The 182’s climb performance at VX always brings a smile to my face. It’s a rare moment when I find myself needing to climb at such a high angle of attack-most of the time, I’m aiming for VY or even faster, as seen in this video. Happy New Year!
in training in a 172 during a hard winter morning in north of Dallas in 90s, temp was only 22, pressure was over 30.00, clear, visibility greater than 20 miles. WE COULD NOT DO STALLS. Even trying idle, power off, we had enough lift that we did slow flight down to 35-36 kts & never stalled. Around 3pm, went back out w/ temp 36 & could only do takeoff stalls & they were all like doing a hammerhead stall aeorbatics routine.
To avoid dropping in over the power wires, most of my landings are in the opposite direction wind permitting. With light breaking after touch down, I'll roll out in about 500'. At this weight takeoff rolls can average 300-450' depending on runway conditions and density altitude.
Gary that’s why I love flying the 182 because of the performance and cold weather

Arguably the best single engine airplane Cessna ever made. Easy to take off in a short distance when the temp is below 0 degF lol

You know your airplane very well and I’m looking forward to seeing you more in the coming 2025 ,, happy new year
Doing what 182s are designed to do ! That's super Gary.
Hey Rich, Have you been flying the Odyssey?
Dense cold air = good lift & HP + frozen hard dirt like concrete. Good job. I want to see you land there. Is that a one way in-out?

Amazingly short take off roll for sure.
What year ? Empty weight ? What weight were you on takeoff ?
1977 182Q, 230hp, empty weight 1833lbs, takeoff weight 2400lbs.
@ mine 1964 C182G, 1689.4 lbs empty, 230hp also. It does takeoff like your when i’m around 2400lbs.
Details Gary.....We want details...Lol
The wing and tail have VG's installed, other than that everything is stock. Conditions were calm winds and 25 degrees F.
