  • This movie is a new family movie hitting theaters from a story that most kids will not recognize and we need to see if we can agree and say its very family friendly.
Inside of his book, adventurous Harold (Zachary Levi) can make anything come to life simply by drawing it. After he grows up and draws himself off the book’s pages and into the physical world, Harold finds he has a lot to learn about real life-and that his trusty purple crayon may set off more hilarious hijinks than he thought possible. When the power of unlimited imagination falls into the wrong hands, it will take all of Harold and his friends’ creativity to save both the real world and his own. Harold and the Purple Crayon is the first film adaptation of the beloved children’s classic that has captivated young readers for decades.
Directed by Carlos Saldanha and produced by John Davis, the live-action hybrid family adventure/comedy stars Zachary Levi, Lil Rel Howery, Benjamin Bottani, Jemaine Clement, Tanya Reynolds with Alfred Molina and Zooey Deschanel. The film’s screenplay is written by David Guion & Michael Handelman, based on the book by Crockett Johnson.

I read the books and the movie does do a lot of things that people over look. It provides humour it definitely brings Harolds imagination in the third dimension.

I worked in a bookstore for 20 years. The source material this is based on is like 20 pages and most of that is pictures. I also had no idea this was coming out nor had ever heard of it.

Me and my wife liked it the theater was half way full. I would watch it again. It was better than inside out 2 or most kids movies this year.

I took my nieces and son to see it, ages 10-4! You’re right, definitely for kids. It was a funny family movie, I found it to be hilarious just because it took me back to my childhood days. Overall for me it was funny but I forgot to say it was a good movie, hopefully it becomes a big streaming movie because yes it’s just that!

Saw the movie yesterday. Was that Jake Johnson in the framed photos as Terri's dead husband?

Im with you, i thought that this was the most harmless kids' movie you'll watch this year. It's not good, but it's completely tolerable, and I'll take this any day over insufferable crap like 'The Garfield Movie' and 'Despicable Me 4'.
I did my own review, and I kind of compared it to 'The Last Airbender'. Now that movie is far worse, but what I mean by that is whether or not you know the original source material that it's based on. Something still doesn't feel right here.
Also, when it comes to editing, you really can tell that this was in production hell for a while because it's so rushed and they try to cram so much into this 90 minute runtime, that I completely forgot about things like the porcupine getting chased by the cops.

It didn't seem like this was promoted at all and seemed like nobody was buzzing about it at all. You are correct, probably okay for little kids to watch on streaming on some random morning to keep the entertained. Looked dumb. Nobody talked about it. Zachary needs a win. Last few Levi movies are not great. Skip it. For real kids. I have an AMC movie pass and wouldn't even see this for 'free.'

I'm also fascinated by your wardrobe changes. I imagined that you sat down and knocked out like four or five of these in a row but the shirt always changes....

I almost wanted support the movie for Zachary Levi but then I realized there are way better movies to see than this so I decided to go see trap instead. Still I wanted to support him but this movie isn't it.
