As a long time NO fan it's so nice to see what a nice guy Peter is. I saw the light in Birmingham last week in a small venue and they were fantastic. You can tell he really appreciates his fans.
New Order really are the perfect blend of tech and traditional instruments. Weirdo on Brotherhood has one of their best bass lines ever. They miss a big part of their sound without Peter Hook.
Nonsense about George Michael. On the program he sung Joy Divisions praises, named Closer and side 2 of the record being his favourite..he was a huge Joy Division/New Order fan. Poor research!
..and Morrissey even said that he supported Joy Division/factory new order (I can't exactly remember), hardly bad mouthing them although he did go on to talk down about Joy Division he had a long history with factory and no doubt loved Joy Division. Why would he go to see them play if he hated them? Sheesh!!
Yeah.... clearly she didn't watch the video. George said he was a fan but thought that their look and image was a bit contrived. That was the worst of what he said but tat he loved the music.
@EGS: Hooky said there was a long battle between The Smiths/Morrissey and JD/NO so I know it's true. Listen to the interview again. Regarding the News Presenter, well, she's obviously a moron I agree.
She got the George Michael/Morrisey tv show interview a bit wrong. Morrisey found JD uninteresting (as you might imagine he would) where as George Michael talked about how much he liked JD's second album, Closer, calling the second side of it one of his favorite albums musically....
Hey Chuck Desylva, I saw Peter Hook and the Light in November 2017 in Melbourne ( Australia ) and they were fantastic. Get close to the stage ( if you can ) because after the last song Peter Hook takes off his shirt and flings it into the audience. Back in the 90's I saw New Order live, that too was a musical highlight. I wish they would solve their grievances and record & tour again !
Peter Hook is a Rock n' Roll GOD . So are all the other members of Joy Division/New Order . It's only fitting that they're having this fight over money and ego .
The trouble is...they're both lovely people. Barney is an absolute gentleman and anyone from Salford will tell you what a great guy Hooky is. We fall out with people, of course we do. But sometimes? You have to heal old wounds and get back to what you do best. Steve Morris, Bernard Sumner and Peter Hook. And Ian (of course). But? I know you're lads from South Lancashire and we hold grudges...but for how long?
Just finished the book--really interesting. It's roughly 650 pages--I started it and finished it within two weeks. Captivating insights into the dynamics and day to day experiences between N.O. management, band members, and record label...not to mention all the drinking and drugging they (all) seem to have been involved in.
She needs to clean her specs. George Michael raved about 'Closer' on that programme. Mozza, on the other hand, went straight into inferiority mode, as always. Despite that, I love Mozza and his self-obsessed God complex, that only he believes in, and his wonderful persistence in making people feel uncomfortable. We really do need that. And George Michael is one of those mainstream pop stars that we only now realise how brilliant his mind was. There are very, very few of them.
It was complex. Ian took the heavy prescript drugs which are very dangerous anyway. And suddenly he became a cult star. It was very new to him, because before it they were just an amateur punk band playing in small clubs for dozen people. Its was hard to manage.
We'll never know for sure why he did it, he sounds like a really nice guy. He hid his depression well from the sound of it, to spare his friends. Complex is exactly the right word for it. I wonder would he survive today with better support and medicine we have. He left a lasting legacy.
I had the impression watching Control that Hooky was a bit of a moron, but his book changed my mind. He was a young guy, full of heart who was passionate about his music and seems down to earth. I loved the Unknown Pleasures book and look forward to reading this one.
Wow, Kennedy is still around.. Hmm, legendary Manchester ex-bandmates suing each other. From The Smiths from years past, and more recently New Order. Sad.. Music of my childhood (I'm in my early 40's..) I think it's Kennedy who inspired the Dinosaur Jr. song "feel the pain" in her very awkward interview with J Mascis decades ago.
For the record the program kennedy was talking about Morrissey in fact said he was not a big fan but at the end of the day he supports JD and George michael said he quite liked "closer" by JD
People are two they say money didn’t mine anything it’s all About the art When love will tear you apart and when they turn on you and when there gone never too come back fade to black
Well, with that logic, shouldn't you be looking at how the Angles in continental Europe would pronounce such a name? Looking around the world, England isn't such a large population of English speakers, so despite being the origin of the English language (even that's debatable), it's hardly representative of the average English speaker. England's population is about 1/6 of the U.S.A.'s, and of course there are more than just English and Americans out there in our English-speaking world.
No shit, but the language is derived from West and North Germanic languages with some latin influences, and it then became a full-fledged language of its own. pronunciation is subjective and variable, and dialects vary with location. To call a derirative form of a dialect of a derivitive form of a mongrel language just because there's a higher population of speakers over the nation of speakers in which the language originates is nonsense and smacks of a nationalistic superiority complex. So i'll leave that there.
Yeah, you WILL leave it there, because BerNARD is how you pronounce it as a normal speaker of English. Get with the programme. England is a tiny country which has lost its power. Half of Scotland doesn't even want to be joined to it. The world's English-speaking capital is Los Angeles, not Blackfriars or some dumbass boring fairy tale place in the Old World.
You seem like a good fellow, but joy division never would've never made it in the u.s. new order made it bc of Bernard. Dance, pre-edm, dance music is what made u all that success.
I'm kinda split. He does have some valid points, but ... he also seems like a jerk. Like when he says in the book that "Gillian was easy to ignore". Several times he knocks her, saying how she's a sub-par musician, don't know the reason she's playing off key etc. He doesn't say that about any other member of New Order. And all the Hook'isms, like "You can take the boy out of Salford, eh?". Most of them ends with an "eh?". What a drag.
These squeaky high pitched interviewers really get on my nerves! Anyway, nice to Peter being more of his age and not a swear word to be heard. Although I guess with all that infighting etc. perhaps it was borne out of frustration and stress.
Shes insufferable! When will interviewers realize noone cares to listen to them talk? Let the man speak....! She should do something bout that lisp too.
Crap interviewer. Terrible questions, wouldn't let him finish. Didn't listen to his responses at times. She is an embarrassment to Americans. Poor Hooky had to endure this. I'm American, from southern California and love Joy Division, New Order and beyond. ♡
It seems people that write a book afyer a breakup in music or politics are a bit bitter and have to get over their ego and make it work. and dont try to make money over someones misery and private stuff. Make music and stop b...ing, and revive the band.
What a gentleman you are Peter, thank you for the music over the years.
Yeah, he's a good lad. :-)
Peter is such a Cool and nice guy in person, so glad he plays and tours for us and continues, Play On Peter!!
I'd go so far as to say it's the best 'Rock n' Roll' book out there. Great job, Mr. Hook. Thanks.
As a long time NO fan it's so nice to see what a nice guy Peter is.
I saw the light in Birmingham last week in a small venue and they were fantastic. You can tell he really appreciates his fans.
Read Unknown Pleasures by Hooky and currently reading Substance. Both are funny and very sad. Recommended. Peter Hook is a very insightful, funny guy.
MrCrunkyteen Not read his hacienda book? It's the funniest out of all of them!!
Hooky’s bass style is so unique. Listening to him play bass never gets boring. And I’ve long enjoyed his interviews. Smart bloke.
New Order really are the perfect blend of tech and traditional instruments. Weirdo on Brotherhood has one of their best bass lines ever. They miss a big part of their sound without Peter Hook.

The reporter Kennedy likely had researchers who feed her details. Obvs, the researcher didn't watch the whole clip.
Scott M was he comparing the contrived image to Wham?
She got the George Michael/Morrisey tv show interview a bit wrong. Morrisey found JD uninteresting (as you might imagine he would) where as George Michael talked about how much he liked JD's second album, Closer, calling the second side of it one of his favorite albums musically....
Morrisey's a count who only finds himself interesting.
Morrissey was just jealous of Bernard cause Johnny Marr formed electronic with him
@@antthomas7916 Morrissey IS interesting and has written the best lyrics in musical history.
@@ドレンチェリー it was years later tho
@@cejannuzi both Moz and Marr blamed JD being primitive and dumb.
Hook looks in better health than he did 5 years ago.
omg is what I was thinking!
Like the original singer was a soprano, give me a break.
I think he looks better than he did in Joy Division
I think he either quit or cut down a lot on the drinking.
Maybe he's healthier....
Peter Hook and the Light! Can't wait to see them 5/21/2018 at the Ace of Spades in Sacramento!!!!!
Hey Chuck Desylva, I saw Peter Hook and the Light in November 2017 in Melbourne ( Australia ) and they were fantastic. Peter Hook is a Rock n' Roll GOD . So are all the other members of Joy Division/New Order . It's only fitting that they're having this fight over money and ego .
Inside New Order is a must read! It's definitely NOT boring!

He’s a charming egoist. He made great music regardless.
Hooky is one gorgeous man
All I saw where George Michael referenced Joy Division he was praising the last three songs on the bands second and last album Closer.
Ben chambers last 4
I learned how to play bass listening to Joy Division. What a horrible ending from people that inspired me.
a valued destiny comes to new order
"where have they been"...
He never took his life over fear of success, he did it because of his epilepsy battle and his marriage problems also.
It was complex. Ian took the heavy prescript drugs which are very dangerous anyway. And suddenly he became a cult star. It was very new to him, because before it they were just an amateur punk band playing in small clubs for dozen people. Its was hard to manage.

iamsheep Control made him look like a right bellend. He seems like a proper decent bloke
He's a manc , so he's definitely a sound guy
Hooky was a bit prick during JD days according Morris, BUT we has to know, there were tensions between middle class Morris and working class Hooky.
Its not,, NEW ORDER, without Hooky
Truth
Pun intended!
AGREED !!! just as Morrissey w/o MARR is a deal breaker for me ...
Without peter hook. New order is a new order cover band.
and the OJ will be back inside soon, 'cause he's insidiously brainless
Wow, Kennedy is still around.. Hmm, legendary Manchester ex-bandmates suing each other. From The Smiths from years past, and more recently New Order. Sad.. Music of my childhood (I'm in my early 40's..)

Failing in America!!!! What??? Everyone was stoked for that first big tour back in 1980.
Hooky is one of the greatest bassists ever.
hook is the hook of new order. we love peter hook
It is very sad to see Hooky alone without New Order, stupid fight.
they will get back together, they are my favorite non Python people on the planet
apart from Curtis' voice, and Hannet's spacy production, Joy Division's MVP was Hooky's bass!
unadulterated legend, no one person has done more to keep ian's legacy prevalent than hooky.
I’ve been reading the book and I find it really good
I start playing bass, because of Peter Hook amazing bass style
Influential bassist and phenomenal band. Funny thing Hook never really new theory and played by ear and he is part of reason I play bass (badly)
For the record the program kennedy was talking about Morrissey in fact said he was not a big fan but at the end of the day he supports JD and George michael said he quite liked "closer" by JD
2:48 Poor Hooky 😔

Is this the same Kennedy from MTV? Ugh, she didn't listen to Hook, she interrupted him multiple times, cause she was waiting to talk
she looks like a castrato young Groucho
That's her. She was trying to revive her career by botching an interview with Peter Hook.
Didn't go well, did it.
I love watching Gary Barlows dad being interviewed.
Interviewer talking absolute shite about George Michael. He spoke of closer in glowing terms and clearly knew the album well.
Brotherhood is their best full album 👌
There's no happy ending because you my friend, are unhappy.
Ber-naaard?
classy
North American English isn't normal, the clue is in the name of the language as to where it is original and therefore "normal"
Well, with that logic, shouldn't you be looking at how the Angles in continental Europe would pronounce such a name? More interesting content like this please.
hooky rules!!!
Did he say they put joy Division in a box? Wasn't ceremony a JD track that NO recorded?
You are right. I think Peter Hook meant the studio recordings that were already out.
What album was it that Bernard tried to lessen Hooky’s bass sound? I couldn’t make out what she said
Brotherhood.
His name is pronounced Bear-nerd not Burnaaard
Nerf Chanka it's pronounced arsehole.
She is not British either.
Wooooooow!!!! I never knew of this interview. How weird: Peter Hook on Fox News , Kennedy notwithstanding.
Was wondering how she got on TV. Then I noticed "Fox"...Oh ...
Kennedy is sooooo hot....i remember her as a wee lad when she was an MTV VJ.....she has aged like fine wine
George Micheal was a huge lover of Joy Division it,s not like the Americans get it wrong holy fucking god really
we make the best smallpox blankets on the planet!
Is he the Pete Best of New Order ?
Only if New Order become as big as The Beatles, and that seems unlikely 40 years into a career.
No hes Paul Hook of the Silver Beatles
You seem like a good fellow, but joy division never would've never made it in the u.s. new order made it bc of Bernard. Dance, pre-edm, dance music is what made u all that success.

Bern nard 🤠
She has no clue who they are.....I bet she has never heard of the band
Doubtful. She was an on air personality on KROQ in the 1990s where she was referred to as "The Virgin Kennedy". She most assuredly knows who they are.
Weird to hear "Joy Division" from Fox.
Hate to say it
But Ian dying made Joy Division
Joy Division have some decent tracks but the are still dining out on it
Peter Mars wasn't it that played with NO. I guess its all healthy?
Crap interviewer. Terrible questions, wouldn't let him finish. Didn't listen to his responses at times. She is an embarrassment to Americans. Poor Hooky had to endure this. I'm American, from southern California and love Joy Division, New Order and beyond. ♡

It seems people that write a book afyer a breakup in music or politics are a bit bitter and have to get over their ego and make it work. and dont try to make money over someones misery and private stuff. Make music and stop b...ing, and revive the band.
People change Hooky...get over it.
the virgin Kennedy

When looking for a tv host, look at all aspects of the person you choose. Her voice & 'personality' make me want to turn off !
New Order without Peter Hook is much bettter than Peter Hook without New Order.
Joy Division is much better than New Order.
Joy Division are deeper.
But darker. JD was depressing music.
What a TERRIBLE host!
Peter Hook gave New Order their distinctive sound. They are bland without him.
Thar woman's voice offends my ears.
the interviewer its like trying so hard to be cool.
Fox, Peter? Really?
Old rockers should just disappear.
So should people like you
That's original.
FD Schulyer
Agreed. Or at least stop bitching on interviews with awful hosts.
