Fun fact. In 1982, just before that wash at 2:45, the Cairns Regional Electricity Board (CREB) had an old WW1 tank parked there to be used for emergency maintenance in the wet season. I walked the track a few times.
8:40 I'm not sure if it was Noah Creek, or Emmagen, but also back in the early 80s, there was a flying fox strung across the creek just downstream from the track. It hung about 20 metres above the crossing.
13:00 Locals often use the CREB to go south if they live close and have a 4WD. You'd be surprised at how many people live up that way, between Gold Hill and China Camp. It's also a sneaky way to avoid the local Wujal cops if you're carrying 'contraband'...and avoid the ferry fees and sometimes random car checks that are carried out along the Cape Trib road during the dry season.
Walking those hills in that red dirt when it was wet was a nightmare. Forget about shoes or thongs. I walked it barefoot. At the end of the wet season and in the middle of the dry season. Crazily different experiences.
35:50 I have never gone to Roaring Meg. The old ladies warn the young men that it's not their place and the spirits will make them slip and fall to their deaths.
The on again, off again showery weather since the last post has hampered the repairs of the southern CREB track, with the machines only just reaching the half way point, it is slow going because of the weather and severity of the damage, only way through is on foot. Unconfirmed reports are that council has a contract organised for supply of materials and machinery to fix the severely washed out section of the track along the Daintree River, this will be a major job, so do not expect it to be open this year. All other roads and tracks in the area that council maintains have been roughly repaired and open to traffic (see Douglas Shire updates), this includes the bloomfield road, north CREB, ZigZag, Meg Falls and 10 Mile. Works will be still ongoing, and next wet season will only bring more closures and works, with many landslide repairs, washouts, and fill in creek crossings only temporary.
@@STALKERS4WD no, the priority is the Bloomfield track which will open at the end of June...then its on with the rest. I was up there surveying this week..
@mattblom4196 come the 22nd the Bloomfield will be open all the way through. 95% of the track is fine for 4wd only at this point. there are some spots that are quite tight and I could get our 20ft van through. but at the moment I think an off road camper would be the biggest realistically for a few months... yes you can get through to the lions den .
Do you guys want a long long form video of this track. There's about 3.5hrs of vid here for those who REALLY want to see it?
That’d be great! How long was the full drive end to end in those conditions?
@@charlieloughlin 1.5 days with camping over night.

Great swimming spots near the car park.

Yeah well the only death that I know of was a young lady...
@STALKERS4WD There's been at least three since 2000.
@BradGryphonn yeah well you can clearly see the rock would be slippery. So if you are stupid enough
@STALKERS4WD True that.
Looks like heaps of fun, my son would love that!
HEAPS of fun

CREB track is open, November 2024. It's a good drive through beautiful country. Praise to the roadwork crew, mammoth repair job been done.
Yeah they surprised me with how quickly they did it. Even they said it would be closed for another year.
That looks really cool, would be fun
It is.
Hopefully it’s more of a challenge when it opens and not just a dirt road
Try driving it when it's raining. Muddies won't even hold you on the track.
CREB will eventually be back, completely changed but it will be back again
Eventually but from reports it could be years...

Why would you cockheads run this trail in a cyclone and fuck it up
For one this is in June 2023. The Cyclone was Dec 2024. Please learn to read. Also there's no one driving that track in a Cyclone lmao
I mean DEC 2023
