I remember finding sound system on youtube when I was like 12. I'm about a decade older and randomly decided to listen to the whole album, and I'm downright obsessed. The energy, the power of the lyrics, damn. What I would give to have been alive in the 80s, rocking out at the gilmore with these dudes

Haha! Same. We had this crazy ass quarter pipe with extreme vert. Our neighbor was a carpenter and made it for us. I remember we were so scared to drop down it. I just said, “you gotta lean forward and go for it.” This album and Chesire Cat was always playing in that driveway.
I just realized this is the only Op Ivy song with any sort of brass (unless one is slipping my mind). Funny how I never noticed how a ska band doesn't use horns.
For anyone who cares, the song is in the key of f major Guitar chords: Intro with ska strum- whole song is sorta ska strummed F major cmajor (Barre chords preferred) Verse Same as intro Chorus A sharp Fmajor Cmajor Fmajor (Also barre chords) Enjoy :D, and if it helped rep!
No, no more, hate, hate wars. I love Op Ivy and ska as much as I love HU and rock/hip hop. Isn't music and a song like this supposed to bring us together instead of debating who's better? I say, no... no more bad town!

Personally I just think this version has more feeling to it. You can feel the aggression and the actual almost anguish that Tim is trying to convey. HU just sounds like a cover of a song.
Me my oldest bro and my buddies painted this exact op ivy logo 8 feet round across my halfpipe in my backyard when I was 13 maybe 14 it was awesome...dad made us tear it down 2 weeks later smh
"My legs are dangling off the edge, the bottom of the bottle is my only friend, I think I slit my wrist again and I'm gone gone gone" There you go all you pre-teen Hollywood Undead fans some words to live by, by your favorite singer Charlie Scene! :)
Okay, I'm going to piss you all off (I bet) when I say why both versions are great: Operation Ivy (original) - No autotune, one take, real instruments, epic tenor sax solo, easy to play on trumpet (for me), and let's face it, a fun song. Hollywood Undead (cover) - Great guitar sound, closest cover to the actual song (compared to other band covers), brass sounds great (although synthesized), good vocals with Charlie Scene, and seems appropriate for today's era of music. Why both versions SUCK: You have the "HU4L" fans arguing with the Op Ivy fans, and if anyone says they like both versions, they get bombarded with hate from both sides, kind of like having two religious groups yelling at an atheist- Wait, what am I doing?! I can't start another argument on one argument! That's it, that's enough Internet for today. I shall await the hate comments. :D
+Charlie 5 Lives i like to have discussions with people that will act semi civil almost a pipe dream on youtube, the community is half idiot trolls, just saying not attacking ya here "closest cover to the actual song" but dont you want it to be different i hate when bands dont change it up enough all they are doing is piggy backing then, louie prima and louie arm strong both do When Your Smiling both great and both way different but i do agree with the line about seeming "appropriate for today's era of music" i just havent really liked much modern music for like 12 years :3

But its good to see other genres of music appreciating other styles and tastes. Love it all and respect, even if you don't like it, at least have the decency to respect it : )
@JustCallMeDeAng *brought* this song to life. "Brang" isn't a word. And the reason this song isn't well-known is because they wanted to keep the punk scene underground so it was closer to the fans.
@SouthardJon great response *Sarcasm*. im 16 and was introduced to op ivy when i was 3 by my bro Micheal. i dont have a job cause i live in Nevada now, a fucking wasteland with no forms of work except at casinos and you have to be 18 or over.

In my honest opinion, the hu version of this is soooooooo much better, it might be nostalgia from me listening to hu for so long and hearing their new covers it removes a feel from this original, but after hearing the hu version, then the original, the original sounds disastrous.
Lazy? Op ivy recorded this in a garrage in one take. Not because they were lazy, but because that's all they needed. They didn't have, need, or want a fancy businessman to give them money. They stuck to the DIY ethics of punk rock and that is why I choose garage recording sounds and vocals.
+Jason Shippy This was recorded in the 80's and in a garage, the other in a cushy recording studio, which one do you think is going to have better sound quality?

3rd wave doesn't necessarily mean punk ska. The slackers and hepcat are both 3rd wave
Oi!
Marley is reggae. Not ska. Desmond Dekker king of ska
Let's take a moment to appreciate that Op Ivy and Ska are the reason my parents got married and I'm here. Same with my HS band teacher and his wife.

tbh I listened to the Hollywood undead version and it sounded like new age garbage. it sounds like wannabe rappers sorry but my opinion tbh
