Hey thanks Godfrey keeping people straight about John Amos. In the mid-late 90s I had the pleasure of acting with him in the Emperor Jones at The Empire Theater in Richmond Virginia. He played Emperor Jones (Paul Roberson's Role) and did a marvelous job to the point it was his role & he commanded it superbly. Treated everybody in the cast just like him with Honor and Grace. And was always willing to have an ear to listen to questions and spend time talking to you like an old friend. He was helpful to me in that regard! We need more people in the E business like him. Watching Good Times growing up was like watching my family portrayed on television. Florida was almost the spiting image of my mom. James was built like my dad. Jimmy was my older brother who grew up to become a DJ. My sister was Thelma, and that makes me Michael, the youngest. It was like watching us on television, just living in a different town with the same struggles. The characters of Florida and James are exactly what my parents were like. Great show. John Amos was my T.V. dad, and there wasn't much difference from my actual dad. Great Job representing us and countless other African American families. He is definitely a king.

Watching Good Times growing up was like watching my family portrayed on television. Florida was almost the spiting image of my mom. James was built like my dad. Jimmy was my older brother who grew up to become a DJ. My sister was Thelma, and that makes me Michael, the youngest. It was like watching us on television, just living in a different town with the same struggles. The characters of Florida and James are exactly what my parents were like. Great show. John Amos was my T.V. dad, and there wasn't much difference from my actual dad. Great Job representing us and countless other African American families. He is definitely a king.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience with the late great John Amos. It seems odd talking about him past tense. He was really smart and I loved listening to him speak eloquently. I remember when my mom told me she had a crush on Amos when he was on the Mary Tyler Moore show.
