    I have a real issue with the lack of affordable housing in New York. I pay $700 per month for a brand new, 2,000 sq. ft., 4 bedroom home with spacious front and back yard areas, in Texas. To see people struggling to pay for a matchbox is heartbreaking. Furthermore, personal space trumps proximity to social activities, for me. Had I resided in New York, I wouldn't have been able to retire early at 41.

    I was born and raised in NYC (Staten Island) and lived in Lower Manhattan for the last 12 years. This city is freaking dead and lost all of its soul. de Blasio and the Governor have absolutely ruined the city. It is definitely not worth the premium to live here anymore. I lived in NYC for 62 years. I disliked it most of those years, but I had a career in the NYC subways and didn't want to commute. So when I retired I took 2 years to get back to normal and find a place to live, and left. I'm in a small town in the western part of NY state now. I bought a house cash and live debt free. Housing is reasonable here, I have a 3 bedroom, 3 bath unattached house with a garage and a half acre property. My closest neighbor is 200' from me. I live on a dead end street in a town that has everything I need close enough to walk to, and open space a 3 minute drive away. It's safe here, clean, quiet and most things are reasonable, except for food in stores. The cheaper things make that expense nothing. My pension allows me to live a normal life here, I don't watch pennies like I did in NYC. NYC is a good place to work, but not to retire. I'm glad I left, and I am not going back. I forgot to mention, that wherever you go, no matter what time of day, you can drive the speed limit because traffic is very light here.

Madonna lived in NYC and was held up at gunpoint got raped with a knife to her back before she became famous and that was the '70s. The NYPD murder of Michael Stewart in '80s which Keith Haring and Basquiat painted about (the "George Floyd"-like incident of its time). The "Central Park 5" scandal, Bernard Goetz subway vigilante, etc. etc. So what NYC are y'all talking about?

    • @mg.5968
      @mg.5968 2 года назад +10

      You should really just get vaccinated. There is no reason not too unless you have a medical or religious exemption. At this point millions have been vaccinated world wide. If there were serious and pervasive side effects we would have seen them by now. The side effects that have been observed (even the more concerning ones) are temporary. Additionally, this idea that potential side effects will show up 30 or 40 years down the road is not true either. Here's what we know about vaccines based on the vaccines that we've had for decades: If there are side effects they show up within the first 90 days. There is no vaccine of record that has people falling out 50 years down the line. Either the side effects happen immediately or they don't happen at all. This is what history tells us. Lastly, the technology and science behind MRNA vaccines has been out there for decades. What was "rushed" was the bureaucracy not the science. There is so much red tape with these types of things. It's amazing what can happen when the government removes the red tape.

    It's so funny how so many people that never been to NY have suggested over the years that I move there. I live in the suburbs of Philly and it seems to suit me fine. I have visited NY and even stayed a few times. Even though I am a big city guy, I can feel the extra pressure of so many more people when I am in NY. In Philly I don't see lines at clubs and restaurants of more than 5 minuetes, not so in NYC, lines everywhere.
    NY is great as a career booster for many occupations. For a dancer friend of mine NYC was almost mandatory. Many New Yorkers that now live down here have purchased their own home. They tell me that they would need like $1 million had they stayed up there to own an equivalent house.
    I would say that for me and most of us, NY is a nice place to visit but I never wanted to live there.
    Also I notice that there is some mention of how NYC was during Covid, my friends up there described it as pure lunacy. One of my friends sadly died despite taking precautions.

That possibly could be made back. In some places there were more deaths than births in 2020. I think that all of these cities will rebound.

    If your take home pay is less than $5000 per month, you will not be able to afford NY unless you are living in a dilapidated apartment in a dangerous neighborhood or you have five roommates. People who were lucky enough to buy a co op, a condo or a house several years ago can probably exist somewhat comfortably if their job is secure. A married couple with good jobs can also squeak by but a single person whose pay is not high- steer clear of New York unless you are certain that your career trajectory will place you in a high income bracket.

    If I move out of NY, It will be to another country either Italy or South korea. Yeah, Those are some wild choices but it's really beautiful in those places and low crime rate. The whole United states has gone mad. No matter what state you go. Violence and crime. Guns all over the place its just been out of control here.

      @jessygarci 2 года назад +6

      @@19inkorrect91 You really must be a little dense. You do know that North and South korea are two completely different sides of The spectrum? I know two friends that studied there and one who moved there because of her fiance. And it's actually beautiful and it's almost, if not just as exciting and up and coming as NYC or miami. They have night life, beautiful beaches, You see lots of Americans, Europeans, etc, Maybe look up "Seoul, South korea" and "Busan, South korea" And you will be shocked how lively and how different it is from North korea. Which is extremely divided and like living in another planet thanks to their leader who chooses to control them just like Cuba . Next time try not being so enclosed or prejudice to places and different people.

    Left New York 22 years ago and I’m so glad I did. I’ve moved to the south and every time I go back to visit, I realize how much I hate it.
    Too many people.
    The traffic is ridiculous.
    The roads will ruin your car.
    The rent is too high.
    Car insurance is too high.
    Homes are too expensive.
    People will hit your car.
    It takes an act of congress to find a parking spot.
    The fact that you have to move your car to the opposite side of the street is ridiculous to me.

    I'm in filmmaking but, I wanted to move to new York originally. I have an associate's degree in media production. I moved from Illinois to Nebraska. For the same reasons. Cheaper rent and to get away from crime,etc. I love Nebraska but, opportunities for the media sucks here. I really want to go after working in television. I'm not interested in Florida. I make friends pretty quickly. I'm an outdoor person. I love public events and going out. Right now I'm so miserable. Really the United States is making me crazy in general , with its politics,etc. If I'm truly honest. To be honest with you the UK'S is setting on my heart more than anything else in the world. If I'm not living in New York city, Florida or LA , I wouldn't know anything else to go. I do love California. It's beautiful there but, the earth quakes is what keeps me from California. I'm really skeptical when it comes to los Angeles. I love visiting there. I think I would be happier moving aboard. I'm just not sure if it's the right decision. I'm just feeling so trapped. I will be 37 years old this month. I'm going crazy. I want to be adventurous. I don't have any kids or anything. No responsibilities!! It's just me by myself. If I found a way to move abroad, I would miss all my friends, my mom and sister but, I'm just not happy here either. I don't know what to do.

    I'm born and raised here, and my family is here, so I'm lucky that I have a place that is spacious in Brooklyn. I've seen it worse in the 80s & 90s, so nowadays, it's nothing. If one has the money to afford it, and live in a safe area, it's great. The museums, culture, diversity, Broadway, etc.
    If the person doesn't care about Broadway, 24/7 access to transit and things to do...then moving to another cheaper state would be best. Unfortunately due to the politics of Florida ( and I hate heat and humidity) that wouldn't be a place for me. But maybe North Carolina? Colorado? Seattle? Not sure.
    I seriously consider retiring out of the country to really have a better quality of life, but I need the art and culture. :)

    Congratulations! Even though things have definitely changed, I still love NY. I cannot do Florida all year long. Like you said, so hot. I spent summers with my aunt and I was hot and sweaty the whole time. NY is humid during the summer but not like FL. I am fortunate that I have been in the same 2 bedroom apartment in a private home for more then a decade so my rent is super cheap and all utilities are included. My rent is significantly cheaper than a mortgage would be if I moved to a coop or condo. You were smart to move. Even in my neighborhood which is not the best, a one bedroom is $1,800! Before the pandemic they were $300-400 less! I know if I leave my apartment and start with a new landlord I will be paying so much more and I will be living in a studio or a one bedroom apartment. I would definitely leave NY too! I work from home now and prior to the pandemic so I can move anywhere- I just need the internet.

    I'm actually thinking of moving to NY 😂.... my dad is there and says I can stay with him. I'm currently in FL (born in queens, raised in Fl) and I just have never been attached... maybe because i grew up here, and I'm over it? I miss the city, but I would never live there. That's a sure fire way of ending up hating NY. There are so many other interesting parts of NY. Anyways, I don't even recommend Fl. The prices are skyrocketing very quickly, it's ridiculous. Fl can be pretty in some areas, but it's not all sunshine and rainbows everywhere. You have to have money here to enjoy life as well! I was living alone, and my rent tripled in 5yrs. The only pro I can say is that yes, it is a lot more quiet, and the winters are more tolerable. We have wet winters though, so it's still icy at times. Idk y'all.. I heard housten was nice, and it has a great art scene. My ult goal is to end up in SKorea... I'm an artist, and Fl has small opportunities for artists. You really have to work hard as a creator here..any thoughts are appreciated 🙏
