We toast with wine on the continental divide, cross yet another remote international border, and see a giant chicken made out of old high school lockers. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this informative video. We are in the middle of planning our trip to Alaska from Florida in 2024. We did fly to Anchorage in October 2022 and rented a class C for nine nights to explore Seward, Anchorage and up to Denali National Park. We got to stay at one of the free "winter" campsites at Riley Creek. We also spent four days with friends and traveled around in a Jeep Gladiator for more time exploring. This trip confirmed our love for Alaska and for us to make the trip. We love the different styles of travels and yours is very intentional. We are happy to be subscribers.
We are planning on spending 3 days in Dawson City for our trip up to Alaska. Our plan is to travel through Canada to Alaska with our first stop in Banff over a 24 day period. We plan to travel and stop along the way.
If you have good ground clearances (12" or more) think it would be possible, with the understanding that you have really good tires for gravel roads, with a spare (or two); the ability to go 400 miles, maybe carrying extra gas (since gas is not always available at the normal places); and that you are okay going really slow. Sometimes all day not exceeding 30 mph. You may be the slowest vehicle on the road, but you chances of making it intact and without problems are greatly improved if you travel slow. That means pulling over to let others pass a LOT. Especially give truckers a wide berth. They kick up a lot of rocks and are paid by the mile, so will go fast and long. Also, make sure your vehicle is in tip-top shape. Tell your mechanic what you are planning, and that repairs can be nearly impossible in some places. Plan the time and cost for the trip carefully, then triple it. But, it is well worth it. It can be the trip of lifetime. Good luck!
All of the ferries so far have been free. We do some later that charge by the length of your vehicle, like the Alaska ferry system. We both love taking ferries, and will even go out of our way to include them in the route. It's a way to see a different kind of scenery in a relaxed atmosphere.

Great video. This trip is in our near future, haven't been to Yukon since 97. I hope we can get into Alaska next year. Stay safe.

How much does the ferry ride cost?
