    I'm a plastic kit builder but last year I bought a few die cast aircraft at an estate sale. I nearly bought a B-17 but I hesitated because a young boy asked his dad to buy it. Sadly there were many more die cast that didnt attract interest and I couldn't afford to buy them. Mostly airliners.
    This model appeals to me because I knew a pilot who flew 44-8148 in the 418th BS. On or about November 22 1944 his Fort was shot up on a mission to Hamm, and he barely made it to Belgium. I think 8148 made it back to be scrapped. And I once visited Walnut Ridge Arkansas where some Fortresses were scrapped 😢
    Always wanted to build a model of his B-17 but his memory of what it looked like was hazy and I couldn't find any pics. In fact he thought it was camouflaged. But it would have looked very much like this model except for the s/n and individual id letter. He was a dedicated Christian so 8148 was devoid of pinup artwork.
    Mr Seamans passed away a few years ago before I could honor him with a model of that tough old Fortress that brought him back -barely!

      Wow, thank you so much for sharing this with myself and everyone on the channel. I used to build plastic models, had hundreds of unmade kits before selling them and going into classic cars. Now my body is broken,haha I can't muck around with cars anymore so selling them and moved my hobby back to military and other diecast things. Less chance me hurting myself with small scale items,haha. My patience, eyes and fat fingers prevented me from going back to buikding plastic kits again,haha. Airliners are not really anything, but there seems to be a huge fan base for that type of thing. Those B-17's were pretty tough birds, seen some amazing pictures of what made it back. Some B-17's did have a camouflage scheme painted on them I think I've seen one done in diecast, but yes usually they are bare metal or the olive colour. Although I'm Australian my family is originally from Germany so my oma and mum was on the receiving end of the bombers unfortunately. She still recalls it, she's in her late 80's now. War is not a great experience no matter what side your on. Thanks again for taking the time to comment and watch the video. I appreciate it. 😀👍

    Wow, beautiful! That green one would have been spectacular, but I know you know that 😉

      Haha Yeah. I prefer the painted aircraft over the unpainted finish. The painted bombers actually had a slightly better performance over unpainted ones 🤣. But I'll eventually get my sausage fingers on one 😉

      Wow thank you so much. I and give my honest opinions and most of the time I am seeing the model for the first time while making the video. I'm no expert, just a bloke collecting stuff,haha. I really appreciate the feedback. 6 months ago I didn't even know how to make a video, let alone put it on RUclips, haha. Who said and old dog can't be taught new tricks. Thanks again for the kind words mate. Cheers 😀👍🇦🇺

    How's the view inside the plexiglass parts? How are details? is it possible to show it?

    • @heavymetaldiecast
      @heavymetaldiecast  Год назад +1

      Not really much detail inside the aircraft, very hard to see much through the windows, unlike Corgi which usually have pilots or crew etc this does not have any of those extra details. Thanks for checking out the video and taking the time to comment. Cheers
