  • We select the 6th annual Sub All-Stars or “Almost Stars,” the players who are in the next tier after All-Stars. First, we sort out All-Star level players, then discuss players on the fringe and possible Sub All-Stars. Who makes the cut?

Herb Jones is young and improving shooter. he's shooting 41% on 3.6 attempts per game this season after being at 34% in his first two seasons. Caruso is a career 38% with high variance from year to year, and is in his 7th season. As good as a defender as Caruso is, Herb is 3 inches taller and can cover a much wider range of players.

As a minor quibble, I feel that you're slightly under-valuing Gobert. The way that Minnesota uses him has added a little bit of resiliency to his offense even against stronger defenses. There's a concept I learned of in gaming called the "limit test", where you fight recklessly and lose a lot because it helps you learn what you're capable of when pushed to the limit. In Minnesota he's given a lot more of a leash than he was in Utah which has led to more turnovers and less efficiency as he tries to develop parts of his game that has atrophied, trying to run fastbreaks and shoot jumpers and post up, but once the playoffs begin I expect him to cut back on the recklessness and tighten up. Now that Towns, Ant and Conley are all used to playing alongside him and taking advantage of his vertical spacing he's become a much more important part of the Minnesota offense, like a permanent release valve where a pressured driver will just throw the ball up and hope it ends up as a Rudy dunk.

In your "Best duos" pod you had Jrue Holiday as the second Celtic next to Tatum. Does Porzingis being above the sub all-star line change your opinion on that or do you still like Jrue's fit a little better? I'm still going with Derrick White and Al Horford, final answer

Is this not just re-casting all-star ballots? Would be interesting to hear you do this as if all the actual all stars didn’t exist, so picking 12 more from each conference as the “next” all stars. We heard every podcast talk about all these all star players during the break already

Booker is a Guard KD is a big Markannen is a wing. Chet & Wemby being in the AS club over Towns & Gobert is insanely wrong

@@dirtywhite8318 Gobert is the 10h best Center in the NBA. But agree that KAT should be an AS.
I Don't care about the semantics of Wing or BIG or Guard since the best teams basically play positionless now
