  • Rania Khalek sat down with Aleida Guevara, the daughter of Ernesto “Che” Guevara, in Havana, Cuba. They discussed Che’s legacy, his impact on her decision to become a doctor, her earliest memories about his personality in the home, how people treated her after his death, her time serving in Cuba’s revolutionary medical missions in Nicaragua, Venezuela and Angola, how the US blockade harms Cuba’s socialist healthcare system, and more.

    At Breakthrough News we believe in the power of independent media. Five mega-corporations dominate the media landscape - controlling 90% of what we read, watch and listen to. They control the news cycle, to which social media and even most “alternative” media is forced to respond. We are breaking through that cycle.
    We tell the untold stories of resistance from poor and working-class communities - because out of these stories we will construct a different narrative of the world, as it is and in real time.
    People’s movements in every corner of the globe are changing history and shifting consciousness. But these movements barely receive any coverage from the corporate media. They need visibility. They need amplification. They need a media arm to break through.

    I´m so proud of being cuban. Also, Aleida, it´s worth noticing that many of the self-employed workers helped a lot in the harder months of the pandemic last year by bringing food for free to the people that were Isolated in their houses. Also, the ones that had means of transportation, offered them to the hospitals and clinics to use them as ambulances because of the increased number of covid-19 cases. Which shows that it is true that our Educational system has taught us to help each other and be supportive with the ones in need.

      She is an Amazing woman. The US talks of crime against humanity but the blockade of Cuba for sixty years is more than a crime. There are those Cubans like Marco Rubio who just think of the little tummies. What a shame. Long live Che! Long live Castro! She made me cry really.

      @@dkblack1289 You better change your medications bc there’s no blockade against Cuba, only an embargo that doesn’t include food or medications; even A. Blinken posted this fact recently. Now, the real criminals are those siding with a government filled of big bellies leader that feed their population with rotten meat and plain carcasses. I stood in line for bread and potatoes for many hours to ti feed my family just bc some leader get special cuotas and don’t care if they people eat or not as long as they can virtue signal and gaslight an entire population, #socialismo es hambre #socialismoesmiseria

I have met here and she signed my copy of the diary of Che in Bolivia. The copy of which she wrote the preface. An outstanding doctor, intellectual and communist. What a wonderful interview! I felt like I was right there with you and Dr. Guevara! The person with the camera did a fantastic job, the shots of Dr. Guevara with the bust of Che in the background really added to the video! I have three books of Che's on my bookshelf and I go back to them often. Che knew the importance of education and he was a brilliant economist! I have to say I shed tears with Dr. Guevara during the interview, and my heart goes out to all the Cuba people that are fighting the good fight under this terrible blockade. I am 68 years old and have a degree in history and political science, and the U.S. is starting to crumble, both at home and abroad, under the weight of its lies and greed. The 2024 election here is going to be bloody and the U.S. will suffer for the crimes they commit around the world. I hope Russia, China, and Iran can send more aid to Cuba. Thank you Rania! Viva Che!

      I understand why you are not convinced that socialism can work without an element of highly regulated capitalism . You stated correctly , it's because you are brought up in a capitalist country and you have a capitalist mindset . I lived half of my life in a country which had self-governing socialism and we the people had very good life . Then imperialist destroyed my country . Now , I live in North America and I can compare socialism with capitalism . I lived more human life in socialism . Materially we had less but otherwise we were richer . The guiding idea in socialism is : People above the profit . In capitalism : Profit above the people .

But Yugoslavia actually had a larger volume retail store years than any one in the U.S. And Tito took out Stalin with poison where U.S. never could poison Castro. @timothygrayson - Well, please do not assume that Che Guevara and his family were or are "religious" because Che was an atheist.

    • @timothygrayson
      @timothygrayson 6 месяцев назад

      @robertpolanco1973 What defines a Christian? Certainly a church or financial enterprise. My parents were atheists but I consider myself Christian based upon not the Bible but an understanding of ethics combined with morality. A right does not justify abuse of power.

      @@timothygrayson Personally, I really DO NOT think your comment has any sort of relevance to what revolutionaries like Che Guevara were about anyway! Furthermore, I really DO NOT CARE much about whatever constitutes your personal religious faith in any way because I regard religion as a form of mental illness!

      He was Argentinian. Travelled extensively throughout Latin America. Met Fidel Castro in Mexico City and joined the fight for Cuban independence. Subsequent actions led him to became the anti-Imperialist icon.

    El Che en la hora de Cuba
    Para seguirte, Che, somos mayoría. En días en que el trabajo y la virtud son escudo ante el dolor y la infamia, llegas tú de pie, aportando, construyendo, levantando, junto a los que fundan, los techos y el porvenir A 55 años de procurar tu muerte, que no logran consumar, que es más vida mientras peor anda el mundo, te sales de los tantos versos en que te has erigido, por inspiración inapagable de los bardos. Te escapas de las canciones, que son tantas y tan hondas; y pasas, arremolinado, al doblar de sus acordes. Tus ojos atentos no quieren el descanso. Te niegas a las quietudes incluso cuando, firme, te sostiene la Historia. De la escultura te mueves, abandonas la piel del metal, del mármol, de la piedra. No eres la imagen atrapada y fija. Es eterno tu bregar. No hay modo de evadir tu agitada estampida. Los cuadros donde está tu rostro, esos que acompañan un aula, un centro laboral, y hasta alguna casa, perciben que has salido, que sabes lo tanto que hay que hacer. Hoy no te quedas en centros y organizaciones que resguardan tu ejemplo inextinguible. Ya agitas el paso desde los libros infinitos que recogen tu vida y tu obra de brillante economista. Sin jamás abandonar(la), te nos bajas de la Plaza. Lo alcanzas todo y llevas prisa. Colmada de proyectos, tu isla patria afronta, a lo David, duras batallas y resiste brutales embestidas. Con ella vas, Quijote de honesta compostura. Sin jamás abandonar, se te ve avanzando junto al pueblo, tu estado natural, donde mejor respiras. No todos pueden verte, ya se sabe, tampoco comprender que tú, «que te quedabas ya para semilla de cosas y de años» estarías «donde nunca jamás se lo imaginan». Para seguirte, Che, somos mayoría. En días en que el trabajo y la virtud son escudo ante el dolor y la infamia, llegas tú de pie, aportando, construyendo, levantando, junto a los que fundan, los techos y el porvenir.
