    great video mate,the kit is looking fantastic and the etch is making this old kit into a ripper,also the heads up on the construction issue is very handy and love the painting method you are using and would love to see how you make the trees and snow effect
    keep up the great work

      Thanks Matt. I got to cheat with the trees as the kit I used had a couple of ready made ones and they were the right scale. Appreciate the feedback on the video. I chatted through this one a lot more then I usually do. Dan

      I was on one of my spending sprees (ask the wife) and came across it on the Ammo website. Works really well for me. Guessing the mix is a bit hit and miss, because each paint brand has a different result, but like I said in the video, you can always apply multiple coats or adjust the ratios as you go. Ammo have a small 17ml bottle of the stuff for sale if you ever want to try it. Thanks for watching. Dan

    Great seeing you moving along with this classic. I thought the engineering relative to the date it was made excellent too. alas mine is sitting on the shelf half complete after an inspired weekend last year. definitely needs to be in a diorama with snow.

      @DansModelBench  6 лет назад

      Hey Mike. Good to hear from you. You'll have to finish her. Its a nice build. Snow diorama is done and I'm struggling on the painting of the figures at the moment. Still got a lot to learn about doing that. Dan

      Ok update. Snow diorama is not done. Wasn't happy with it, so planning V2 for next week. Have to make some new trees first.

    Well I see you're making way more progress than me on the 7/1, I've been working on other projects so the time stamp is kinda slow. I like how Tamiya made the seats, they look very accurate. Just for your info, the box next to the seat was the battery box and the 2 cylindrical pieces you showed were not the fuel tank they were the compressed air tank the real vehicle had 3). The real fuel tank sat above the tranny on brackets.
    On the real 7/1s, the seat back folded up to accommodate being able to target ground targets without fowling the crew area, in subsequent series (2, 3) halftracks, they modified the gun platform so it could be raised higher without compromising the integrity of the firing platform.
    Enjoying the build, thanks for posting.

    • @DansModelBench
      @DansModelBench  6 лет назад

      The air tanks makes sense, so it looks like mine must run on fresh air, cause I don't think it had a fuel tank! Things have slowed up on it a bit because I'm not a figure painter by any means and that has been frustratingly slow progress to get them even halfway decent. Also glued the gun at the wrong angle for one of the figures. Oh well, you'll see what I mean in the next video. Work this last two weeks has been very busy, but I have some leave coming up and hope to finish it soon. Its a good kit, but my inexperience with building AFV does show in a few places. All part of the fun and the learning.

      I would say you're doing a great job, and good work on the PE, I find if you sand the PE (obviously on larger pieces) it glues better.....I'm not a big fan of Eduard PE for armor but I do like their Zoom cockpit PE sets. I hear ya about the figgies.

    Please don't take it the wrong way Dan, but I've never seen distance markers/poles on the fenders like on your kit in any photos. Not sure what Eduard was thinking but they look a bit odd. Up to you of course to leave them or not, just pointing it out.
    Looking great!

    • @DansModelBench
      @DansModelBench  6 лет назад

      No offence taken and no I haven't seen markers like it either. Actually its been bugging me, but I've fitted them now. I've been thinking about adding a glob of white glue to the top of them and painting that white when it dries, which should help things a bit. You are right though and if I was doing the kit over, I would have stuck with the kit parts for that. What I should have fitted, but didn't was the gun rack on the side of the half track. I didn't have any clear pictures at the time and Eduard's instructions weren't particularly clear. That and being a bit over fitting photo-etch by that time in the kit, sealed its fate. Of course as soon as I had painted and weathered the kit, I came across a picture that had a clear view of how and where it was fitted! Always the way. In the end not a lot of German half tracks had a giant Phillips head screw underneath holding the rear suspension together, but mine does! So there are a few scale discrepancies in the kit, shall we say. :)
      Dan

      @milky55way2012 6 лет назад

      I wouldn't worry about the gun racks, they removed them on later versions anyway. Keep it going! Nice to see this one built up it allows a little comparison to the Trumpeter kit I'm doing. The real negative about the Tamiya kit is the tracks to me but you did a great job painting them.
      I also agree with you on Panzer Gray, it was quite dark in reality maybe with a touch of Blue, but it's quite hard to tell looking at colorized videos as the process is an approximation anyway.

    Enjoying the video- I just wondered, when using the AK Gun metal for the exhaust, did you find the wash brought it off? Ive got a full set of the AK metal finish in tubes, and they brush on great, but I find if I use any type of wash- for instance, MIG's dark wash, it lifts it straight off.

    • @DansModelBench
      @DansModelBench  5 лет назад

      G'day Thunda65. Glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, using washes over the AK Metal is a problem. Before using a wash over these, I would first seal them with a varnish, like AquaGloss from Alclad or AK-Interactive Gauzy Shine Enhancer. Both are designed to work with metal finishes and will protect the paint, but leave them a good while to dry thoroughly before proceeding. Since I wasn't worried about the shine like I might on a natural metal aircraft I glossed the model all over with the Alclad AquaGloss, then applied the washes to the truck body and finally sprayed on a coat of Alclad Matte over the whole model. This dulled the exhaust, but that didn't matter anyway and looked more realistic. Next I used Lifecolors Rusty Pigment and paint set. I masked off around the exhaust and spray painted the exhaust with some rust coloured paint colours and then dabbed the pigment from the same set, straight onto the paint before it dried. Dan

      @@DansModelBench Hey Dan- thanks for the reply- guess thats what Ill do next time. As you say, its a great product to use (I use the steel and the aluminium for dry brushing highlights alot) but will have to remember to seal it down before using washed- your exhaust looks great. Im planning to do this kit soon. I usually do 1/32 aircraft, but recently did the RYE 1/35 Tiger so Ive got a bit of an armour bug now! Thanks again- Dan(too!)

      Its a Eduard photoetch set I got from BNAModelWorld. I checked today and they don't have it in stock, but Eduard themselves still do. You can find it here: www.eduard.com/Eduard/Photo-etched-parts/Photo-etched-set/AFV/1-35/Sd-Kfz-7-1-Flakvierling-1-35.html

      Dan's Van Diemens Land Model Bench maybe you should buy die cast figures that matches the scale of the model
