I read that Emerson had to play it in a few different keys, to accommodate for Greg’s changing voice! Finally with the Keith Emerson Band he returned to the original key.
welcome back my friends to the show that never ends, we're so glad you could attend, come inside, come inside. There behind the glass lies a real blade of grass, be careful as you pass. Move along, move along.
Excellent transcription and performance of this clearly complex and popular composition. Also nice manipulation of the multi-layered Nord programming. You should have far more visibility/subs for this type of content alone.
Awesome, you got some skill!! Played in a transposed key if I’m not wrong. I guess original is Eb or Ab which is a bit more difficult for the moog passages. Emerson was a true wizard.
Yes, we have pull it down to help the singer. The original I think is in Ab. But in the late days also EL&P used to play this song transposed. Thank you for your comments.
@everyonelovespotatoes7242 I think it's because it was easier for you. Thanks ,I have to do this and I learned in the correct key. I will definitely relearn in this easier key and just hit the transpose button. 😂😂
@@everyonelovespotatoes7242 i always wondered why bands transpose songs when playing live! are there keyboards that let you transpose it without changing which keys you're pressing? i assume that'd be super useful haha
@@jumbledfox2098 Yes They are (actually I think that all the keyboards have that feature). But is not a good practice to play the keys while hearing a different note. However it happened that after weeks of practice with the band, the singer asks to change the tone. At that point to learn it almost fron scratch it make me crazy. So in those cases I use the transpose button! 😅
@@obifachinabi ah, that seems rather useful! i never considered that hearing different keys to the ones your playing could be problematic, but now that i think about it it definitely seems like something that could slip you up!
Ha just came across this and I never knew and never paid attention to see any transposed performance by Emo (assuming any are out there to see on YT). The lead does go under the fingers easier a half step down btw.
Could you do a favor for those of us that don't have a nord to send patch files for. Can you speak to What are the organ settings you're using (apart from the drawbars which we can see you manipulate) and could you tell the patch names or if you built them from scratch, describe the foundational waveforms, filters, etc. That would be a big help to many people, I think.
Yes, you are right! The original was Ab... I've move it down to help the singer. But there is a late video that shows ELP playing it in G. Anyway, good catch :)
@@everyonelovespotatoes7242 Do you mean that when they reformed in 1992 they lowered it to G...? I'd have thought it would have been in F, as that's the key they lowered both Part1 and also 3rd Impression to earlier...!
@@noddyspuncture I seem to remember reading somewhere (perhaps his autobiography) that Keith was pissed that he had to transpose it down when they went on tour because it was hard for Gregg to sing in that Ab every night.
Yes, you are right. We decided to move it down to help the singer reaching the high notes. Hopefully soon we will share the version played live at the rehearsal.
It's very cool, and your playing is excellent. One tiny detail: with the keyboard being lowered a half step without lowering the pitch of the song itself, I am unable to follow it, because I have perfect pitch and the song is coming out of the speaker in Ab but I'm watching you play it in G! What I mean is if I tried to play it, my mind will only let my hands play it in Ab, unless the actual pitch (sound) was also lowered to the key of G. It's awesome that you can play it on G key signature piano keys without having to hear the actual corresponding pitches.
Yes, I've lowered also the pitch of the original Voice & bass track. I've learned it in G to help out our singer on the high notes. Thank you for your comments!
@@markrae1317 I have "perfect" pitch myself, but I got inured to half-step downs because of "authentic" [in a pig's eye] Bach performances. I know they are there, they annoy me, but I've learned to "deal" with them mentally. The very first time I heard the Bach Brandenburg 5th in Baroque pitch, I *literally* didn't recognize the piece! (Wouldn't happen now, but I still avoid "authentic" performance when I can.) Also, many rock bands tune down half a step live to make sure the singer can keep hitting the highest notes.
I was really moved. It's just amazing. I'm amazed at how well-crafted the copy was.
Never did I imagine that ANYONE could replicate Keith Emerson, let alone transcribe it. Bravo, sir.
Thank you!
Keith Emerson was a genius ! His music is eternal !

Excellent playing.
Thank you.

Yes, it was because the singer was more comfortable lowering the song tone. (you can hear the group playing it in a video )
Brilliant !
Thanks!
Good job

Wow, outstanding. Any chance I could get the Nord patches and any samples associated with this? Great Stuff
Sure! I can send you the NORD file with the sound I've used for the movie. Give me an e-mail address and I'll shoot you the file.

Transpose your keyboard also to the pitch on the video and you can learn the piece.

how/where did you get Greg Lake's isolated vocal??

How did you come up with the key you play this is???
I've moved it down to help the singer.
I thought it was played in A-flat, non G.
