I think there is misconception and miscommunication for young players in the NBA. When they first make the league, they typically on the bench and feel they need to average to get more playing time. So once they get on the court and play garbage minutes when their team is getting blown out, they just shoot like there is no tomorrow. I honestly think it takes luck to make it in the NBA. Take Jeremy Lin for example or even a guy like Steve Nash. They both needed an opportunity to shine. 5-10 minutes a game wasn't going to make much difference. They needed to start, consistently. Typically its the 6'7 and up players that get minutes because they aren't such a risk defensively. The guys 6'4 and below have to get lucky. You either have to be extremely talented like Curry to get minutes early in your career, or the right height and size. Even if your last name is James, you be getting sent down to the G-League eventually.
Most NBA players don’t do extra work Everyday. Kobe and Gil Arenas both said it. U think most players go hard to keep their status. Most only play and practice when they are required.
