I’ve been searching for this show forever! Thanks for the upload! Something about John Goodman’s voice, it’s comforting and makes the food look that much more delicious! Lol
Wow! I didn't realize at first, that it was John who was doing the narrating here! Sounds like John must've had the misfortune of being a bit hoarse, on the day he recorded his narration for this. I thought at first, that it sounded like Barry White from "Storage Wars" who was doing the narrating here! LOL!! - No offense, Mr. Goodman!!! 😊 Best Regards & Highest Respects! Ron H. Abilene, TX.
Yes, EATING is definitely an American past time. Me too, I love to eat! I've eaten too good in this life. Now, I'm paying the price. Watch your heart folks!
I've lived in Canada for over 30 years and I've never heard anyone refer to chicken and dumplings as 'chicken and sliders'. Generally speaking, a slider is a mini burger made with exceptional cuts of beef.
I think the slider reference is because southern style dumplings are like large noodles that tend to be very slippery. Like "slide" down your throat slippery.
My Dad who was born and raised in the NJ Mountains, wouldn't eat this kind of Dumpling that he called "slickums" . The texture is probably what got this restaurant's dumplings that name. His Mama made big fluffy dumplings that were lights as a feather. The dough was more like biscuit dough except very little if any lard. Then it was spoon dropped on top of the simmering chicken and broth, then simmered for 20 minutes uses with no peeking.
I loved the seemingly unending meat that oozed out around the edges, fast food was my thing in out of the way places. Now I am in my 80's. Prefer a nice restaurant, lobsters, Filet Mignon with a good wine. No rush, no hurry up and gobble it down. Spend an hour or two just savoring the food, company and ambiance of the restaurant. The cost is much higher but isn't that what you worked for all your Life?
Diners are the hidden jewels of restaurants. Some are 'greasy spoons' while others diamonds-in-the-rough. In New England where I grew up. there used to be great diners on the roads between New York and Boston. Roads like the Old Post Road had foreign restauranteurs in those trailer/diners which had the best food. The proprietors were exactly like the SNL parody: 'cheeseburger, cheeseburger'. Poor service but great prices and great food. I'm afraid after the years and the pandemic, most are now gone...
I was in the Marine Corps and I drove a lot from east coast to the west coast and had a lot of great chow in some of the most out of the way places. I love diner food!!!!!!!
Americans have never heard of the word heart attack, cause they eat so healthy....no sugars no fats, no carbs, just fibers, vitamins ,proteins and minerals....I enjoyed seeing how healthy they all ate!
I was a regular at the Flamingo (#5) in the 1970s & 1980s until my job moved. Then I would stop in once & a while after that until they finally closed. In 2017, I started going to Tommy's Family Restaurant also in Jersey City because I was told they had a family connection to Andy from the Flamingo. I'm in there one Friday for the mac & cheese for lunch. Who is my waitress, Sophie! And as they said in the this show, she looked at me and said, "You're here for the mac & cheese, no fish cakes, right?" She remembered!
My husband and I used to go to Arizona from Wisconsin for the winter, “Snowbirds”. One year we took a drive up to Rock Springs to look around. We had lunch and of course we bought a pie, a Lemon Mirange, how do you spell it? On the way home to Sun City there was a stop sign that my husband didn’t see, I yelled “STOP”, he slammed on the brakes and the pie which was on the back seat flew on the door. It was a little mashed but still tasted delicious.
i ordered the beth's 12-egg omelet once thinking i could polish it off..... no way. it looks smaller on video, in reality it's enormous. it's easily enough food for 4 normal people.
I have been to Ria's very good, the brisket is wonderful. It is not a huge place. Atlanta has so many great breakfast places, one of the best cities if you like breakfast out.
I have been in the USA three times. It is amazingly difficult to find a traditional and good diner. The country is infested with tens of thousands of fast food sorry excuses for restaurants. But if you look very, very, very hard and ask locals, you might find one of those gems.
Bob & Edith's outside of DC is the best diner in the United States. I heard they just opened up a second location for the first time in over gosh I think they've been in business over 60 years with that one spot they had don't quote me on that though cuz I'm almost just as old
I love this series. I've seen every episode. IDK why, but the #1 spot for each episode always disappoints me. I feel like who every wound up as #1 should have been #10. Am I the only one who thinks this?
Yeah, that's what the video says, when he retires and leaves, all the recipes they have are in his head and when he leaves, so do the recipes. Rather selfish and snobbish if you ask me. The diner will be in trouble. But who knows, maybe with this pandemic he didn't get to pull that one off and they had to close their doors anyway.
Those breakfast are so good and delicious but deadly to your health, need at least an hour exercise to me in the treadmill to burn those cholesterol and fat you consume.
Your stomach is like a garbage disposal on eating those food, eat that every day, could be the end of your life, but enjoy while you can as life is too short.
You Didn't visit the BlueBonnet Cafe in Marble Falls Texas.... Another Great Restaurant is the River City Grille, also in Marble Falls Texas. The RATT in Texas.... 🐭🐭🐭
Not the lady saying "As long as he has health insurance, he should be fine" 😅😂😂

They are all great but get rid of the big city diners and look at the small towns! Best by far!
I was one of the editors for this show. It is really unfortunate that most of the diners showcased in this show is now closed or bankrupt.
Bummer 😕

Why would you make crispy hash browns and then put an omelette on top of them so they'll get steamed and soggy?
