Emily got the best taste among the guests. Very based for having Fruits Basket and Skip n Loafer in your 3x3. I can see her being a fan of A Sign of Affection too.
It's so good to see Kaguya sama in 3x3. Probably the best modern High school romance. The characters are really fleshed out and the romance is built up so much that you can't help but praise the staff behind this. And the three seasons+ movie is only half of the story. Need season 4 soon.

Sometimes it frustates me when the bois underestimate shojo/josei animes. Yes there are some silly and cute romance but tend to over generalize the genre
I don't think they mean harm by it or underestimate it, it might just not be in their current interest to actively follow the anime/manga. There's also the issue of pacing for a lot of people because they tend to go quite slow. Garnt did end up really liking skip and loafer tho which is cool. I'm a shoujo fan as well but I can understand that it can be difficult to get into one because even I have problems starting one sometimes.

Code Geass' characters were also designed by CLAMP. Suzaku kinda looks like Syaoran from CCS and Lelouch looks like Kamui Shiro from X. I find Code Geass also visually aesthetic. The CG waifus are also very attractive especially C.C.
Not realising that Li is like the 3rd most common chinese surname lol. They could've easily played it off as "We have the same surname. It's fate." Or something like that.
The contrast of Emily and Charlie. Charlie is so stereotypical Guy. And Emily is stereotypical Girl It’s kinda great Also have to point out Fruits basket is not a Romance, it’s more a drama. The romance come more into play at the end
"There's always that one guy who recommends a romance anime to watch." Yeah for me, that one guy recommended Ninja Scroll and Urotsukidoji. I'd only been watching DBZ and Ranma 1/2 before that lol
So, I'm from Quebec and we did have some anime's get dubbed in quebecois french right, but also, back in the 90s through 2000s in France, they had a boom where they bought an insane amount of shows because they thought anime was for children. It then led to many well known shows to be cut to fit the kids that watch tv, for exemple City Hunter was got an insne amount of time cut and the dub ended up being quite hilarious in the way it made no sense. As for Sakura Cardcaptor, they changed the opening for the first seasons and they also renamed every character except for Sakura. Tomoyo was Tiphany, Sakura's brother because Thomas, his best friend changed to Mathieu. Kerobero stayed Kerobero surprisingly enough, though their last name was changed to Gaulthier instead ! All her classmates were also giving very funny french names that has people laughing today as well. Though, to this day the french dub of Sakura stays one of the most loved french dub ive ever heard. I prefer to listen to it in french as it feels so much more natural withing the characters.
I really do not understand the bois' reluctance to ever talk in-depth about Fruits Basket. It gets really frustrating after a while. Also, I cannot believe Garnt brought up Cardcaptors the Dub. I never thought I would hear that atrocity being spoken of again today. 😁
@@Ash_Wen-li That's possible. But I'm sure they could at least bring up the 2001 anime or something. I'm sure one of them has seen it. Then again, maybe I'm just jealous because an anime I care about doesn't get as much as attention as others.
What's funny was that the Cardcaptors dub shown in USA was EVEN MORE edited than the edited version that Nelvana made. I guess I got lucky because here in Australia, they aired the less edited version of Cardcaptors, which had the majority of the episodes and an English cover of Catch You Catch Me for the opening.
@wchan39 A part of me does wonder if I am a bit too harsh on Cardcaptors. I've only watched the Japanese dub fully. The biggest problem is that the vibe of each version felt different and I just cannot get pass that. I'm sure if someone was only exposed to the dub or if it is their introduction to it, they may have a different opinion on this. Also, an English version of Catch You Catch Me? Nice. That's way better than the Dub opening. I will at least confidently say that it is undoubtedly inferior. 😁
Same here! Fruits Basket is in my top 10 anime of all time. But I just think they just didn't watch it, which is sad cuz Fruits Basket is actually goated.
I don't really get why they were clowning on the EN names for Cardcaptor Sakura. If you were watching it at the time, it totally made sense, in the context of that era. And by all accounts, it didn't negatively impact CCS popularity with the burgeoning female anime demographic that they were trying to capture. CCS was wildly popular for a girl's children anime in the west because it worked out. It was a great gateway, despite the names. They forget the nuance of history, particularly with shoujo animes.
@@CrimsonCharanI personally disagree! There’s so much I want to talk about when it comes to Fruits Basket. I plan on making a video essay for my English course 😂
I just realized that was Emily in the thumbnail. I thought it was some streamer i didn’t know, then realized it’s the lady who draws on RUclips. She looks extremely different from her usual appearances.
This is a list of stuff on my read/watch list that I have not gotten to yet. I still need to see Cardcaptor Sakura and Tokyo Mew Mew, I have the first volume of Fruits Basket, and need to read Skip and Loafer and Ore Monogatari. I actually started watching Skip and Loafer, then I was like, this should be read instead of watched, but I have not started yet.
I read Sailor Moon & Cardcaptor Sakura manga... the anime dub (when I grew up) for both removed all gay relationships as well as teacher/student & adult/child relationships... basically anything considered taboo by censorship. As much as I love the artstyle of CLAMP, they were pushing boundaries with large age gap relationships... adults dating primary school kids was always a little gross tbh. Glad everything was over my head as a child...
I haven't seen too many shoujo (or josei) anime. Any recommendations from shoujo (and josei) fans? For reference I've seen: Rose of Versailles, Nana, Natsume's Book of Friends, Akatsuki no Yona, Banana Fish, Chihayafuru, Fruits Basket, Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu, Oniisama e..., Princess Tutu, Utena and a few others
I read and enjoyed Boys Over Flowers, but it is pretty much the originator of cliches like dickhead love interest, crazy, rich mom of the boyfriend who doesn't like the "peasant" MC. It's basically a well written soap opera with interesting characters in crazy scenarios. Also while not strictly Shojo, there's a lot of good magical girl shows that are aimed toward young girls like Cardcaptor Sakura or PreCure, but they are more focused on middle school girls that high school or adult aged women. And I'm not talking about Seinen magical girls that are either heavy in fan service or super dark. Also apparently there's quite a bit of Shojo horror from the 70s and 80s, but I'm not really familiar with them, so I can't speak on it. Also most of the stuff in this 3x3 are apparently very good.
Ok, let's go: Noir, Moribito: guardian of the spirit(maybe not an exact fit but I still consider it aimed at female audience), the apothecary diaries, gunslinger girls, the beauty blogger, Cinderella chef, my happy marriage, The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen: From Villainess to Savior (or other types of isekai with reincarnation in an otome game or book, they usually avoid standard romance like a plague), Ascendance of a Bookworm, Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid...I think it's a good start. I don't like romance forward anime but I think I put here a descent variety of both new and old shows that are mostly aimed as younger women.
