most of those roads in Leh ladakh area are built for Indian Army by Border Roads Organisation(B.R.O), so It's the civilians who are using Indian army's infrastructure not the other way around.

3:25. The clouds around the mountains look so low to the ground. Ive seen it on TV many times but can't wait to experience it in real life. Great job, keep up the cool VIDS Karl !
Nice vlog Karl, sorry for your gf, must be horrible to have that sickness. I personally don't have it but heard about from friends. Take care of here, She can enjoy the rest of the trip. See you next time!
Sorry to hear about your experience and hope your GF is doing much better by now! At the end it's part of that wonderful adventure. When I took the Manali - Leh highway last year (by minibus) I found beneficial to stay light when it came to food. I had only brought with me dry food (crackers) and plenty of water, and when stopping at food stalls I'd only have ginger tea and light food. Some people on the bus had Amrutdhara oil to inhale which proved to provide great relief. Obviously I recommend to avoid running (or even just walking) around while taking breaks on the road and generally try and stay as calm and relaxed as possible. I think this was very beneficial and at the end I didn't really suffer at all (I should also mention that I had spent the previous week in Manali and did hike a bit, obviously this helped acclimatize). And as soon as I made it to Leh I spent one full day in bed just chilling, drinking ginger tea and eating the delicious omelettes and toasted bread (with apricot jam!) prepared by my hosts :) Anyways, I'm now reliving my adventure through your videos - excited to see what's next! :)
Yes there's fever too if there's fluid in your lungs (pulmonary edema) . It's because of release of inflammatory mediators .I'm a final year medical student and an aspiring army doctor . They give leh as our first posting . Hope to see you on your revisit there .
Hi Karl, same thing happened with my mum. She got really sick, puked multiple times and just got real tired. She had a good sleep for 5 hours and then she became alright. Acclimatising is really important and not a joke!!
headaches are a good marker to know not to get higher. if you experience headaches and nausea it's a good sign to turn back or at least not get higher up. altitude sickness needs to be taken serious. but i guess you know that :)
My dad organizes a Thai motorcycle tour to Ladakh and I recommend that you rest for a day after arriving. Try to get your body used to the environment and don't forget to buy oxygen if you need to!
i've trekked in the himalayas before up to everest base camp/gokyo ri and as a rule of thumb, do not ascend more than 300m in elevation per day. if you do ascend more than 300m in a day, try to sleep at an elevation that is lower than the highest elevation you achieved in that day. if you are going above 3000m (high altitude) in elevation, do not ascend more than 250m per day. if you are experiencing symptoms of altitude sickness, do not ascend further and try to descend to a lower altitude to spend the night. if that's not possible, then stay at that altitude and stay well hydrated with enough glucose. Do not ascend if the person is still experiencing sickness for more than 2 days as it can start to become lethal. Do not ignore the symptoms, especially when emergency routes and medical aid is not readily accessible. Have fun and stay safe on the road!
Wow! Lovely to ur videos I am Indian too.. it's great that ur exploring India making videos and also guiding them about the costs of auto and stuff👍🏻👍🏻watched a single video of urs and got addicted now gng through all of ur videos 😍
Hello everyone, sound more like some form of mountain sickness. Fever is really not a symptom of Altitude Sickness. Appears she may need some real medical attention. Would be best to return to a much lower altitude for several days just to be safe. Pushing our limits with ones self is great and you have done this before. But it's new for her and it's never worth risking ones life. If she has any type of unknown heart condition this could kill her.
Hi Karl liked your volgs its beautiful and simple wish that your GF gets ok btw one thing i understood that you are hooked with parathas for life keep vlogging and wish you the best if everyone could have been like you world could have been a much better place but after seeing you i still hope there is a chance for this world tk care
Wow, you guys went double the high altitude that we have here, no wonder Manisha Ji got sick, anyways thanks for the tipon preventing high altitude sickness, why, on my bucket list was hiking the Ixtaccihuatl(White Sleeping Woman)and now it would be so COOL to visit India's Himalayan regions! :)
That's the first bell icon that I have hit on you tube..!! You made me do it! Your deep love and understanding of India is surprising and really admirable. The genuineness is simply palpable. Aap pichle janm me Hindustani rhe honge zarur. The idea of travelling undivided India ...that's something mate! You must be an Indian in your previous birth .All the best Karl for your future endeavours. Aapki Hindi kamaal hai ! And you sound very sweet speaking it.
Karl Rock mate, one thing I would like to suggest is overnight or 2-3 day stay with a home stay family (accommodation and food) in turtuk is a must do if you are in leh for a while. Water supply from a glacier, organic veges and fruits (amazing taste) and yak meat all are once in a life experience in a border town that was under Pakistan army pre 1971
There is an herb you can take which increases oxygen absorption, it’s very helpful in altitude sickness. It is called dang shen (codonopsis pilosula) dosage is 2 grams taken 3-5 times daily as needed. It has a pleasant taste. I would never be caught in the mountains without it.
Placebo effect at best. There is no scientific literature that supports any such claims - in fact all the research suggest it has absolutely no effect. If it truly did increase oxygen absorption, every athlete in the world would consume it.
Hi Karl as you are in Leh Ladakh region we would like to see Ice Stupa structures if you could shoot. its an amazing Award winning concept followed in region by Sonam Wangchuk
*Lots of hot lemon water, never go up until acclimatisation done* Some cases come down if not in control in a day, 20 yrs of mountain hiking told me, love it, it will love you back (never had AAS in 20K+ ft till date) *Enjoy, Love ... Believe, it will give you back*
I went to 18000 feet to kupup village , just before zulluk. That was the only time i got altitude sickness, trust me it’s not good and you feel as if you cannot get through because you are so high up.
*Dear Alex, pls take good care of her, otherwise your Indian BILs (subscriber / brother in laws) will be angry with you* *BTW why BARALACHA & not Sarchu? Beautiful place & very good for acclimatisation, probably time planning was required* *Love & Take care*
You got one part wrong that half of army is placed over there . Which is not correct because it is indian armed forces and para military forces are placed there

Yes, and the Army is extremely helpful - from personal experience. Went upto 19,300 ft (highest motorable point), without oxygen and no sickness.

Go to nearest army medical centre and request for oxygen or lose altitude. If oxygen level drip in blood, one develops high altitude sickness.
