  • It's again time for the annual Defensive Awards! We hand out awards for best paint protector, perimeter helper and more, as well as discussing some of the current value-drivers philosophical ideas about defense in the 2024 NBA. What player will show up in the most categories? Will anyone win multiple categories?

    Cody's diatribe about 'slap the floor pull up the shorts defense' had me literally crying from laughter

    gp2 needs more love- he's maybe the best defender pound for pound in the NBA. He got the hands, he's got the mobility, AND he's got the ups.

      VERTICAL LEAPING. one of the most underrated defensive attributes

      6'2 and plays like he's 6'7. incredible little-things defender. health is a problem, though.

      I was surprised he didn't get any votes for best hands.

    As a wolves fan who saw Nickeil Alexander Walker play 82 games this year, he is just as good of a perimeter defender as Jaden Mcdaniels right now

    Yall making jokes about blacking out and I literally fell asleep next to my phone but I was still hearing the podcast in my dreams so it sounded like a bunch of big men were assembling at a national conference to be judged before the playoffs. It was honestly really cool. I saw hakeem olajuwon in a bathroom stall next to me while they were talking about wembys recovery skills or something. Anyways I also dont remember what happened this episode

    The Jonathan Isaac love is getting a bit absurd. He plays amazing defense for 15 whole minutes per game.

    It's almost like Wemby doesn't exist. How can you not mention him as a help defender or a versatil defender?

    • @thomaslequesne5475
      @thomaslequesne5475 2 месяца назад +1

      You can be a great defender without being the very best in these specific categories. Having only played 71 games in the NBA probably played against him as well.

    • @bigdsmooth6
      @bigdsmooth6 2 месяца назад +4

      Yeah, watching him switch onto Ja Morant and block his shot while covering a large area of the floor is absurd.

      @@thomaslequesne5475 I would agree with you, but Wemby's diferent. He's the most versatil defender in the world, he can dominante defending 1 to 5. As a help defender there are any player impacting more than him, dude can defend all the court just with his arms.

      @@arturbellini6184 he is amazing in a lot of coverages. But always playing the center role(for now), while Draymond does just everything. If Wemby could get the versatility of Draymond there will be no one in history even in the same league of defender as him(very possible)
      At every single category my first reaction was. Wemby is also good in this. Sometimes he got some votes, some probably just outside.

    I’m really surprised that NAW did not get a motor vote. I watched Jarred Vanderbilt play and NAW’s aggressiveness and motor is probably even better than him.
