I remember buying Technique on cassette as a teenager and been hooked ever since. Looking back, a definite sense of "where words fail, music speaks". Peace and love to all in NO.
1986 was one of the best years of my life. Anyone else regard Brotherhood as an album that is part of the soundtrack of their life? Somehow, like the band, we survived this. Music is such an important part of that survival. Thank you, NO.
You will have a great time. I have seen PH&TL three times in Melbourne several years apart and they never disappoint. They did an outdoor gig in about 2014 and it remains one of the best gigs I've attended in my life.
You will have a great time! Saw them in San Diego a few months ago and Hooky was excellent, so much energy still. NO came through, too, have to admit I didn't give it much thought at all. Lack of Hooky and the size of the venue made it much less desirable, plus never been a PSB fan.
Heard True Faith on the radio when it was released and was floored. Bought the Substance record and loved it. Later borrowed friend’s Low-Life and Brotherhood and never looked back. Technique always has a place in my heart. ❤
I've been on the Joy Division /New Order bus since I was 15 years old. While all my friends were listening to disco and butt-rock, bands like New Order, Rush, Killing Joke, and many more were filling my head with thoughts and ideas rarely expressed in American music. And I've been grateful ever since.
Now 51, I've been lucky enough to see maaaaaany concerts by legendary bands in their golden years since I was 14, but still, New Order at Le Transbordeur in Lyon in 1990 for the opening night remains THE one that blew me away the most. They started the show very late because, from what I heard, they were so high that they couldn't or didn't want to play. Shortly after giving his melodica to the girl next to us, Barney gave his Fender Strat to my friend, but eventually jumped into the crowd to get it back while everyone tried to steal it from him, Peter having a beer with two roadies at the bar before the show, but me being too shy to talk to him though he was staring at me with my brand new NO tee I had just bought... And a damn crazy set list... 😋
51 also. I first saw them in Chicago the summer I was 16, 1989. With PIL AND Sugarcubes. This band, Depeche Mode and Siouxsie & The Banshess saved my life during those years. I can’t explain it but they made me feel less alone for being gay…..when people at school wanted me dead.
@@loiccredhuite7468without Hooky it's just not NO. NO 2.0 just doesn't have the same appeal and everything I see says Barney's voice isn't holding up unfortunately
I have mixed feelings, I've seen Peter Hook and The Light three times in Melbourne and all of them were great. But if I see the remnant New Order I feel it might be disloyal. I know that is silly, but it will feel a bit wrong to see some random bloke playing Hooky's bass lines. But I will probably go anyway.
Was my first time seeing them live, here in Toronto. Felt bad for Sugar Cubes as people were booing them. PIL was amazing. What an experience seeing my Fav band (New Order) for the first time.
In the new box set you’ll see clips from a show in NYC at Pier 84. I shot that footage with some friends of mine. Sorry it isn’t better but we did the best we could with the equipment we had. It is 1987 after all. The world was a different place. Anyway as a little aside to this I actually met Peter who was walking around the Pier unnoticed before their set. I stopped to say hello and we chatted for a few minutes. Told him id seen them a bunch of times including the bizarre 1018 club set from the year before. He just smiled at that one but didn’t really say all that much about it. He seemed like such a sweetheart. He actually seemed disappointed when I had to go , as we were going to try and video that evenings show. But Ive always remembered what a good guy he was and I was extremely glad I got to have a few minutes with him. Btw the new box set is just fantastic and anyone who likes this era of the band will surely love it. For me this almost the end of New Order. They were another band who decided to become the Pet Shop Boys thanks to Bernie. The 1989 shows were the end for me but New Order remains a favorite band of mine from the 80’s.
I always find it curious that Stephen claims Americans didn’t know about Joy Division. I’m a Yank who first discovered Joy Division when FAC 2 A Factory Sample first came out. I was giddy with anticipation of their planned gig at The Starwood nightclub in West Hollywood (June 9 1980). I was absolutely shattered when Rodney Bingenheimer, Rodney On The ROQ, announced Ian’s death the following weekend on his radio show. I went to see New Order on November 6th 1981 when they did their first full tour stateside. There were several hundred of us there and the venue (Perkins Palace in Pasadena) was not some small club. Maybe Stephen meant the flyover states but there were definitely pockets of JD fans in various cities.
❤🇧🇷❤️🇧🇷❤️🇧🇷❤️🇧🇷❤️🇧🇷
Played hard, partied hard, too hard. The late Quincy Jones thought that highly of New Order, that in 1985 placed them onto his record label, Qwest, those anywhere seeking the extra tracks bought his label's releases. Melbourne booked, Sidney Myer Music Bowl.
А New Order - нет. Был и есть свой звук. Даже коллаборации с электронным монстром PSB, а все мы помним Electronic- чувствуется именно их музыка, этот странный new romantic. Там голос Теннанта, семплы, подходы к музыке на тот момент. I can't watch New Order since they kicked out Hooky. I saw PH do a talk when he launched his book, so i only really have his side of the story. I'd seen them live a number of times before then. But when they played the Piece Hall in Halifax, only 10 minutes WALK from my house, i couldn't bring myself to go i was so disgusted with them.
Hooky said he didn't want to do it anymore then tried to sue them when they carried on playing. I like hooky but it was completely his fault, you can't expect the others to stop just because he wants to.
Hooky behaved very aggressively and nastily in the 00s and announced they'd split without consulting anyone then caused legal hell for another decade making threats and vitriol. He's the arsehole.
I guess he fully accepted to answer the interview. He also was involved last year or so in a tv documentary about the making of the power corruption and lies album, for which he cares and loves enough to talk about it (more than Republic or waiting for the siren he both hated to record). With the only condition NOT to share the same room as Barney (I guess too)
It's funny cause by the early 90's(we caught on way late) you couldn't swing a dead cat with out hitting a radio playing "Bizarre love triangle" in the states, and yeah most people had no idea who New Order was.
