  • We finally upgraded our system for pulling logs out of the woods! We were using a boom pole, but we now have a winch system. James put a 3 point attachment on the tractor, mounted the winch, and wired it up as a quick disconnect. It works flawlessly and is very easy/quick to set up. All products were purchased off Amazon and have been performing well with very heavy large oak logs. Happy sawing!

Just a comment, but I'd weld (if you weld) a heavy D ring on the mount. Once you get a log winched in, attach the choker or chain directly to the mount and relieve the winch of the load. Your winch and winch line will last WAY longer.

That’s a great idea. I will be doing that.

Thanks for the video. I only stayed to 1:55 because you answered all my questions. Only thing I did not see was an inline fuse? It might be in the video? Anyway I loved that you wife gave you props, that always feels good when you wife supports you and recognizes the things you do. Cheers to you.

Can this setup be used to pull saplings the smaller trees fromt he ground? You ahve a lot of small trees like I do and I found your video looking for a way to hook a winch to my tractor for yanking them out. I was thinking maybe adding some sort of bracing that can dig intot he ground so the tractor doesn't move.

I would say this would rip a small sapling out. Next time I hook it up to tractor I’ll try it out!

On addition that wold reduce stress on the tractor while winching is an anchor of some sort.
If I built one, I would start with a a market place grader blade, buy a receiver hitch tube and weld to the blade frame. Add in a D ring or 2 for dragging logs or build an arch and make a second trip. But great ideal on the winch build.

Great idea. I just got a rusty grade blade as a bonus with a discer I got at auction. I'm trying to unseize it but even if I can't your idea will save me some money.

Excellent system. Maybe a short snubber from frame anchor point to the chain hook on the log to take out any jerking motion on the winch hub while towing. Winches can suffer damage if towed for long periods on the hub alone. Great vlog once again.

I second this! a few grab hooks welded to the hitch frame will let you drop the hitch low, chain up a few logs you have pulled in, hoist them with the 3 point and keep from smashing the bearings / bushings in that winch. I replaced multiple bushings inside a Warn ATV winch after abusing it as a drag point instead of using chains. It's not a fun job, assuming you can get the parts...

i have a similar set up but the winch is on my trailer (hitch area), , eventually your gonna burnt out your winch, you could try to pulling out the log to the road with a different cable with pulleys using your tractor and using your winch to lift it up to add a chain afterwards to hold it up,,,. a lot faster and will save your winch.

    Thanks for all the details.
