When watching this video, I like pretending that it was uploaded just for us, but then accidentally set to 'public'. Tell Alan hi! He's doing exceptional work in the genre of wireframe Orangutans. Also gonna be quoting your Captain's Quadruple-Blade Hair Eradicator™endlessly. -N
Alan is awesome, he needs a raise Captain.
my favorite crossover :')
@@AlbertBurdge how can you get a raise if you're an unpaid intern?
I'll pretend it WAS just for you, and you decided to share it with the world!
Captain's love letter to CorridorCrew accidentally leaked and made public.
I’ve learned more in the last 16 minutes than an entire semester of After Effects class in college
Mark, please expand on the rumors of you being homosexueality.

When are you going to make debunk videos😂
Marques knows quality. We all love CD.
Real.
It's always a good year when Captain Disillusion uploads.
lol
He didn't forget about us!
Laughing at a youtube comment? I just did that witrh yours. Kudo to you sir :)

I love how he debunks stuff and never lets an opportunity slip to show off his own insane VFX skills

I like when he said give it a nudge it suddenly aligned itself completely straight
CD: "You would be insane to do it this way" ... while demonstrating how to do it that way.
Omfg
7:00 Captain D just casually removes the Orangutan from this shot, while flawlessly recreating what Matt G's reflections would've looked like on the empty habitat, just to demonstrate how difficult it would be to fake his reflections on the Orangutan! God, I love these videos. Granted, doing this for a single frame is quite different than for a whole video, but Christ. Captain D's debunkings often use even more visual effects trickery than the videos they're debunking
He had a frame of reference though because of when he went to the zoo.
This proves Captain D’s videos are fake
what do you mean?
@@cam5816 of course it uses effects
That’s the point lol
I strongly approve of the map at 03:06.
yeahhhhh!!
It's that time of year when all the best RUclipsrs start to emerge from their hibernation.
Jay approving a map is a high compliment. I'm glad the captain got certification from 1/2 of the Map Men
as a resident of essex i have to agree
@@kamo7293 Hey! This is a family channel, and I demand you sensor "Ess*x" as the Captain did.
I love when he goes "they couldn't have done this" and then shows, on screen, the effect that they didn't do, by doing it himself. Truly powerful stuff 😂😂😂
That's a cool flex there
Or staff
And then breaks his own rule by using crappy VFX right after.
just like in older videos where he manually recreates the pre-edited scenes flawlessly
this is why we dont get any uploads for 12-16 months and its worth it
I genuinely think you're the best RUclipsr that exists and probably will exist for a long time.
Same This man is amazing
IGP, sup dude! I can hear Icy screaming at that magic trick at the end haha.
Agreed! The numbers speak for themselves! Oh wait, no they don't...
I absolutely agree! The time he had the Beakman's World cast on the show, I almost couldn't contain myself.
@@matthewbeers4888 I forgot about that! Beakman was way better than Nye. Mr. Wizard rocked too.
I love how he's just like "how could this visual effect be done? it'd be near impossible to do convincingly." meanwhile the visuals he's describing are just being pulled off flawlessly while he's talking about it.
Right? It's such a classic CD gag too, he can't keep getting away with it
Another hole in one Cap’n.
It’s actually impressive how simple and obvious the trick is once you see it explained. But until then I had no idea how it was done.
Props to Matt for the flawless execution.
Oh hey there! Im still procrastinating your donut tutorial lmao
donuts for dinner tonight thx andrew
Donut man it’s you!
Hello BG!
Mark of a classic magic trick. Probably why it stumped corridor, Alan and captain so long.
Penn and Teller probably would've gotten it quick. It's actually fascinating how expertises can diverge like that
These are always such a treat to watch, thanks for the astounding effort you put into them! Still recovering from the Matt Parker jump scare.

I pooped my pants bro!!
love you and your videos Sebastian ❤
Holy shit Sebastian Lague
Oh you're the logic gate guy
I love how he always recreates the effects perfectly and seamlessly (15:46), that just shows how skilled Captain D is.
Well, he did say it was shoddy VFX, so making it look better would only take decent VFX, not phenomenal VFX. and for this reason I say we bring back the guillotine
I need captain D to explain how captain D does these effects
@@lilchromie Captain Double D will explain how Captain D does it, and it's gonna be kinda sexy so strap in
I disagree i clearly saw the card in the front. Hopefully he was showing just a crappy example.
@@aceman0000099not true
I always love how he casually puts in Visual Effects in the debunks that are so much better than what he's debunking.
It *feels* casual. There's nothing casual about it.
@@lightingman117 Yeah, but if his effects are *always* that top notch, doesn't it mean that it's casual for him 😄?
"How would he composite the reflection over light hay onto his dark fur?" he says, compositing the reflection over light hay over the orangutans dark fur.
Debunk the video, then one-uping them
@@joosepkaha1687 Doubt it feels casual for him, these take months to make. lol And especially when he gotta rotoscope, the pain.
The Matt Parker cameo was so wonderfully out of left field! I'm so glad he stepped in to get us footage of the Zoo, what a G.
Man, I hope he makes a reference to this in his next video.
Matt Parker, for some reason, gives me the absolute creeps. I don't know what it is. I don't fuckin' like him. Just a vibe or something.
@@LegoDork He just has a lot of energy.
@@LegoDork Weird take. Maybe he looks or talks vaguely like someone you don't like from real life and your brain is unconsciously mapping your negative feelings about that person onto him?
@@LegoDork It's probably all the math. Some people just can't handle it, you know? And that's fine.
I love how casually he creates an illusion that is 10x harder to decipher by the end of it... is just like: "you should have left that up to me dude."
The arm kinda gives away a hefty amount of it, it's pretty well done but it kinda doesn't look like a real arm
@@davidy22the woman’s arm? I was thinking that too
When the card passes through for the last time, it slides slightly to the left, also looks like it rotates a tiny bit.
"casually" it took him 2 years
@@itisinickt im referring to the visuals of it more than how it was actually done. The writing of each episode is so awesome 😎👍

I disagree i clearly saw the card in the front. Hopefully he was showing just a crappy example.
@@AdventuresOfDetroit Aha sure you did
@@jakubSwaps Well I can, and you also can see the edit at which he cut the frame@ 15:54.
I love how he meticulously recreates the 'original' footage without the vfx using really good vfx
it's like watching a modern, VFX-centered Liszt at work
Call that "De-FX".
I always love Captain D's effects flexes. Not only does he break down videos, he shows how good they could have been.
When he made the primates head move... Damn. 😊
i was never jettisoned into space and left for dead before... good thing I had an identical clone on board 😆
Those are not effects, Captain disillusion is really doing those things! :0
This script was fantastic! Super engaging as always -and an insane amount of work put in to the editing. Top notch as always Captain!
That very last hit on the glass moment is "everything, everywhere, all at once" level of vfx. Not even to mention completely clean card transition
Wait, script? I thought he did all this in one take off the cuff
Can the world appreciate that Captain Disillusion modeled and rigged an entire 3d orangutan with the dexterity to flip a card through its fingers -- to show it on screen for less than a second.
The amount of work Captain put in his videos is just astounding. Seriously I don't even matter to wait 6 month if all the videos are at this level.
That ragdoll at the end finished me. Now we know cgiStuntCaptain can be deployed.
I feel ya. Unquestionably worth the wait.
That ending was flawless. Watched it slow mo. His CGI top top the top.
It deserved my very first ever donation to a RUclipsr.
Now I am questioning every magic trick I see on TV. I thought they were actual tricks. Now they could just be video editing.
The effortless-seeming overproduction of these videos is so good. Literally no corner cut, no cheapness ever allowed.
We love to see his obsessive behavior.
I was struggling to find a way to phrase this concisely and you nailed it. The way he doesn't just explain what's happening, but actually creates an entire vfx/sfx showcase to go alongside his explanations. And the way he tends to improve upon the trick he is debunking is just the cherry on top. It's such a classy flex because his entire video up to that point serves the double purpose of explaining why it's so impressive.
Yay Captain! Glad to see a new fun video as always!
Good to see you're a man of culture
Another old guy lol

Really cathartic that this entire video applies every clever technique we've learned over the years from the captain and at the end of it all it was just the oldest trick in the book. Good stuff Cap.
And the framing of the presentation as a noir detective mystery was the cherry on top. Brilliant, informative, engaging, and fun!
@@DirkMcThermot the presentation dangled us all on some invisible wire till we all felt the way he did when he realized... it's just a string
I love how the Captain's style of debunkery never goes away but always adds a certain "flare" to the video. The Rajang moving his head with red eyes. The little wooden puppet as an example. These little touches always makes me laugh with joy.
I love how the Captain describes it as a mystery commending the original video's efforts. The Captain doesn't waste time in describing all the different methods while still entertaining the viewers. He always amazes me.
We all know you're mr.flare in disguise
Or the bit where he points out how hard it would be to extract a reflection from the background in the two-shot approach... and then doing exactly that, in the visuals he made to demonstrate why it is hard.
My favorite detail is the way it says, “FAKE SHAKE!!” It had me cackling.
Fully agreed. It makes my day whenever a new CaptD video drops. (And by the way it's spelled flair, sorry!)
This was like watching someone solve a murder mystery puzzle in a visual novel. Fantastic work!
Ace Attorney but in video form
I don't understand how such high quality videos can just stay under the radar of the youtube algorithm. The Captain never misses!
Because it’s not some tic tac dance video garbage.

RUclips dosen't like quality over quantity
How does this man keep being so impressive? No matter how used you are for CD's content, it still feels almost as if you've just discovered this channel for the first time.
He’s the bob ross of VFX
Uploading every other year helps keep it fresh
hard, hard work. Frame by frame. Render by render.
An excellent example of quality over quantity.
My favorite part of Captain Disillusion videos is when makes a mockup of how an effect might have been done just to illustrate how difficult it would be, such as at 7:08. It's both a fantastic illustration of the concept and a very subtle but effective flex.
A staple of his content for sure. Most take it for granted or not think about it.
Yeah, I just noticed that. Such a flex
The fact you did a throwaway gag with the card going through the layers of glass but executed it 100x better is exactly why we watch
As I am currently through my first rewatch, it's hilarious noticing the bait and switch at 4:05 when you say that "keen-eyed viewers will notice that...", showing us the catwalk and solution to the puzzle with a BIG RED ARROW only to misdirect our attention to the rest of Matt's videos. I can't help but wonder what other details and Easter eggs are sprinkled throughout the video!
Wow nice catch!
The catch 🦅 👀

So sad I don't get it. I have watched this specific part now like 10 times and don't see anything
@@BlackxesWasTaken he could have said "Keen eyed viewers will see the vfx patch over the catwalk, hiding the card rig" and he already has an arrow pointing right to it. Instead the arrow skips right over it.

I absolutely love how despite so many "debunk" videos existing, they all tell a unique story and tell the tale of how the conclusion was met in a different way, it's just so compelling and interesting.
from that last card trick bit you can tell that Captain has the capability to conjure up some VFX magics and go viral on RUclips Shorts if he really wanted to, but decided not to for the sake of quality contents and education. Huge respects.
Or maybe, just maybe, in a world of trying to go viral, some of us just don't give a fuck?
That ending is just a subtle flex to turn down idiots who might jump up with "Oh Capt. D, if you think this wasn't a good trick, let's see YOU do it!". And of course, D does a fantastic job as usual.

That ending trick is so awesome. Trying to figure it out, it's like a puzzle. Things talked about in the video are used, but at the same time they wouldn't work because of other things talked about in the video.
That's what I love about CD's videos. While debunking, he, seemingly casually, adds a whole new level onto it.
Remember the tape measure debunk? He comped himself into the scenes, and it was flawless, more impressive than the actual thing, just to make a point.
The effect is much easier as he did it. Let's just say there's a reason we see the face of the card and not the back.

I don’t think him not noticing the card earlier is entirely coincidental. An added bonus to holding his hands forwards as he starts to back away from the glass is that he’s drawing the orangutan’s attention to them, distracting him until it enters the cone of his vision.
Even having consistently watched all of CD's other videos, I'm still always impressed with how much VFX work he can pack into a single video.
It is impressive work. Alan is a perfectionist.
its why it takes a year to produce a whole video
well worth it
This platform needs more people like you, who treat their videos more like works of art than "content". Good stuff
I agree but this platform needs to pay more for that unfortunately.
I like the fan theory that Captain D knew the escape pod would fail just to kill off the fans who didn’t want to know how the VFX works
The production quality and clean addition of CGI direct into the scenes by the Captain is just amazing!
I had watched dozens of the Captain’s videos before I started noticing the vfx within the videos. Now I watch once for the debunk and again for all the in episode fun stuff!
This episode was so fun to watch. The callback to Dis’s Rock Hard Magic, the return of Dronus™, the way you perfectly transformed Alan’s parents’ room into an exhibit at the end (and pulled off a flawless softbody sim). The production value of these videos somehow continues to increase and top the previous one every time. In terms of how much effort RUclipsrs put in to each video, you are on the top of the list.
We love and appreciate all you do for your community. Keep up the amazing work, Captain! ❤
The fact that the Captain has gone from debunking hoax videos to explaining magicians' illusions is a testament to his channel. So many more people can see through the effects of crappy ghost videos or fake invisibility screens, thanks in no small part to this channel, and now he's had to move on to sterner stuff. What a great addition to a great body of work.
Your videos are some of the most entertaining and insightful on the whole platform. You put in so much effort, not so rarely just for a good joke for example the subtle "touch grass" reference at 3:30. Chapeau!
I'll never understand why Captain D doesn't have 100M subscribers. I get genuinely excited when a new episode drops, and this was no exception.
I agree with everything you said. The reason is post frequency.
He's actually very successful given his field.
Because he posts once or twice a year
He doesn't post reels for the sake of reels and a lot of people like to be lied to for the sake of entertainment.
He doesn’t post clickbait 10x a day every day and he’s not a butter faced egirl with big knockers

I don't care if your next video will take a long time to be produced. The quality of every single aspect of your videos is truly astonishing. Thank you so much for your hard work.
Captain, this is a great video. A wonderful watch all the way thru. Really loved it.
Also, I should note that I'm a big fan of sharing magic secrets. If at the end of a trick the audience guesses the method (in this case camera trick), and also the method is entertaining itself (like in this case) I think it's good to tip the method.
weird how much verified users commented here
Love the shot at 10:50 with Rajang reacting to the 'zookeeper' behind him. I love that the Captain can make videos so much better while working with less than the original resources used to make the video.
it was terrifying LOL
I was just going to commented 😂 it was like always amazing and unexpected
It's such a flex! "We know the compositor doesn't posess the skill to do WHAT I'M DOING!"
Rajang bouta go sicko mode
This is why it takes him over a year to make a new video.
That double-paned demo in the last few seconds was such a boss flex.
I miss when RUclipsrs would make this level of video. It's always nice to enjoy a CD video.
I don't know how he could feel anything other than immense pride and satisfaction when he releases these videos. They are so extremely well done in every facet of production.

I love standupmaths and Matt Parker!
I also hate printing drones... Well real ones...

Love it. CD just shows up, reminds us all why we love him, shows us what he’s great at, respects the original content, and then boom, mic drops on his way out.
Every rewatch of this I see new effects. Like how the enclosure was painstakingly painted out for a frame to get a still of the black glass with reflections.
The production quality and attention to detail in each episode belongs on a paid platform; yet we can view it for free. Captain D is the all time great, and each episode just gets better. Amazing!
