This is some of the best short game instruction I've ever seen. Simple, basic, but so applicable.

Awsome Matt great stuff , 1st shot I was thinking I would use 7 iron all day long , use the slope like a putt to take it down , I find it’s more consistent than trying to guess the carry and roll out , I chip with many different clubs depending on carry and roll out , for normal chip and runs
60 1/1. 1 yard carry and 1 roll med trajectories
    56 1/2
    52 1/3
    Pw. 1/4
9 iron 1/5 and so forth

I am curious to know what were the factors considered for selecting instructors for the series? Thanks again Tyler for taking care of our Princess 👸 can’t say I’ve ever seen him excited about hopping to a bunker. 👍 🐰

To be able to bring the point to hit down (to a certain degree) while keeping face open for the bounce is priceless. It shows Tyler has lots of experience in both coaching short game and playing the game.

Good video... what did wonders for me was a wedge fitting... BOUNCE choices make huge difference as well as loft that that fit ones style and how they picture the shot... I use 9,PW,50,56, and 64... of hole is downhill I’ll use higher loft to check and trickle down and if uphill lower loft and chip it into the slope...

So many strokes get added to my scorecard with flubs, chunks, skulls, no run out on my 'bump and run' shots. Have gone to using hybrids around the green just to minimize the mistakes, and just to get it in the general direction of the pin. Have access to an indoor facility this winter, so short game and putting will see some work being done. Like the specific mechanic being used, and being explained in detail how and why it is executed this way. Great vids!

Me too, it's a hybrid every time (as long as there isn't a Bunker in play)

Matt ... here is something to try. For a short pitch take your normal address without a club BUT with a golf ball in your left (trail) hand. Now, from your address position toss the ball underhand to the target. Notice the feel and position of your trail hand. Repeat until comfortable. Then, hit a shot with your wedge keeping that same trail hand feeling and position ... like an underhand toss.

Thanks to Matt for making me feel better about my self.... he might out-drive me by 50+ yards, but I might be able to get inside his chips...
even if I am a stroke behind at that point Cos I took an extra shot to get there 😂🤷🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️

Sound and feel with wedges on those 50yd shots lob shots took me a while to get used to. It almost sounds/feels like a miss hit. Ian mentioned it in a wedge test on getting that strike a little lower on the face and at about 12:00 Tyler says "Ahhhh...that's the sound". The result would be good but I'd feel like a got away with a bad shot! LOL

i think the biggest mistake with the hinge and hold people do is overdoing it, if you watch mickelson carefully you will see it's a little hinge and hold that with a smooth yet slightly aggressive acceleration through the finish, this also helps moving you sweet spot towards the target

My number one issue and true w a lot of amateurs is the club coming back too far in the back swing. I see Matty only swings to the knees on this shot.
    Any tips for that?

Great video,, but as far as ball position goes, I’m a firm believer of Phil Mickelson’s theory: playing the ball outside the rear foot to ensure a descending blow and definitely hinge & hold !

    hi!
This shot is perfect to be play with a 9 or pw, if you hit 100 shot with a sw and 100 shot with a 9 iron, I'am positif that the average is going to be better with the 9 iron. It is harder to hit a fat 9 iron then a fat sw

This video has me questioning what the point of a 60 even is

    • @JJ-lm4pg
      @JJ-lm4pg 4 года назад +1

60s became a thing because the turf conditions got faster thanks to evolution of landscaping equipment for golf. Back when Seve was around you only needed a sandwedge and that was it. Now, greens are cut shorter. However having said that, that's only for PGA tour or very well manicured courses (like this one in the video). If you're playing on the weekend, superintendents usually slow the greens down. Most people could get away with only a 56 degree.
