We are always incredibly grateful for any support given however small and will thank you with a special mention at the end of our next video.
Thanks for watching..
All the best Em and Stu 😊
Really enjoyed watching this.
I live in Bungay.
My grandfather served at this airbase and my grandmother worked in the canteen on the airbase.
Sadly, he left in April 1945 to go home back to America, never knowing my grandmother was pregnant with twin boys.
During the summer months I often take a bike ride around that area, passing the memorial. I normally stop and take 5 minutes sitting on the bench thinking about what happened there back then.
Thanks
It's a fascinating place to visit with so much history to explore still.. Thanks for sharing your story with us, its always nice to hear from people who had a connection to the place. 😊👍
@@ExploringWithEmAndStu You're welcome. WW2 is such an interesting piece of history
Talking with my cousin I learned that my uncle flew B-24s out of that airfield. There is also the Bungay Buckaroos B-24 nearby me in a museum.
It's surprising the amount of people who contact us with stories of their family members who had connections and memories of these places.. Always nice to hear, thank you 😊
My father served in Bungay he was an RAF corporal attached to US Army Air Force , he watched the B24 Liberators take of on bombing raids and return very badly damaged the Liberators tail Gunners coming of worst badly shot up and with a high casualty rate
Interesting video guys 😎
These places should preserved for future generations.
All the best
😊🍻👍🏻
Thanks for watching.. it would be nice to see more of them saved as they've such am important history. 😔
Amazing, my grandfather was a USAAF B24 Liberator pilot of the 446th BG 706th Squadron... Thank you
Always great to hear from people with history of their family members who served from the airbases here, thank you so much for taking the time to watch our video and comment, always very much appreciated and for the service your Grandfather did. Thank you 😊👍
Cool, well done guys, keeping the memory of these places alive as they recede into time.
Thanks, we love recording these places before they are probably lost forever, we feel its important to have some sort of record. Thanks for watching 😊
So much history in those remaining buildings. Yes, if buildings could talk...thank you for your exploration of this site. Had not known of it before seeing this come up on a random Facebook suggestion.
Thanks Roger, it's surprising how many local people we have spoken to who didn't even realise so much was still left of these old airbases.. Thankfully they are finally starting to receive the recognition they deserve and people are starting to campaign to preserve them. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment 👍🙂
Just found your channel. Instant sub - thanks for taking the time to make these videos.
Thank you. We appreciate you watching and for your sub.. Welcome to the channel 😀👍
Excellent video thanks. Didn't realise some of those buildings were still standing. The ducting in that Norden store is super rare and needs preserving.
Thanks David, we really had no idea what we were going to find when we went out exploring the area that day but were quite excited to find so much.. Let's hope some of it is saved before its lost forever.. 👍
Very interesting as usual - some substantial remains there - love the way nature is slowly reclaiming the buildings. Thanks for sharing your travels and keeping the history alive 👌🏻
Thanks for watching and commenting. There's a fair bit more but alot on clearly private land which we're gonna try to get permission to visit with any luck 🙂
Really enjoyed this glimpse of the past.
Thanks Ray, we really enjoyed filming this one, one of our favourite sort of places to explore.. Hopefully we'll be doing a few more around the area this year. Thanks for watching as always 😊

Thanks Guuny, we're really glad you enjoyed it and appreciate your feedback 😊👍
Enjoyed watching that. Nicely edited and presented!
Thanks Simon, alot of work went into it. Really glad you like it and appreciate you taking the time to watch 😊👍
Hi Emma and Stu’...
Very nice video. Keep doing what you’re doing. Our wonderful and proud regional history as the home to so many operating USAAF airbases during the war deserve to be preserved and recorded by enthusiastic hunters like yourselves. I had the pleasure of meeting you both when you visited our museum at Flixton and thoroughly enjoyed our chat. Please do come again. It would be good to see you both again. Keep up the good work and maintain the obvious passion. All the very best...
Thanks for your lovely comment Alan. It was really nice meeting and chatting to you at the museum, we really enjoyed visiting and will certainly be back again in the future. As you can see we are very passionate about preserving the history of these places and the people that served in them for our country. One day alot of these structures will be gone but hopefully we can help the memories of them to live on.
We really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment on the video and glad you liked it. All the best Em and Stu.
Very informative as always guys! Lots of interesting bits in the woods, we are off to explore it this weekend hopefully 😊
Definitely worth having a hunt around in the woods, quite abit to find.. Thanks for watching, glad you found it interesting 😊👍
I do love an abandoned airfield! Lovely explore both. I hope all is well with you. Ben
Hi Ben, we are keeping well thank you, hope things are good with you? Glad you liked this video, lots of editing lol.. Thanks for watching 😊 👍

Hi Em and Stu,another great and interesting video from yourselves.Thank you once more for highlighting one of these such important historic sites.I try and visit as many of these old airfields as poss also before sadly they are demolished for good and mostly turned into yet more housing estates! If only the few surviving buildings that you both visited could talk and tell of the stories of the brave men and women that served here many years ago.Keep up the good work you two.
Regards Simon 👍
Yes absolutely that's exactly why we like to visit these places to try and document them and tell their story before they are completely lost forever, alot of these buildings were so overgrown with ivy that we struggled to even see them so one doubt they'll unfortunately fall down or be demolished eventually.. Glad you liked our video, we appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment 🙂
...hi there! ...just discovered your channel and have subscribed ...very nicely put together vid., i'm deffo going to be checking out your others! ... i used to live around Beccls ...cheers...
Hi, thank you do much, really glad you enjoyed the video. We're hoping to return back to the area again soon as there's definitely still more to find.. Welcome to the channel 😀👍
nice seeing this place a few years on from when i went... you deffo covered it better than me :D And know alot more about the place haha
Thanks Ben, most of these places were build very similar and so once you've seen one and figured out what you're looking at the rest are quite easy lol.
@@ExploringWithEmAndStu hahaha deffo !! as always really enjoyed the camera work and information !! Im excited to drop our videos together these coming weeks!
Hello, Em and Stu Another great video and so good to see other people interested in preserving the history of these sites. We have been looking around a few sites ourselves as part of a series we are filming called "Ghost Airfields". So much history and so many wonderful stories to share and we are trying, like yourselves, to bring these stories to life albeit in a completely different way...looking forwards to seeing more from you both ❤
Thanks, glad you liked it, as you can see we love exploring places like these and trying to record their history before its lost forever. Appreciate you watching and commenting 😊 👍
Very interesting and amazingly quite a lot still remains. So many former airfields are now repurposed or built over and nothing remains of them which is a shame.
Thats why we love exploring these places so much, they've so much important history that will no doubt be lost eventually. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment 🙂
A certain section of Bungay is earmarked for.. preservation! so I read the other day. The owners of that section of land, with buildings are agreeable to this..👍
Fantastic video guys, hopefully going here soon myself
Thanks.. Definitely worth a look!
Did either u manage to go to the old hospital in hales before it got changed? Another great video
No unfortunately not, is it not there anymore? Thanks for watching btw 😊
@@ExploringWithEmAndStu such a shame I was lucky enough to go there over 15 years ago one scary place at night that was for sure
This is a very good video,my name is Capt. Lloyd USAF I spent some years in England I would like some information about Bungay.
Hi there.. feel free to message us on our Facebook or Instagram and we'll see if we can help you.. 😊
My Father was a corporal stationed in Bungay in WW2 he was RAF personnel assigned to US Army Air force he saw the Liberator B24 bombers taking off on raids and returning very badly shot up , he said the Rear Turret gunners got very badly shot up and lot of fatalities
Going for an explore around here this weekend following watching your video. Are there walkways around where you can get to the forest area? 👍
Most of this video was filmed by walking the public footpaths from the village of Flixton and into the woods with just a few small diverts.. Parking is abit limited though, we parked in a large lay-by just up the road on the B1062 which is only a small walk to the centre of the village itself. Hope that helps abit and that you enjoy your walk 😊
@@ExploringWithEmAndStu brilliant! That’s really helpful, thank you. It’ll be nice to get out in the peace and quiet.
@@steverawling396 No problem, we did do another more recent video of a few more bits last year near the mushroom factory if you want to take a look..

Very interesting.
Thanks John, there's so much more to this site which we hope to explore in the near future. Thanks for watching 👍😊
@@ExploringWithEmAndStu I am also interested in visiting these former airbases.I have been a membe rof the 100Th Bombardment Museum for over 25 years now & I have visited quite a few bases.
@@johnpenn-symons5354 we'd love to get around as many as we can to see what remains are left before its all completely gone.. 😔
do you need permission from the farmers to go exploring at Bungay & also when you do find the buildings with the graffitti art work from ww2 please post a video ty.I belong to the 100Th Museum at Thorpe Aboots.there ar elots of buildings still around but dont think your allowed to go into the wooded area to search for them.
Hi Ed & Stu have u ever been to look around RAF Rivenhall? I am trying to find out about the new memorial not the one in the pub garden ty
