  • REKM’s Roy Elghanayan, “The Bruce Lee of Krav Maga” former Israeli Special Forces Instructor and the only person to be twice named Israeli Krav Maga National Champion, is recognized worldwide as an expert in the Israeli Krav Maga martial art. In this Puncher exclusive interview, he introduces you to the basics of training, fighting and survival as taught at Roy Elghanayan Krav Maga, a self-defense school offering Krav Maga classes for adults & children, plus fight choreography.
"The word “Krav” in Hebrew means combat, fight. “Maga” means contact. Krav Maga is very practical. It’s all about striking to the weak spots of the body. Eye gouging, punching the nose, going for the chin, the throat, kicking the groin, all these weak spots. The objective is to neutralize the threat as quickly and as efficiently as possible. That’s the goal. That’s what Krav Maga is." - Roy Elghanayan

@@stevenwilson5737 I think as age gets upon us, we pair the book down to the bare essentials. I'm now 65 years old and overcame many medical issues. Open heartsurgery, colon cancer, and stage 3 kidney disease fighting currently. Although I gained weight, a person never forgets techniques that are muscle memory. In my prime I got to 4th Dan in Isshinyu Karate. The old school stuff where you conditioned your shins as in Muy Thai, forearms, stomach and thighs for kicks and punches. I added American Kenpo, as well as wing Chun with some Krav Maga i had learned. All in all I try to avoid confrontations, even when i was in my prime. When i was forced to use it, it was to protect an asset, client, or protect a victim being attacked near me. In all situations, it did it automatically and there were many times I had to reconstruct what happened. The Japanese called it Musin....No mind....which is what we strive for.
My.last class teaching was in 2010. I had one student who begged me for almost a year to come back to PA and teach him after inhad suffered a mini stroke due to extreme job stress in Cleveland Ohio guarding a vice president and a president of a major bank.
When I went back to PA to teach this person, after seeing Krav Maga in depth, I discovered what i consider the missing link i had been looking for. And that was one technique could be used many times over in different situations.
The person i taught for 3 months straight non stop for 6 to 8 hours a day, got my hybrid training ideas. They worked. So at the end of my teaching career, thanks to what I saw in Krav Maga, as well as an older system of Israeli fighting I applied those principals in today's culture.
For me I'm satisfied and I'm living my last years hopefully in peace. But if civil war comes to.our soil again, as a veteran of the US Army, THIS WILL DEFEND, so help me God.
Being old just means you cut through the crap and end it fast.
Rule number 1, there are no rules
Rule number 2, forget rule number one.

If you are going to train the average person to defend themselves against "real" threats e.g. in the streets. Why can't we see footage of your students doing bareknuckle punching? What's with the gloves? Even if they were beginners, they have to train their knuckles and wrists to receive pressure.

You definitely want to have a combo of both bare knuckle and gloved striking training. It’s really easy to overtrain bars knuckle and if you’re training for self defense you don’t need knuckles made of steel. You just need to be able to end the confrontation and escape
