Great video Samm
Thanks very much! Love your work
I'm very thankful to both of you for having introduced me to this incredible world of RC airplanes! Keep up the good work and please continue spreading this hobby!!!

Just discovered Samm's videos. I am high school teacher and am diving into the RC world myself. I am hoping to learn enough so I can teach an elective class called "wheels and wings". I hope that Samm's family knows his son's knowledge and ability to simplify and share that is still living on. Samm's videos are better than everything else I am finding out there. Thanks much to Samm and mom and dad for raising such a good son. I will be using some of his videos on RC planes to share with my students. I appreciate how the family's faith in God has given them hope and peace. Keep the faith!
rip sam :( i keep coming across his videos while trying to look for rc related stuff and getting sad as im reminded of him, at least he left a great legacy behind tho, still entertaining and helping people years after hes gone, more than i could ever wish for lol
Excellent tutorial for beginners. I was in the process of doing one for a friend but I'll just direct him here.
Probably one of samm's best videos. So sad we'll never have any more :'(

I just flew my homemade rc airplane for the first time yesterday. It took me countless times, so much so that people laughed at me, but I did it. Thank you for all your detailed explanations and projects, you haven't only inspired me, but countless others. Thank you.
Love building mechanical stuff and have been doing it for years but never did much with electronic. This was so very clear, understandable and helpful Samm. Thank you!
Missing you rip 😟
I like the way you thoughtfully laid out the com0onents in the beginning.
I want to cry. No one explains anything on bodes they just do stuff. Thank you for explaining
When I was young I always wanted to know how a RC plane works, now I understand...(a bit)
Thanks for making this awesome video dude.
Very nice presentation. I’ll be looking for more! I’m a recently retired automation engineer and have been accustomed to good product and systems documentation. I am not seeing anything like that in this field, so good videos are especially appreciated. Thanks!
Awesome video! I bought a cheap drone at a thrift store for 2.00. It took me a few days to learn how to fly it. Now I'm planning to build a decent one. Your video has helped me big time. Awesome job. Thank you!
Great video. Simple, and straight to the point.
Your videos inspired me to get into RC electronics, thank you!
Cant thank you enough ever for gettting me into this hobby. after watching your videos i built my first flying wing. Still cant believe you are gone. i never met you. RIP
The most concise explanation of r/c setup I have seen. 5 stars.
The most useful video i have found by far on these components! I am 15 and want to build my own rc plane in the holidays with my friends so this is a great help.
Thanks to this man I was introduced to rc airplanes, fpv drones and all other forms of flying rc. Rest in peace you will be missed
10/10. I was really lost, and when I saw this it helped me understand RC very well. I've never really seen this channel, but from this video, I can tell it must've been great.
R.I.P. Samm.. 😔
Excellent presentation. I'm looking into swapping out the brains of an old Roomba to make it RC controlled, and this was a great jumping off point to help my basic understand and point me in the right direction.
This made everything so much more approachable thanks
this is ONE HELL of a lot more simple than I thought!
Thanks!
Adam Messmann same here it look so easy. The tough part is probably the engineering of the machine
Do you know how to read parts stats know which motors and ESCs wok best with each other seriously I need help.
@@beachchicken wtf man, 60$ is a steal
One of your best videos! RIP Samm...
Taught me more in 5 minutes than all the "Techy" vids I've watched.
Kudos and thanks!
EXACTLY the video that I, and probably lots of others, need! Great job!
Thanks for helping me get into this hobby. RIP Samm
Thank you so much, before this I had absolutely no idea how connecting all the servos and motors would work, but now it is all very clear and I plan on making my first plane soon :D
So it’s been two years so I assume you’ve done it, HOW THE HELL DO I TURN THE DAMNED THING OFF? WHERE IS THE POWER BUTTON?
Thanks so much for making this video! I'm currently building a 250 FPV quad and just got a Tactic Ttx650 radio with the same exact receiver you use in this video. Up until watching this video, I was confused as to whether or not I had to use a separate battery just to power the Rx. Your video cleared this up for me!Knowing that my ESC's have a BEC and that I can power everything including my Rx with just one battery is a huge relief! I searched high and low for any videos that featured the Tactic receiver and how I'd go about having to power it and luckily your video popped up in my feed. Thanks so much! 😃
+Iwillsayyes1 glad it helped. I plan to make a similar video on the subject of "quadcopter parts for noobs" and "FPV for nubes" but for now I have to tell you that the ESCs used for quadcopter a nowadays don't have BECs because it's a bit silly to have 4 of them. Instead they put a BEC (or 5v output) usually on the PDB (power distribution board). I love my tactic, but as far as I know they don't have any receivers with PPM or serial output (one wire for all channels), meaning you'll have to use PWM (one wire for each channel) which is fine.
Great video mate! Everything I needed to know to get started on my project. 7 years on and still going strong :)
This is perfect! I have been wanting to start scratch building rc planes for a while but have been a bit confused about the electronics. This answered many of my questions. Thanks a lot!
Awesome! There are always more question. RC groups and RUclips will usually have an answer, but if you have a specific question, ask me!
***** The only other question I have right now is about LiPo batteries. It is my understanding that they should not be discharged past a certain point. How am I supposed to know when they reach that point to ensure I don't damage them? Do I need to get a multimeter to check them?
Rum Ham Great question, LiPo batteries are annoying because they won't let you know when they are dead. Once they discharge past 80% of their capacity, or about 3.0v-3.2v per cell, they start to damage themselves. But since most ESC's come with a low voltage cutoff feature these days, it's not quite as important. But a good tool I use is this one www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-RC-Lipo-Battery-Low-Voltage-Alarm-1S-8S-Buzzer-Indicator-Checker-Tester-LED-/271746517929?hash=item3f455acba9:g:MzYAAOSwYGFUvRrP
It plugs into the balance plug and tells you all the voltages, and you can set at which voltage to trigger the alarm, it is VERY loud for such a small thing. If you wanna be extra nice to your batteries, set it to like 3.4v, or you could push them down to 3.0v if you really want, just don't leave them there for too long.
***** Thanks a lot!
Joey A me too I want to scratch build q plane too
Rest In Peace, Samm!

@philippe cote 😭😭 he was my inspiration
Has this dude passed away. Aw man there's no justice. RIP
Thank you so much for doing this video! I am a complete noob when it comes to this stuff, but ever since I was a kid, I always wanted to build an RC plane from hand. I would really appreciate it if you do more videos like this!
Thanks for this Samm, incredibly clear and very helpful!
Great and simple explanation, love it!
+Ga2be Thanks! I think you had a little glitch or something, check out my spam box! imgur.com/R1Z6uPE
+Samm Sheperd (SNRS) Holy... It just told me some error occurred, so I spammed the button a little. Sorry!
***** RUclips is pretty good at filtering suspicious comments
+Samm Sheperd (SNRS) Great for me I guess! I also have a question, are you able to change the channel which your control works at? I've heard about "crystals" but I'm not sure :S
***** Currently, 2.4GHz is what everyone is using. With 2.4 GHz, the Tx and Rx are connected digitally and don't need crystals. Before 2.4GHz, it was 72MHz, with that system people would have to use a matching crystal in the Tx and the Rx. there were only a certain number of different crystals so people had to make sure two people weren't using the same crystals. These crystals were named a channel. What the crystal actually does is tune the radio into a specific sub frequency. like 72.790MHz. 72MHz was also kinda glitchy, required 8 AAA's and had really long antennas. So the new 2.4GHZ is pretty great.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
Where was this video when I started out around around 2 years ago?
:)
Great guide Samm
So simple yet you won't on internet
watched a lot of videos before, yet coudn't figure out
what an ESC is and how everything works
FINALLY!!! THANK YOU!!! It's amazing how overwhelming RC aircraft can be to someone without an electronics background. Manuals often make assumptions that you have a working knowledge of this stuff. Not always so. You have given me a starting point. I appreciate it! Now I can get to the model-making part! 👍👍👍

Just trying to get into rc airplanes and that helps a lot clearing up things. Thank you!
I like how it just gets right to the point and doesn’t go into anything else that people who want to start in rc don’t really need to know if they aren’t studying for a test.
I turned the notification bell on only to find out he'll never gonna come back. Rip samm :((
rest in peace my friend
Just came across this video as I was at a loss for how to finish my project. Thank you for such a simple but information filled video. Rest in peace Samm
Brilliant video, the speed controller supplying both power to the receiver and receiving the signal was the thing I didn't understand and probably what confuses most people at the start, I initially assumed a second battery would be needed.
Sams still teaching people
Also, do you think I should do a review on that mini quad at the end of the video?
Oh okay...
Used this motor www.headsuphobby.com/HURC-300-Blue-Wonder-1400kv-Brushless-Motor-G-272.htm
and an 18A ESC, 9g servos and this same radio system all used in this video
+Samm Sheperd (SNRS) The CX10 has been out a while now. It's a great learning quad. I just wish they would have a cheap one with 3 axis (acro) on it to learn with.
+Samm Sheperd (SNRS) I would like to know how you did that flip.
Rum Ham By pressing down on the right stick, you enter flip mode. The transmitter will beep and you can push it forward, back, left or right and it will flip that direction by itself.
You can also cut the throttle mid flip to force it to flip multiple times, though recovery is not guaranteed.
Aw man, just seeing the comments about RIP. This is the first video I’ve ever seen on this channel. Very informative and to the point.
Great overview! You really know how to condense down a lot of information. Thanks!
What is the best racing quad for beginners on a budget. I need the whole fpv setup goggles controller and quad and should I start with a whoop and if so which. There are so many options I'm at a loss because I don't have a big budget all at one time but I need all the stuff any help is appreciated. Thanks for the vids they are a help. Should I get one an all in one like the eashine 130? Or the assasin 180 which has the quad controller and goggles?

Thank you sooooo much. I have recently fallen in love with DIY RC planes that FliteTest makes, so I wanted to try it. I hopped onto amazon, and being a computer guy, I thought, "How hard can it be?" Very, apparently. All the other RUclips videos covering this are vague and aimed at mid-level creators. Your view taught me what I need to know to make RC planes.

Possible with huge electronics knowledge.
I'm assuming you'd wire transistors into the receiver to act at RC switches and control thr circuit that way
