I love how no matter what he always defends his characters. Shows he truly gets into his role and learns who his characters are in a much deeper understanding. Even if nobody else does, he knows hia character best.
Cal is a deeper character then we see in the film version, the deleted scene where he finds a rose look alike in steerage and looks heartbroken really changes his character, hence why they kept it out.
At that scene Cal was looking for the diomand necklace because it was in the coat Rose was wearing, not because he actually cared about Rose.lol.Have you watched it properly? He even tried to shoot her when the ship was sinking. What kind of love is that huh?
@@yarenkuyumcu9789 James cameron himself has talked about how cal is a deeper character in the script and deleted scenes. They made him more of a movie monster for the actual release
@@HunterMagunter Well yes, he was not pure evil but he was a morally grey character not completely bad nor good.He resembles toxic masculinity,he thought she deserved to be killed just bacause she was in love with someone else, thus the way he behaved Rose in general was disgusting. He saw her as something he owned,as his property.
Saw the 25th Anniversary showing of Titanic. Amazing movie, and what a performance from Mr Zane. Seeing it now, although I wasn’t young when I saw it in 97 somehow I appreciated everything about the film that much more.
Lol I often think of Titanic from his perspective… Imagine being engaged to this beautiful girl. You take her on the grandest ship in the world, give her the most expensive jewelry, and vouch to take care of her for the rest of your life… and suddenly she starts cheating on you in the slums with some homeless guy… anyone would go into a fit of rage.
Why does everyone think Cal was bad guy after all. Of course I saw him like that when I was 8 yrs old and watched Titanic everyday, but as a mature grown up that's absolutely silly. I mean he's this ridiculously rich guy who buys her fionce whatever her heart desire (even those disliked Picasso paintings), suffers all her whims, he even gives her that enormous diamond to cheers her up, instead of pompously present it in front of everybody. Tehnically he's bad because he looses his mind when her bride to be spends entire evening in an inappropriate company and because he falsely accused Jack of stealing diamond to get rid of him, after Jack slept with Rose. You can imagine any other jealous person with power doing something much worser. Just imagine Titanic movie would be shown from different perspective, about rich boy and his super spoiled girl who hooks up with first third class person she meets just to cause chaos.
He wasn't a bad guy, he was just very narrow-minded and ill-equipped in thinking that true love had a price tag on it...that was really his only flaw. He lived by a certain set of principles that he only realised later were useless...his nerves are ultimately fried in the end and he just loses the plot. His woman is being whisked away by someone that he let into his own camp and also they're on a sinking ship. His life is on the line anyway, how much worse could it be? I felt bad for Cal...had he been in a situation to Jack and had pretty much nothing, I imagine he wouldn't have been such a misogynistic prick...protective probably but only out of genuine regard for Rose...
Hypatia Hardy he constantly tried to control the way she talked, acted and thought. He was always so judgmental of her and wanted her to behave the way he wanted. Then he hit her too. If you pay attention he was abusive.
***** I understand his perspective too. But he was abusive too. She couldn't break it off. Her mother controlled her and made her be with Cal. She was doing it for her mom. She loved her mom but hated her for forcing her into that lifestyle that's why she freed herself from her and Cal.
I feel sorry for Billy when I see him in interviews. The interviewers are so obnoxious and he looks like he is trying to get through it as painless as possible.
I'm not offend of using the word "underrated" too much bc I don't feel many things truly are & it's misused a lot, but this guy really is an under-rated actor.
that's really great comment, that's really difficult to happenstance, it would take complicated debate between & among many people, phenomena, others,,
The thing I’ve never understood is why Cal didn’t check with an officer for the survivors names. How many people on board that ship were named Dawson, even more so how many had the first name Rose. It’d be a little more than a coincidence.
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again Billy Zane should definitely play Lex Luthor in a Superman film! He has the perfect voice and look for it, definitely reminds me of Lex from the animated series
I just saw Billy Zane is South Pasadena yesterday trying to act like a regular guy with his family...no way I wouldn't recognise the voice of Ansem, Seeker of Darkness.
"Take a look at this tiny place. To the heart seeking freedom, this island is a prison, surrounded by water. And so this boy, sought out to escape from his prison. He sought a way to cross over into other worlds, and he opened his heart to darkness."
Part of me feels Billy had a nuance of sarcasm and irony when talking about how Cal should’ve redeemed himself on the Carpathia. You can see by the look on his face, when they brought up his character from Titanic, that he was sick of it. So to spice things up, he’s like “Eh, was he all bad? He should’ve reunited with Rose!” 😂
Oh god, my whole life I thought he played that villain priest guy in The Mummy. That guy is Arnold Vosloo. I was like “why isn’t anyone talking about his role in The Mummy?” Lol I also didn’t even realize he was in Back to the Future.
He has one of the most beautiful male faces in all of Hollywood history. I love the colour and shape of his eyes. Does anybody think that O.T Fagbenle from The Handmaid's Tale kind of resembles him?
I can't say I feel his pain, but I played an iconic part in a commercially successful high school play. Now when i talk about upcoming parts to school media the reporters and journalists always want to ask me about that one role I played all that time ago.
Billy Zane is so great as an actor that one will never forget the character he plays. It’s awesome because he is really handsome & kind; however, he can act like he is the most vilest person.
He was amazing in Titanic. Should have been at least nominated for it.
Sorry?
Eddie Wu what?
I couldn't agree more. His acting performance was outstanding.
He was brilliant there. Absolutely brilliant.
His acting was very well for sure!! 😁

He would've been the perfect Lex Luthor!
Ikr? He even acts like him >.
Demi Alabi he can pull the british accent like in superman/justice League animated series.
Intrestingly enough, he even sounds like Clancy Brown.
Yes!!!
Why is that the best idea I've heard this decade?
he was so hot in titanic
Emelie Peach
A handsome fella Caleton Hockley but a horrible attitude.
Also in Tales From The Crypt Demon Knight
And then he lost his hair.
MsCreepyPasta he was always bald, if you rewatch titanic, and look closely, he wears a wig.
Mr.Pasta Lol
The thing is he played Cal too well... It just had an impact on his career afterwards
why no nomination.
When you put it that way. It means everything.
He did star in some Sniper movies
I agree, if I recall he stated that girls were disgusted by him in real life. They couldn't seperate character from the actor.
This guy is a good actor. He makes you really hate his characters. In real life he’s very outgoing and nice.
Somebody cast Billy Zane in more roles. He was so great in Twin Peaks.
full of potential too bad he was highly underrated
Zane's look and mannerism when asked about his character in titanic!
2:35-2:42: he's defending his character in Titanic. lol😅
He would be perfect as Lex Luthor, Doctor Doom, or an Ancient Egyptian
that's somewhat provocative at the latter part of yur syntax, yet the comment is quite interesting and excellent
Haha he does look like Imhotep
Agreed
What about Arnold Vosloo?
I’m thinking Professor X
billy played one of the most epic roles in history,
legend!
Billy Zane was unbelievable in Titanic.
He’s still hot. He’s aged well.
What do you mean he's aged ?? Not !!

Geez, these people don’t let Billy finish his thoughts.
I think a lot of comic fans would love to see Billy Zane as Lex Luthor. It would be so true to the original comics.
He looks a little like Lex Luthor from the 1990s Superman cartoon and early 2000s Justice League cartoon, and has a similar voice to Clancy Brown.
He intentionally misfired Jack & Rose with Lovejoy’s gun and wished them for good time - that was pure kindness 😉
