Does this model have a built in compressor ? On my 4.2 i can record music with the "automatic" setting for recording level and it levels up / compresses the incoming signal. Is that possible with the 4S ? Thank you !
If you record onto a reel on an IV-S and then play it back on a Nagra 4.2 would it still come out in stereo or would it be mono ? As I know the 4.2 is mono Thanks
The 4.2 will do a kind of mix of L and R tracks which might not always been good. For instance if there are big phase differences between the track, the sound in mono (that way) will not be great. Normally you should record and playback with similar heads. One way to avoid the issue, is to record two identical tracks on the IV-S.
We've always considered this, but as the technology has changed a lot since the ones we made, we have to start all over again from scratch. This will be a huge development cost. But this is in our DNA and we always think of it... ;-)
@@NagraAudioChannel Seems to be simpler today. CAD, CNC, 3D Print in mechanic domain, Literally no-noise and dust cheap op-amps and microcontrollers make electronic part a piece of cake. Neither Kudelski nor Studer have such toys... they had "only" their genius minds :p Sometimes wondering what they are developing now, with unlimited time and budget.. ❤️

I strongly suggest not attempting to demagnetize the heads unless there is a known problem that is confirmed with a gauss meter. It is easy to unintentionally magnetize the heads while attempting to demagnetize them, so it is important to have a gauss meter to test for a magnetic field on a the head after going through the demagnetizing process.

Unfortunately, some of the words are not clearly enunciated by the speaker. Someone who learned English as a first language should have been considered. Similar problem with the camera work - underlit, unsteady handheld, and sometimes out of focus. A professional product deserves professional presentation. (Yes my kit included a 4.2L TC mod, Steellavox.SP, AMI, and Schoeps. Sennheiser and Neuman mics.)
I’m ready for a new production model IV-S. I think the market is ready too.

Hello Glen, sure you need to do it right but after a few very dynamic tape there is a big difference in the sound if you demagnetize the head.
