The map and the little tiles to mark places you've been are cute, would make for a nice wall hanger for a person who's big into world travel, but the micro-builds and photo clips don't really add any real value to me
Can you imagine getting one of these sets as a gift... you shake the box and hear the lego noises, you start removing the wrapping paper to reveal these sets. I would be so dissapointed 😂
The message board instructions being separate sheets makes a lot of sense if it's supposed to be built by multiple different people. Everybody can have their own sheet and build their own letters
Two elements I was hoping for while watching this video: A brick built "Subscribe", and the return of multiple passport photos. Tiago did not disappoint!
I think the Lego Masters logo is missing on EU boxes since European countries have their own unique seasons of Lego Masters. It would be confusing to see the logo of the series on a model, which they haven’t seen in their version of the show.
I think the leaflets for the Message Board set make more sense when you consider that they are meant to encourage multiple people to build together. "Here, you make the E and the G and I'll make the L and the O." I've always struggled to share my enjoyment of Lego with others, since the build instructions are necessarily linear. It would always end up with, "I'll find the pieces, you put them together." With separate instruction leaflets for separate parts of the build, everyone can participate on equal footing.
True, but they could also make it as several booklets. Have a spread to contain 2 steps/page instead of 3 steps per letter (you will have 4 per letter, per spread this way). And have a booklet to contain ~8 letters. So you can have up to 4 booklets with all the letters, all the numbers, and the symbols. Its basically the form factor of the booklets that is easy to navigate and is not a hassle to open and turn over. Less paper surface area means more surface area for you to build with.
Travel Moments is such an insult to Chris & Robert’s incredible build. I’m happy for them, but they deserved better. The value difference between these 2 sets is mind boggling and the fact they don’t even credit them outside the US makes it even more insulting. It kinda makes sense since it’s based on the American version of LEGO Masters, but I think that’s all the more reason to inform people whose creation this set is inspired by (even if very loosely).
4:06 - There are other versions of LEGO Masters around the world, including ones specific to several different European countries. So maybe they thought the "LEGO Masters" branding would be confusing if it references an episode not watchable by Europeans (at least on "normal" TV). But they could have specified it as from the "American LEGO Masters", but maybe they don't think that would be a selling point. Regardless, it seems like quite a snub to not at least credit Chris and Robert properly somewhere in the instructions!
LOL the turbulence reference was great! Thank you for such a thorough review, I had been wondering how small the photo would have to be, like from a photo booth?
You're right, the Message Board needs color. I was about to wonder if that could be done practically -- that the additional color would adversely affect the piece count -- but then I remembered that Dots did this in a $20 set in "41950 Lots of DOTS: Lettering". On top of that, "43221, 100 Years of Disney Animation Icons" had a better idea for the framework.
I think the main issue with the photo sets is that they think all we have are photo booth prints and Polaroids. Whenever I do make photo prints, it's usually a 4x6 or 5x7. Maybe they should start with photo frame sets.
The message board set is interesting, even if just to see a Lego font, but I'm baffled the frame isn't just 6x8 Technic bricks pinned together. That would have made the whole build MUCH simpler by just attaching one 6x8 brick to each tile separately instead of having to build this weird frame separately. The current solution with 5x7 Technic panels seems overly complicated and adds a lot of unnecessary parts such as all the 1/2 pins.
I just wonder if it's possible to track down one of the designers for that Travel Moments set, and ask them why the set's design was so drastically different to what Chris and Robert even made? In fact, you know what would have been a better way to approach the set? Have the set's build focus more on the airliner, and that the airliner should have been a base for builders to build smaller dioramas of places they've been to, and stack them on the plane! I just wonder how long it took to for the official design team at The LEGO Group to make this set, as it seems heavily rushed out after seven months since the Season 4 finale of _LEGO Masters._ (Also, can we take a little moment to appreciate _The LEGO Ninjago Movie_ Sets? There are a handful of them with absolutely dream-like price-per-piece ratios because The LEGO Group thought the box office sales would pay the budget for the sets. I just miss those times when The LEGO Group had that much faith in their own properties, but we all know the story of how well that movie performed, and just how little general audiences care for original LEGO themes these days.)
I’ll be checking Bricklink for the parts to make the photo holder stand and maybe the airplane stand. I wonder how much the opalescent 2x4 brick will go for?
Hello Tiago. I see the Ghostbusters ECTO-1 Icon playset on your shelf. However, I cannot locate the review video on your channel. Can you provide me a link, please?
Despite the issues in this theme, the message board is not that bad in practice. I'm surprised it was thought for all sorts of languages with that many stuff. I'd certainly buy and expose naughty words lmao
Most of the side builds in travel moments could have been unique sets or gwp, like the airplane. The message board sounds oké, but where to stash the rest of the parts? But if they had something for that, we had to complain also I guess 😉. But all together these two sets seems not be 'finished'. Great reviews by the way.
They probably didn’t need to include 5 brick separators in the map if they wanted to keep price down - I get the set is meant to build together but they can’t be shared? How often are bricks being misplaced??
The travel moments one would only really make sense if it was just the map, it was larger, and it had some sort of system with NFC tags/QR codes to link to digital photo albums from those places. Alternatively, if it was big enough to place miniature monuments that represented having been somewhere.
Hey Tiago, are you going to be looking at the Sonic the Hedgehog series any time soon? It's actually pretty cool and results in some nice display pieces for Sonic fans, plus some clever build techniques. Also, NO STICKERS
I think the idea is that you put camera pieces down in the locations you took a photo that you're displaying with the set, the bags are just for other places you've been
LEGO Masters (US) is only shown in the USA, and is based on the UK Series Lego Masters, which the build shown did not happen in, this is show in several places in Europe, and there are also now series across Europe, Australasia, and South America, which again did not feature the build and so this is removed from boxes outside the USA as it would confuse
the Lego Masters branding is likely absent from the EU release of Travel Moments because the winning build it's based on is from the north american version of the show
As with most LEGO products, the prices seem ridiculously high. This is especially so when you compare them to the products offered by Pantasy and Funwhole, CADA et al. Of course, there’s the argument about the quality of LEGO bricks compared to those offered by alternative brick companies. But, that argument falls down where you again compare them to the leading rivals. LEGO may see themselves as a premium luxury product. But others are closing in!
I really just don't see the travel set as doing the winning build justice. I would have loved it if it was a plane that had pieces and ideas for building a favorite location on the back similar to the winning build. If they made the scale right, it could even have been compatible with the skyline or postcard scene builds for more detail. I'd have been all over that. As it is, I've made one overseas trip and that's all I'm likely to ever afford, making a world map pointless for me. A bigger US map would be nice, as would a larger Europe map for folks over there who travel a lot.
Very weird sets. I could see the appeal of the Message Board if it had been much, much cheaper, despite the parts count I don't see many people spend €100 for something like this. And it also feels needlessly complicated. In that regard I think the DOTS Message Board made a lot more sense: Does the same thing in a simpler way and was less than half the price. And even just as a parts pack, it's decent but we're not exactly talking very special pieces. As for the Travel Moments, I love to travel and in itself the idea of a map you can mark the places you've been on isn't bad. It's just that the other stuff doesn't make any sense. And the insane price is just the final nail in the coffin. Now imagine this being just the map for well under €100, and then a few separate Classic-style sets to build microscale landmarks you can place on that map. And then maybe a few of those picture clips around the map. But as it is, it feels like a bunch of poorly executed ideas.
The more I look at the Travel Moments, the more I feel like Christopher and Robert got duped. We were never gonna get a one-to-one build based on their design, but still.
The message voard is a great set, with a great price The Travel Moments set is baffling The LM build was mainly an airplane, everyone thought the set would be a smaller version of the build. The sets execution could have been better and made more sense. And the price is bad. I'm happy for Duckbricks, but the set is baffling
They could have at least separated the frame pieces from the letter pieces. Not my thing but I could definitely see people like mums buying it to do something with their Lego fan children. Especially since they are promoting it as a family project, people like my mum fall hard for the family pitch.
I’d much rather just have a plane with a stand without everything else. Why not make something like the large white plane they did before. I guess to similar
If anybody gets me either of those sets for a gift I hope they include the receipt so I can return it and get a decent set, otherwise it will languish in the bottom of my closet forever.
When I heard that the winner of Lego masters season 3 would get its own Lego set, I was excited. I was hoping that the finale would be the contestants designing their own set rather than a big build, but nonetheless I was still hopeful for the set that Lego would make from duckbricks’ build. But the set they made is just pathetic. An insult to Lego masters, duckbricks, and any Lego fan. The price is just the cherry of top.
LEGO's biggest mistake with Travel Moments is thinking I can travel after spending all of my money on sets.
LMAOO
nah real
Lol😂
@madeofbricks Fr
Spitting FACTS 😂😭
Travel Moments has to be one of the most baffling sets of the year. Extremely overpriced for a way too simple build.
Indeed. However, not even crediting Chris and Robert somewhere seems wrong.
@@JonLeung1The LEGO Masters version of Duckbricks’ plane is scaled down in that new official set.

That was the main thing from the Lego Masters build. Just shows how badly they botched this set
Exactly I really don’t know what they were thinking with it especially there pricing and even the Lego masters branding in europe
