I have said it before, and you just keep proving me right. You sir, are the best CFI on the Internet, no one even close. Your passion for your students shows.
This was me last week. I did 4 go arounds that day because my airspeed was too high. This week - finally fixed the excess speed. I should solo this Monday! Great content Lew!
this trick for holding the nose level until it drops away has really helped me... in flight sim. It helps to get in practice going in full power, with no flaps, into a super long runway, (which I know is so against sop irl but this is a simulator) and I just float down the runway until the plane tells me it wants to land, and then I pull back to keep the attitude right and have a really smooth landing
Lew, Thank you soooo much for all your videos. I just completed my 1st solo today, and your videos have helped me a lot, especially with my confidence and my landings overall. Thank you so much for your videos and content. I will definitely recommend you and your vids to anyone who wants to watch good, entertaining content, and even with the disclaimer, educational. Thank you again mate!
Hit this point where it just clicked over the last two days of lessons and this video was one of the things I thought of. Another thing you've said in a few videos about not giving up and fighting for your landing all the way to the runway also stuckin my head. Appreciate your videos.
That’s great to hear.. It’s almost like a mental block and once you get a couple of decent landings under your belt it’s starts to snowball. All starts with the one flight that it clicks though. Congrats!
I was making this same mistake in my landings yesterday and today I'm looking for every explanation, tip and viewpoint I can find and this definitely resonated.
jeez i miss flight school when watching this. no better start in an aviation career than a good time during training :) some are good instructors, some are nice guys, Lew is the best of both worlds :)
Working on my landings in an archer II, this is very helpful to see someone else doing it. I also dig the atmosphere of the cockpit. Thanks for posting!
@@LewDixAviation If you were based in Austria, I would totally go with you for my upcoming PPL! Continue with what you're doing, you're amazing! This is how learning is fun!!!
Lewis ma man, just wanted to thank you for maybe the greatest landing tip(the part where you said keep it level until the nose wants down) it made my landings consistent.Respect from Serbia!
I can relate to this! I started training 3 weeks ago, and last week we started circuits. I've been progressing pretty fast through the material, and I was expecting the same with landings although I faced lots of difficulty with flaring. My instructor and I worked on it in the circuit for a while and I made plenty of hard landings. The next flight and about 2 bad landings in, it randomly clicked with me and I was able to make 3 pretty good landings in a row. I should be going solo in the next 2-7 days!
Some times I feel it’s a Comedy sketch rather than flying lesson... great work.. well that what Flying should be exactly like- Having FUN & ENJOYING every minute of it!!! 😁😁😁👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼
One thing I notice is move part of your hand is on the mixture control. You could accidentally pull the mixture and loose the engine. Not good if you get to low or need a go around.
When I get my plane and myself back at KZPH .... I would love to fly with you!!! I am finishing my Sport Pilot and Gyro here in Oregon. Love your videos and I plan to continue to my PPL. I always climb out establish positive rate and clear of obstacles then pull flaps out on go arounds.
The ultimate confidence booster for a student pilot? Looking to the right and seeing an empty seat…. (Or in my case of first learning in a Cub, having an unobstructed view of the basic flight instruments)…
Love your videos, I am on my PPL journey and take inspiration from your content. Yesterday was my 2nd attempt on circuits and after 6 very bad T&G my last 2 started to come together. Must admit not the easiest aerodrome for this exercise (Elstree, UK), especially with a crosswind, but will persevere. Any tips would be appreciated, still super nervous with landings!
Great video Lewis! I was watching a series of another CFI who got his tail wheel endorsement, and he was saying how it gave him a different perspective with his instruction. Have you ever looked at learning tail wheel? I think it would be interesting to see those videos
Meh, glad to see you guys are flying... good old Blighty weather and now the tier 4 lockdown have pretty much grounded me just as I was about to do my skills test... Safe landings and a kick a** 2021!
Fantastically useful for me for tomorrows take off and landings - i love that checklist on a single card - my school has a multi page A5 folder to look through - is that a custom checklist or a third party one ? 🎉
Glad you found it useful. The checklists I make custom. They are the best checklists I’ve ever used. You can get one from my website: lewdixaviation.com/products/lewdix-aviation-checklists
Great to see this video. I finally started my flying after lockdowns and finishing exams back in March. Yes I am learning in a C172... a diesel one at that 😳 but I did want to let you know I had two separate people sit in the back during my lessons the other day (they both fly motor gliders, low wing) and both of them, separately, un prompted, said how much they liked the high wing Cessna because they could see down 😜😂😂 it made me laugh and automatically think of you 🤣🤣🤣
Was the same for me. Once I realized I had to KEEP pulling back and KEEP the airplane off the ground until ALL of the airplane's energy was gone and the airplane had no choice but to come down...then my landings got much smoother. Two signs you are doing it right: the stall horn is going off and the control yoke is all the way back when the wheels touch down.
Any advice on how I get consistency I’m doing my ppl and flying a 152 some days landings are perfect and my instructor is happy for me to solo other days like today I had three hours back to back lessons hoping to do nav and cross country and after a few circuits and bad landings ended up doing circuits for three hours with all bad landings very angry about it tbh
Really enjoy the videos Lewis. Maybe a lil too much goofing around... But all in all, good videos. Especially liked this one because I am at the same crossroads on my landings in my training. Wish you were my instructor. You complement your students so much and that builds confidence. I don't get that. Everything is, your doing this wrong... You need to do this more...etc etc. Keep the videos coming. Great job.
I remember when my landings clicked...like warm butter on toast. My question is, what's with your student using his right hand to active the PTT at the 5:34 mark? Now that's weird. Do you know what's weirder...watching a Depends commercial while watching this. Some genius marketer coupled landing a plane to s**ting in your pants...haha.
Naw, if you take the aviation industry too seriously you will not enjoy it. They keep focus during critical phases of the flight though which is the important thing.
I feel sorry for the people that get upset at us having fun while we fly. Why would you ever want to be in a stern, uncomfortable training environment?
@@LewDixAviation totally agree! I think I can speak for 95% of us when I say that the reason we like aviation is that it's so much fun! Why should we make an effort to make it less so?
