  • A prostate biopsy is something that few men look forward to.
But, it's important to stay informed and take responsibility for your own health.
There are a lot of myths around prostate biopsy. But the procedure has come a long way.
Rates of infection are also a concern.
In this video, Dr. Bevan-Thomas speaks to these issues and gives a better understanding of what to expect from a prostate biopsy.

my 50 yr old son was the less than one percent he just got home from nearly 2 weeks in hospital with Sepsis infection 24 hrs after his prostate biopsy & he did take antibotics before & after & he was in good health. He is lucky to be alive, I am so glad I took him to emergency room soon enough.

My two good friends had prostate biopsies. One out of two got sepsis. That’s 50%,, although one had 4 and the other had 3 biopsies. Why do they need so many biopsies? I was nearly pushed into biopsy last month. Thank God I researched and got myself out of the trap.

      Good for you👍👌
The medical system, is absolutely ridiculous.
Do your research, and I'm talking more than a few weeks. I've been researching this stuff for 6 months now.
Most prostate cancers, grows slow, if you have it at all.
      You have time...do your research

The best way to reduce infection is to have it through the perineum. Then they put you out and no pain. I would just get a 3T MRI to see if a biopsy is needed.

I am sure there are some good urologists, but as a class I do not trust them. They will exaggerate your condition in order to justify harmful, unnecessary procedures. They don't seem to care what they do to the patient's quality of life.

      Steve Kennedy
THank you. I’ve been wanting confirmation of my suspicions regarding superfluous procedures.
When I became resistant to many of the procedure, my urologist dumped me as a patient. Good riddance.

I totally agree with you. I do not trust them. I've done alot of research. No biopsies for me at this point. I'm 66, and my PSA is only 2.5. PSA density 56 cc. Which calculates.. PSA 2.5÷56 cc = 0.04
Which is considered low risk disease, if any.
Men need to do their research.
I've been researching this stuff intensely for 6 months now. It's alot to learn. If you don't, more than likely, you're going to be mislead, from these doctor's. Remember, it's all about the money. They could care less about your health. If they're not doing any procedures, they're not making any money.
Most guys need to lose weight, and change their damn diet. Stop the processed foods, seed oils, sodas loaded with high fructose corn syrup etc.
Exercise, and focus more on a plant based diet. Get rid of most of the meat and dairy.
High in IGF-1, which feeds cancer, if you have it.
      Again, do your research!!👍👌

Great stuff Dr. Thomas. I'm assuming the antibiotic they gave me through the IV was pretty powerful along with taking Cipro the day of and a few days after. This is the 3rd biopsy for me. Pretty uneventful procedure especially being completely under and asleep the entire time. Not sure why all patients aren't given the option to be put under for the procedure. Hope to see some follow up videos from you when you have time. Thanks again.

So you were knocked out? Did you need a catheter because they put you out? My doctor is not using anesthesia

    (1) Almost nobody remembers the name every antibiotic they were ever given. “Have you ever taken Rotyourassitaine?”. Oh yes, once on February 19th 1983 in Dr. Goat’s office for an infected toenail. (2) Call your urologist right away if, after the biopsy, you begin to experience chills or fever - The Urology practice where my urologist works is a zoo. The office is so f**ed up that I have to show up in the office in person just to get an appointment, then I have wait at least a month to see the doctor. I would be dead of sepsis before the imbeciles ever tried to look me up in their system.

I am an Old Timer! My thought it is all or mostly B/S for me. Remember if they are not slicing or dicing they are making money. MRI says everything looks OK but we need to take samples???? Just about Money?
There are certain things you need to do or not do if your going for a PSA test. I will give you one example. No sex for so many days before your test and there are other issues. I am not a doctor & not giving any advice. But I would make sure you get all the facts. My PSA #'s have always been high since my thirties.
I'm done, but I question that entire medical way they approach this issue. Be careful. The end.

An mri is far more accurate than a biopsy

    • @scottwillis5434

An MRI cannot inspect individual cells to tell whether they are cancerous; the resolution is not within orders of magnitude.
What an MRI DOES do, is locate where the biopsy should be done, so they are sampling the abnormal cells instead of healthy tissue, and don't miss sampling the problem area.
