This could come off as an insult on the writing but it's not meant to be. Tales from the Crypt built episodes around a core concept rather than in intricate web. Not that there weren't layers to the stories but with the limited runtime their storytelling had to be efficient. This seemed to be a great showcase for writers, directors and actors. Up and coming as well as those who were already established and wanted to have a little fun.,

I agree. To me, they're kinda of like horror fables with each one kinda of like cautionary tale.
