- We recently got access to a brand new Piper Archer TX. Yes with a pricetag of $410,000 from the factory. This was the most expensive Archer we have ever been in.
So the question was it worth it? Well thats a tough one to answer. But here are some specs on it.
The perfect combination of durability, reliability, comfort and technology - the Archer® TX is the ideal training platform. Students, instructors and passengers alike will welcome the one-of-a-kind 180 HP Archer® TX with the Garmin G1000 NXi cockpit, and flight school owners will be delighted with the purchase and operating costs of this iconic trainer.
The plane that we know as the Piper Archer is just one member of the Piper PA-28 Cherokee family of aircraft. It received its type certificate from the FAA in 1960 and it hasn’t stopped being produced since!
Over 30,000 PA-28’s have been produced in the almost six decades since they first rolled out of the factory, and that’s for a few great reasons. It was designed as a lower cost competitor to the Cessna 172. In their Cessna competitor, Piper built a plane that would become the Swiss Army Knife of their fleet.
It would act as a framework for them to create a wide range of models with tweaks to fulfill the exact need in their aircraft. Nowadays, there are the Warrior, Arrow, and the Archer TX and LX.
I absolutely love N810AM. I'v flown it twice now and it is absolutely amazing. Also love KAPA, my home airport and favorite to fly in and out of for sure, even though it's busy.
very cool! yes KAPA is very busy. good airport to learn from.
Iconic classic aircraft!
Sure is! 👌
These are literally the cheapest brand new GA aircraft made and people are still complaining it's too expensive? The instrument panel alone is over 100k from Garmin if you buy separately
If 400k scares you for a single piston , don't shop T Cessna beech or cirrus
@9:15 the manual flaps: I don't mind the Johnson bar I just wish Piper would put the fuel selector someplace that is a little easier to reach.
Congrats on the ride in the new plane, that must have been a lot of fun.
Phoenix, AZ
Honestly the Johnson bar has always been reliable so why change it. I agree with the fuel selector aswell.
Fuck yeah. Too much.
If its not broke, dont fix it. Have they changed the elevator trim? I find the wheel inbetween the seats a little personal when trimming. Nothing like rubbing your passengers whilst flying. Haha
@@SirDrifto It's one of the things I really liked about the "Tomahawk," the fuel selector is on the panel and very easy to reach.
Piper could have relocated the fuel selector to between both pilots below the throttle, as it was in the 235 Cherokee. But yeah, there are pros and cons. It would be more accessible for both pilots, but it could also be somewhat of a liability if the person in the right seat is a pax, not a pilot.
Personally I would prefer it there, between both pilots.
beautiful iron bird! ❤
People saying this is expensive are nuts, a F-150 is nearly 100k , planes were always expensive, the purchase price is nothing compared to ownership cost, but you wanna play you gotta man up and pay
I picked this plane up from the factory. Also delivered N509AM to KAPA, small world.
That's awesome. Super small world.
Does Piper have their own ferry pilots?
@@brettmarquez562 they have “demo pilots” who work in other departments at Piper who are also pilots. Not certain if they get to ferry much, because the brokerage I worked for at the time always took delivery of the airplanes from KVRB (Piper’s HQ). I’m assuming they would ferry it for you, but I have a feeling most people like to pick up their brand new airplane.
Sweet Plane! This would make a nice sweet first plane
Yea right. Going to get my lottery ticket.
Looks pretty much just like a 76 Archer with a new interior...except the 76 has a higher useful load
No head rests and no wheel pants------------for $410K? I started working on new Pipers at Lock Haven in the 1970s. $229K would have bought you a very nicely equipped Navajo Chieftain. A Super Cub was under $30K. Sad what the Federal Reserve and governments have done to the dollar eh?
I think it's because they charge an arm and a leg for all that computer stuff 😒😂
Flight schools don't want wheel pants. Easier for students to check brakes and for 100 hour inspections. I owned a 78 Warrior II. It did smell like grandma's house.
@@billfly2186 that smell is unforgettable 🤣
Costs of re-certification and liability have limited improvement options for certified aircraft. A few improvements for Piper aircraft that I think will never happen even at these prices:
The fuel selector should be relocated to the lower center console and given a "both" setting.
The flap/gear position should be indicated with a flag or window on the upper panel. The Johnson bar should have a sculpted grip and LED light (for use at night) to indicate flaps are deployed, ask me why.
A positive control lock that can be easily stowed away for flight, not by using the shoulder harness strap.
Wheel pants that allow for easy tire and wheel inspection and would also increase cruise speed and reduce fuel consumption, important for flight schools.
I could go on,
White leather or vinyl interiors get dirty real fast, a small headrest design would add an upscale touch. No pilot door on left side?
I think the real purpose here is to train pilots on the use of the G1000 system, standard now with most manufacturers.
@@bernieschiff5919 good points there 👌
My dream plane
I love that plane
Awesomesauce!!!! 🛩️🛩️🛩️🛩️🛩️🛩️
She's a nice bird
The newest plane I flew in when I first started as a kid was a 1986 P210N and it was 9 years old but it was nice.
Ridiculous to pay 400, 000 for Piper??????????????????
She's pricey 😳😂
Didn’t you see the price for a brande new Cessna 172? Near 500.000$
I thought that plane looked familiar in the thumbnail. I had an alternator failure in 810AM last week, it was my first solo out of traffic pattern....
Brand new and it already had an alternator failure? Dang
@@SirDrifto Apparently brand new planes have a tendency to have some goofy issues.
@@johncoyne9263 that's crazy man, glad you're ok 👍
The ol' bathtub curve, strikes again!
I cant believe anyone would buy a 400k Archer, other than a flight school. I mean really, manual flaps??
@@chuckmartin5773 the most expensive manual flaps 🤣
The guy failing to start the archer in front of the hangar multiple times 😂
The piper life 🤣
Mega nice ✈️✈️✈️✈️✈️
Where is this at? There's no planes in the shade ports!!! Here in Tucson, there's a wait list for a hundred years for hanger space.
I think it’s ridiculous that there is no hanger space in any location near civilization. Municipalities hate aviation. 🤦🏻♂️
for this price point buy a da-40
400,000+ and no hangar?
Priorities 👌😂
Piper has made it impossible for the private pilot to own one! Way way way too much money!!!!
During its production run, the Learjet 24 had the distinction of being the fastest and one of the cheapest business jets in the market. The flyaway cost for a Model 24 in 1970 was $989000.
Nice little plane, what was that hose you were messing with up front for?
It's used to pre heat the engine block on real cold days. Makes cold starts easier
What kind of engine preheater is that
Aerotherm engine heaters
It might be worth $100k..
I would be curious what the cost to build is
I like your car! In todays dollars they were $75,000 new… makes the plane seem inexpensive…
It comes with a G1000. That's almost $100k right there. I'd take a real plane over a Cessna any day
Yeah the g1000 is pretty awesome
The Cessna is a better plane. Way better. Double doors, bigger opening windows, better located fuel valve, the ability to land on unimproved strips, wings don’t depart on checkrides..
@@thomasaltruda It really depends though. Both Piper and Cessna have their pros and cons. Archers have a cheaper operating cost than the 172. Archers also are significantly more stable than a 172 is. I am not trying to argue in any way, but in my opinion they are about equal.
@@thomasaltruda what Cessna are you speaking of ?
@@the-bu3lb any comparable Cessna.. I think the 172 is comparable to the Archer, and although the Piper looks cool, the 172 in my opinion, is better! I just prefer the Cessna to the Piper. Although the experimental aircraft blow them all away!
We gonna fly or fuckin drive and talk all day??
KAPA!!
Yessir
We kept our Centurion in the last corner T-hanger right behind the plane you guys were flying. Used to fly w Aspen Flying Club too.
No keys ?
410,000 ??????? Sorry???
Lost me with the ASPEN backpack
Bad experience eh?
Yes many failures
Haaa...one won't start.....for 410 grand?????
Hey I’ve fueled that plane
I’m glad you did, we didn’t run out of fuel,
190 in the pattern, on AP? LOL - the Cirrus can't fly at 1000 AGL 190kts.... unless it had a massive tail wind.
I've been told it was more like 160kts
I must have missed that.. 190 knots? Lol
According to ADSB data from the day in question it was more like 140 to maybe 160kts.
Priced way out of general aviation. Redicilous.
