- Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley spoke on the second day of the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2018. He spoke about the three major judgments that the Supreme Court delivered recently on Sabrimala temple, adultery and Section 377. Talking about the economy, the Finance Minister said that nothing could be worse than 2013. He said that the sentiment about the Indian economy is not negative. Jaitley said that we can’t be the fastest growing economy for 4-5 years and still have a negative sentiment.

India is fortunate to have an intelligent man like Arun Jaitley in the cabinet. Take the example of Sabrimala temple, if the the same yardstick is applied to Christianity, is it not against women that Catholics do not permit a woman Pope or even women priests? Is Islam not discriminating against women when it allows polygamy, forces women to wear black robes and would not let them use public mosques or let women interpret Quran?
Everytime I watch this man speak I cant help myself being in awe of his grasp of almost everything under the sun.

Atal ji broght gdp from 4% to 8%.. Then manmohan took over broght it down to 4%.. Then modi again took it over to 8%. Howecer I feel, for our economic experts 4% is more than 8% then probably remaining indians should start their education from primary again.
FYI, the Modi govt did it by changing the formula of GDP and not reviving the economy. Such an incompetent Finance Minister we have.

Econmy is doing good in absolute no and also in relative terms... 8% + was the growth rate for last quarter and highest in world more than china.. Was there ever a time when india's gdp grown higher than china... Was there ever a time when firms like moodys rated india so high.. If currency is the only criteria for you then japan should have been poorer to india.
India's GDP growth is higher than China because the Chinese Yen was devalued, chinese steel industry took a hit and US trade war has worsened the situation. China is sitting on top of crisis. Most currencies like EU and GBP also took hit in 2015-17. They were going down because these countries largely depend on the foreign exports. China as you may know depends all the way on imports. On the Indian hand we don't necessarily depend on foreign exports. We have a large and demanding domestic market. Therefore despite the global economic events we kept growing at pace and comparatively higher than others. Due to our strong and profitable domestic market IMF has termed India 6th largest economy on the basis of performance in 2017.
Do not believe rating agencies. Learn about what they were rating US companies during IT rush and 2008 crisis.
Learn what they were rating IL & FS just before the crisis. Rating agencies are always paid to provide ratings worldwide.
hey didn't understand if China depends on imports as u said why would they have devalued there currency , its NOT suicidal for a country which actually depends on imports . USA putting tariffs on Chinese goods because of trade deficits between both countries and USA want to rope a trade deal with them and want to narrow trade deficit between them . If a country devalued there currency isn't its meaning it want to increase its exports .
What I meant was China depends all the way on imports by other countries like US. Their share of exports in GDP declined from 22.63% in 2014 to 18.54% in 2017. Need I remind you US faced worst economic crisis in 2008. Exports accounted 20.26% of GDP in 2009. China is in bad position without any crisis in 2017. So they devalued consistently to boost exports.

IN 377 verdict.... Judge said free speech only three times, that too by two judge, infact they want to say that it will have some effect on free speech not that it is against the free speech. They thrown some rays on it not light on this portion, you took particular word as essence on judgement. Why can't you read the Justice D.Y. Chandrachud's judgement ?

I find it so strange that someone like Mr P Chidambaram is considered such a great finance minister who is not an economist either like Jaitley, for declaring India's budget for more than a decade, is not interrogated so much just because he is an MBA from Harvard , when some of d biggest scams took place under his nose , when he was helm of power at d centre!
Finance Minstry has to be more Liberal, which actually is done by PMO, if it is coordinated effort I am Impressed, would like to see more involvement of PMO on Financial Policy Matters however.

Jaitley is a good spokesperson and expert...but he should not be finance minister. PM Modi works day and night and has been an asset. But people like Amit Shah and Jaitley bring him down. Obviously, Congress is a joke and Rahul/Sonia can never become PM. I still give my vote to BJP but they need changes.
