This small project completely surprised me, can not believe how well this diy process worked!
How to plasti dip rims (remove)
Plasti dip car removal
Thank you for watching!
Thanks brother. Watched your video. Order product on Amazon. Had plasti-dip on my Tacoma fenders that were peeling off. Sprayed Goo Gone and it started bubbling. Started wiping it off because i was too lazy to get out my power washer. Sprayed more on and let it sit overnight and hit it with the power washer in morning. Shazam, worked awesome. You’re the best.
Hell yeah man!
Thank you for the video. Went this morning to the auto supply and bought a bottle and it worked like magic. After spending hours trying to remove it dry, I did the 2 last wheels in about an hour. Glad you did this video, saved me a lot of time.
That’s Awesome! 👍
Thanks! I had a light coat on the chrome sections of my tacoma grill. I used the standard goo gone and got the same great results. Videos like these really reduce frustration! Thanks
That’s Awesome, thank you for watching!
@@BRock86 Just used the info at lunch today... Helpful, had limited time!
The power washer worked great for me after letting the Goo gone soak for 20 mins
I used paint thinner s6001 and it work really good.
Just did this, thank you for the video...BUT...I recommend you peel off what you can before spraying, it saves you a whole lot of elbow grease.
That is excellent advice! Thank You
Thank the lord a product that actually works!!! Appreciate ya brother
Thank you for watching! 👍
I dont know why the makers of plastidip tell you is so easy to peel off when its not. I ve decided to paint my wheels with regular paint. I discovered that engine paint is much better and tougher that this and regular auto paint. I painted a spare wheel black with engine paint and boy does it look awesome and the paint is so strong couldnt even scratch it with my nail. Cant wait to do all four wheels in my car.
Yeah Plastidip is really only good if you know your gonna remove it in a year or so. Great idea with the engine paint, I wish they made more colors tho.
Whats nice about plastidip is you dont have to mask anythink off. It peels easily but you need like 5-8 heavy coats and only really works on flat surfaces. Engine paint is a good idea. I didn't know it was tough like that
Plastidip is a good product.....BUT. NOT FOR WHEELS. Yet most people use it for their wheels. If you are going through the process of dipping your wheels you may as well paint them. 3 to 4 coats of paint and 2 coats of clear. Much better result and yes, easier to clean brake dust from paint. Plasti diped wheels over time do not clean up well. JUST PAINT THEM.
Great advice! 👍
Thanks for this information, I had to do my Jeeps roof because plastidip was sprayed on over old oxidized paint.
I thought it would never come off but Goo Gone worked perfectly.
Got the 24oz bottle, sprayed it on the entire roof, waited like 15-20 minutes then power washed it right off, the plastidip was literally turned to liquid.
Need a Plastidip remover, this is the answer.
Thanks for sharing.
That’s Awesome!
Thanks bro! Saved me big time on effort, cost, and NOT using potentially dangerous chemicals.
My pleasure man, thank you for checking it out!
Dude I tried other things and THIS saved my rims and stopped the headache I was having because of it. Thank you!
Of course 👍, thank you for watching!
Thanks for making this video, just bought an used 2015 mazda 6 and the rims we're very poorly plastidiped, I'm glad I watched this video, you helped me saving $$, as I was going to buy later the cleaners that sell in auto parts shops.
That’s awesome, congrats on your new car!
Nothing but praise for this method! I started by pressure washing the rims to get off as much plasti dip as I could. Then, I used this method, and boy did it work. Just make sure to use a very generous amount of the automotive goo gone and you should be good to go. Thank you for the life saving video!
Excellent! I’m glad it worked so well for you. Thank you for the comment.
And thank you for the video! I seriously can't express enough how thankful I am for it 😂
Love the color of the finish I have the same problem with a set of rims I bought and am firing to buy this goo gone Thanks
Profanity is for when an intelligent word evades you. Great work , video was very helpful. Your the best ,regardless of what your friends say.
Thank you so much!!. I plasti dipped my A pillar and mirror back about a year ago. It would not come off for anything this stuff worked lile a dream
That’s awesome man! Thank you for watching and plz consider sharing this video. 😀
Invest in a pressure washer. I did the 8 coats so mine was really thick and i didnt spray it with anything, just held the hose to a spot until it peeled and then it practically folded off. Took about 6 mins per wheel and no wiping/towel waste.
It was good you did 8 coats. If it is too thin it doesn’t peel off in big pieces.
Thanks for the video man! Wish I would have watched it a day earlier XD. I bought a gallon of dip disolver for 80$, as I have to disolve it from an entire Audi A5. Definitely going to pick up a bottle of this to start with first!
Thanx for watching! Good luck on the project
For really old plastic dip that feels like it won’t come off don’t try Goo gone. I tried it and nothing worked. I tried soaking it for an hour and nothing. Instead I tried Goof Off Pro Strength remover. It may sound the same but it’s not. It did the job pretty good, enjoy.
Thank you for the advice
I need some help I have white powercoated wheels that have a layer of green spray paint over them with black plastidip over that. Is there anyway for me to take off both the plastidip and green paint to get back to the white powdercoat? Thanks
Start with the plastidip and see what happens. You might have to get more aggressive with the spray paint.
B Rock 86 suggestions on what to use? I’m not sure how strong powder coat is against like acetone.
Test it on a small area. Gasoline works good too
You my man are my hero. Thank you so much!
🤘
Never used it , but think it may not chip as bad as paint on chrome window trim, is it best to put on thicker, than thinner?
Yes, that was one of the big mistakes I made when applying the plastidip. It will be much easier to remove if it is thicker
Thank You! Great video!
+robert delacerda Thank you for watching!
Ok, so I was young and dumb (2 years ago) and plasti dipped my hood and then decided not to finish. I plan on getting the hood paint matched, but if I use this will it take the paint on my hood off? The hood is painted a different color than the rest of my car underneath the plastidip.
It says it is safe for use on automotive surface like body paint. There have been lots of people in the comments that have had good results on large panels of there cars. Thank you for watching!
Wow. Sprayed this on all 4 wheels of plastidip that been on I'd say 2 years.. and bout 5-10 minutes later not even 30 min. And saw it bubbling. Power washed it. And literally seconds later ALL OFF..
Perfect! 👍
Does this work on body parts? I have a hood that I want to save the paint on
It should, the goo gone is rated for automotive proposes.
glad you put this video up, i have some goo gone in my pantry. the "professionals" are pretty much just trying to get you to buy their home made (probably inferior) product, when they said the main ingredient was a citrus based degreaser it immediately made me think if goo gone would work
+John Sullivan thank you for watching! I have tried several other degreasers and none of them have had the same results. Good luck with your project.
Nice job! Thanks! I have to clean a whole pick up truck with this. Hope it works.
+Billy Melgar Thanx man! Yeah it def works. Good luck with the truck.
B Rock 86 The goo gone worked but it ran out quick. I was doing a full-size GMC Sierra. So I ended up buying a can of xylene at Home Depot for around 20 bucks. My whole weekend was shot but I got most of it off. I'm going to take another day & use the goo gone to do the detail work and get it 100% clean. That xylene was stronger than the goo gone but its pretty potent sh%t to be breathing in. Either way taking this sh%t off an entire truck really sucked!! 👎plasti-dip😡
Hey, thanks for the vid. Is one 24oz bottle enough for 4 wheels that are slightly thicker than your wheels? Also, is it safe to do with wheels on the car?
+Jigar my pleasure, thank you for watching man! Yeah one bottle is plenty. I did all four wheels and still had two thirds left. You can do it with the wheels on the car but be careful not to get it on the brakes. Also I wanted to make sure to get all of it off inside the lug but wells.
Do you know if will that work in a whole car without damage the original paint?
Or how can I take off a old/thin plasti dip?
It should work just as well on a whole car. The product is designed to be able to help remove residue from stickers and other things like bug guts lol. Never had it harm paint before but you can always test it on a small, less conspicuous panel first. Thank you for watching! I hope this helps.
@@BRock86 I will do that, I will try in a small panel first and see how that going. Thanks
You saved me hours
Thank you for the video man! Helpful for sure. I recently got a G37 and the rims were plasti dipped black and it’s peeling like crazy. Wasn’t sure what product to use but I’m going with goo-gone now!
For sure, thank you for watching and good luck with the rims 👍
Says on the bottle not
to use on rubber. Did you have any trouble with your tires later?
No trouble at all 👍
Thanks so much dude. Have you tried this on paint do you know if it's safe to use to remove the bullshit stripe across the hood or will I ruin my paint in the process
Yeah I have used the product many times on various applications and it is safe to use on paint.
@@BRock86 sweet thanks for the info man I really detest this Plasti dip stuff it looks so ghetto
Yeah I think the days of Plastidip are over lol
@@BRock86 I agree. Can't believe people thought it was good thing to begin with.
Thanks for posting 😎👍
Thank you for watching! 🤘
Trying this today !
Works Left it on for 30 min Pressure Washed 90% of it and went spray it again and used a microfiber towel to get the rest. Thanks !
@PokeSleepDeals That’s awesome!
thanks worked great
Great video
Thanx Ben!
Thanks for the tip.
My pleasure, Thank you for watching 😀
He is nothing but tip lol jk
I tried this on my 2000 Ford Mustang wheels some dump ass kid tried to tuner it out and plastic dipped the wheels black and the two bumpers and the rockers leaving the rest of the car blue I got all the plastic dip off finally and got my wheels to a nice aluminum clean finish giving my mustang that nice clean original muscle look (But in some areas it wasn’t that easy to get off more like the thic areas I left the goo gone sitting for about an hour after cleaning and pre soaking I started to wipe my wheels but ended up needing a fkn rugged plastic sponge which made the job faster
Excellent man! Thank you for the comment!
No problem bro thanks for the advice I wish I would’ve known of this idea when I hand peeled the rear bumper it was a pain in the ass I don’t think I mentioned that in my last comment but I used your method on the wheels and rockers works great thank for the video again

Good info , I hope it works 🤞
Thank you for watching, good luck! 👍
I discovered this on accident the other day my goo gone spilled
Lol 😏
Will the normal goo gone work ?? The normal adhesive remover goo gone ?
I’m not sure. I haven’t personally compared it but I would be interested to know the difference.
Is it safe for car paint
Yup
Great video! It worked!
Thank you Tim! Glad it could help 👍
I did the 7-8, but i sprayed too thin in some places
Yeah it seems like a lot of us have made that mistake
Thanks!
Thank you for watching!
Thanks for the video it helped me a lot!
Thank you for watching, glad it could help
I bought the very same exact Goo Gone. Waited a bit more than 30min. Doesnt “melt” like this at all. It can peel of a little bit but not at all like the video.
That’s interesting, I would try adding heat with a heat gun and see if that helps.
B Rock 86 Even with pressure washer only a few bits took off. But the plastidip was very thin. The previous owner of those wheels was greedy on the dip. Very thin layers. Best way i found is using 3M Adhesive Remover and acetone. Took more than 2 hours to do two wheels.
Is that the adhesive remover wheel or the spay?
B Rock 86 the 3M Adhesive remover spray can. I finished them alternating between acetone and the 3M remover. Took over 3:30hours to do the 4 wheels.
Awesome. Thank you for the comments. I know it took a little while but now you can move on to the next project. 👍
What if you spray it then power wash it will you still get the same results???
I’m sure that would be fine also. At the time I wanted a method that didn’t require a pressure washer.
Hi what if it's a tick layer mine well let me say previous owner dipped it but it's very hard to remove it's pelling in piece by piece.
+Abram Brown thank you for watching! it will still work but you will probably have to do more than one coat.
So I bought goo gone and just used it I wasn’t able to take of my tires but I guess I’m using the wrong one 😂😭
Jet Spray - Gumout Carb/Choke Cleaner does the trick
Would this affect the car paint if I dipped my entire car?
Good question. I really don’t think so, the product is designed specifically for automotive purposes. With that said use at ur own risk lol.
That would be a nice color if they were powdercoated
Agree 👍
Looks like Kyle from Life OD! 😂
WILL DO THIS RIGHT NOW BRO, LET YOU KNOW HOW IT WORKED ON MY CAR...
For sure man!
@@BRock86 WORKED LIKE A CHARM MAN!! THANK YOU!!!
That’s Awesome!
don't use a wire brush! use a nylon bristle brush.
The coolest part is that i got the same wheels lol
No shit?! That’s dope!
What's the products
Goo Gone
Need a mic. Can’t understand half you say
Thank you for watching Jonothan. This was one of my earlier videos and I have a new camera and mic setup now.
Liquid wrench silicone spray by far better! Eats plasti dip!
I will give it a try
saved me 30$ nice thank you
That’s awesome! Thank you for watching 😀
Anybody try it with the pressure washer? How’d it turn out?
I spent 3 hours trying to get mine off!! I’m using this next time!! I had to have someone professional get it off for me! I’m getting goo gone tomorrow!! I used goof off
Gasoline works best and per amount is the cheapest
Fuck ya, awesome vid.
Kerosene works better. I used goo gone and it was still a pain in the ass
Does it work better than regular gasoline?
500th like thank you very much f*** that 30 bottle I'll go with the 7!
Hell yeah! Thanx man!
Nah man thank you I got a Acura TL Type-S and somebody plasti dipped the nice waffle rims and after watching your video it actually gave me hope of getting it off since they put it on to thin. I tried one little spot with brake cleaner and I didn't like the way it came out even if the bronze is it on the other side of the Plasti dip at least it'll be down to bare metal aluminum and look a lot better than that dusty ass thin black. 👌👌👌
That’s awesome!
I have a Scion tC too with bad ass pasti dio job on the rims 🤮
Nice! 👍
Thumbs up! Pain in the ass averted.
Glad I could help man. Thanx for watching!
I hate plasti dip- fucken hard to remove
Yeah, I will never use it again
plastidip = goo
Dip dissolver was shit
Rubbing Alcohol is cheaper.
+CarGuy does it have the same effect? I will give it a try next time.
No it doesnt work near as well
I hate plasti dip.
Lol I agree
@@BRock86 thanks for this video. Now I can go fix my problem.
Of course, thank you for watching and good luck with your project
