US, and being able to receive care in English; I think Philippines is an ideal place for affordable serious care.

I know in Thailand there are a number of Assisted Living facilities, especially in the Chiang Mai area, including one ‘Care Resort’ which wins awards in London as being the best care center in the world.
    I stayed in one in California for several years due to recuperation and most of the best caregivers were Filipino, but the cost of US$6,000, is prohibitive for most.

    One of the main reasons why westerners have assisted-care facilities is because we can't afford to pay a nurse (or nurses) to stay at home to take care of us. However, in the Philippines it would cost only $15 - $20 a day to pay a nurse to attend to the needs of an elderly person in their own home. So, I'm not 100% convinced there is a big need for these facilities in the Philippines.

    • @VagabondAwake
      @VagabondAwake  24 дня назад +2

      Great point. But if your budget is already $1500 usd month and you add $600 a month for a licensed nurse, now you are at $2100 month, instead of this which is $1070 month. So you have choices now.

      True. I owned an assisted living facility with dimensia care. However, you can get to a point where it can be that you are better off in a facility with multiple nureses and staff managing things. Plus socialization and activities are very impotant and you won't get that as much in you own home eventually. What you say about hiring a personal nurse is my plan but I know if I live long enough or get Parkinsons like my mother did I will need more care than that.

      As a Canadian, it's so not true. My Grandpa lived to a 100 and had an amazing life and golfed well into his 90s in Vancouver BC. You are responsible for keeping yourself healthy no matter which country you're in. In the Philippines most people don't even get to be that old because they all die fairly young.

    • @marceybull
      @marceybull 24 дня назад +1

      Completely insensitive and un-empathetic observation to add to the conversation. I’m glad your grandfather lived a long and healthy life, but that’s not how it is for most people. I presume he came from a wealthier background with solid family involvement. My presumption is based on his long life and his health and the expensive habit of golf. And that he had someone to play golf with even in his most elderly years. That sounds like a nice combination, but that’s not how it is for most people… Cheers to your grandfather’s long healthy life, and may others have that as well in their various degrees.

    Comparing care in the Phils. to Vietnam, Cambodia or Thailand would be more

Maybe one day, I will find out this information and do a youtube video on it.

    I don't know about a US facility charging $20k a month. I do know a SNF in California providing 24/7 care is about $10k-$12k a month... which is a pretty high level of care. It is strange that most residents are male... in the US, its 95%+ female.

    • @reallifewithkids6913
      @reallifewithkids6913 23 дня назад

      Probably most of the residents are male because the clientele that walks in is from Western countries that moved to Phil. and are white (mostly) males with no local family but can afford these faciltiies. My mother in law was in a memory care (dementia) unit in NY and the cost was $12,000 a month about 5 years ago - her son was a heart surgeon and was footing most of the bill on behalf of all the other grown children.

      @@reallifewithkids6913 The rate I referenced is for a shared room. Do you know if your MIL was in a single or shared room? I think a single room ran about ~$15k list. So I'm guessing a single cost $13k-$16k today out of pocket, , depending on the quality of the facility.

      That is unlikely. As a professional RN and case manager, there is something behind the scenes you may not be aware of, such as, he is getting government assistance to cover his costs and also the possibility that it is only for rental and food and if he needs ANY nursing care assistance, the cost will skyrocket. US Nurses on average are paid $80,000 USD.
