- No, this video is not clickbait. I really did move out of NYC for real. After 15 years of living in this amazing city, the time has come for me to move on and in this video, I share the 10 reasons why.

This was one of the hardest decisions I've ever made. I love NYC so much and it is SO DIFFICULT to leave. However, I see no other option at this time...I look forward to sharing a new part of my life with you in our new house outside of the city. If you're interested, here is our house tour (it needs a lot of work and I can't wait to share that journey with you) ruclips.net/video/SvkD7g2l0Q8/видео.htmlsi=tg834Q65DeUVFRQc
Where have you moved??
Good decision 💯
Yes I lived in NYC before as army recruiter it was fun but that was 95 to 98
Ohh wow, Sarah and family - the end of an era! You're my go-to for all things NYC, but I'm really happy for your new chapter and relieved you'll still be visiting and posting about that glorious city! 😍Wishing you so much happiness and success in your new home - looking forward to checking in on your progress! Awesome looking house and beautiful land! Going to be quite an adventure! Congrats and cheers to you all! 🥳
Holly God bless me 😍🇺🇸🙌
I did the same thing a month ago. After spending my 20s in NYC, I finally admitted to myself that my priorities in my 30s have already changed, and NYC wasn’t really the place for me to accomplish my new goals. My definition of happiness has changed, and pleasure became synonymous to peace.
I'm ready to leave.
Somehow salaries have gone down as rents went up. Literally got contacted by a recruiter for a job paying 45K/yearly. There are NYC apartments that cost that much to rent for a year.
At this point, I see no way forward for the transplanted creatives to work a grind job to sustain themselves. No affordable way for behind the scenes folks to sustain themselves as they start out in their career doing free or low paying gigs to build a resume. Wall Street is only hiring on contract and paying wages that were low in 2004. NYC is no longer a place to begin a arts/creative career or even sustain a mid-level one where you don't fully support yourself et from pay.
It's much smarter to build a social media presence in a less expensive place and build a brand and come here only if work brings you. NYC is no longer the cutting edge of art and culture.
@@Kimberly_Sparklesya nyc isn't what it use to be for artist. I remember feeling rich making $100 at a music gig in 2004 after I graduated HS. Now that tiktok has romanticized people to move here venues can pay $75 for the night and still get someone.
I feel the same way, I want a better quality of life and peace of mind.
I would just like to say thank you.
I've just gotten back home to the UK after spending a week in NYC, and your videos were a huge help in the preparation for my trip.
I managed to see so much of the city and not fall for any scams or get sucked into any tourist traps.
I had an absolutely amazing time and I can't wait to go back again in the future.
Thank you.
This is so good to hear! Thank you for sharing!
Glad U had a great time.
NYC is great… :)
@pa_2600 Best advice I can give is watch plenty of SarahFunky's videos.
I'm a native New Yorker and I have to say she did it right. She came here young, hustled hard and gained valuable experience in corporate before transferring into entrepreneurship. She created multiple businesses and is now relocating for family and a house. I was born and raised here. My parents bought a house in the lates 60s, retired in the 90s and moved south. I had an amazing middle class life that is unattainable on todays' average salary. I've lived in a few states but decided to come back and make NYC home and bought a house in Queens with 5 bedrooms, a garage and back yard. I'm in a unique situation. I'm not married and have no kids. My parents paid for my entire college education so no student loans and they even gave me a down payment for my house or which the mortgage is so low it is impossible to ever get what I have here ever again. I have rental income and also started a few businesses so I am totally self sufficient.. NYC is a place for people to come in their 20s, work hard, have fun gain experience and then bounce. Unless you're super rich, inherit property you will just be struggling and barely getting by unless you think outside the box.
I live in Northern Virginia outside of DC. Same thing here. Right out of school as a 20 something, go live in the city, work hard, spend almost all your money on rent, party, make news friends, get experience. Then grow up and move to the burbs for grass of your own, safety, have kids, and the good life. Every generation should go through it
@@joedo8500 Yes indeed. I've lived in cities I never expected or wanted to for work, but glad I got the experiences. You appreciate where you live and opportunities more. Plus it helps for making wise decisions in the future..
@@uncleruckus7409 I grew up in Baltimore and my first job out of school was actually in New York. I lived in Flushing and my sales territory was Queens. It was a great experience. I left after a while but my brother who followed me up there went on to work on Wall Street, did the whole Manhattan city life and now is living across the Hudson in Jersey with his new wife. Good times!
@@joedo8500 Great to hear success stories. Queens is the most diverse county in the US and gives you a glimpse of the entire world. People are often fixated on Manhattan and give Queens a bad rap. Plus, people are not aware of other areas, like your brother in Jersey. There are several smaller cities and regions nearby most are totally unaware that make up Metro NY.
@@uncleruckus7409 Thank you for your comment. What's the point of struggling most of your life? It's just too short.
So happy for you guys! Can't wait to see what comes next and thanks so much for your years of knowledge here that saved me during my short time in NYC.
I had a similar experience leaving London when I moved back to Scotland. The way I see it now, all the extra money I save allows me to visit regularly and stay in nice hotels when I go out with London based friends for a meal or drinks. As you get older, the "need" for city life dissipates too and you appreciate what a more family friendly location offers. It's great seeing the impact it has on the kids. In saying that, I'm not quite ready for a pipe and slipper life yet (!) but more infrequent visits to the 'big city' do allow you to appreciate what it has to offer more. Thank you for your videos - have enjoyed watching them over the years. All the best to you and your lovely family.
She didn’t leave. She just moved to a suburb
I just want to say Thank you Sarah for being part of my journey to making it to New York City! You helped me pick places to see I'd never thought I would ever do. I love your videos and I can't wait to see what new journeys you have to come. I hope you post different places for future trips❤ Blessing to you & your family in this New chapter of life! ✌️🫶
Thank you Sarah for sharing your journey over the years. Your videos have been invaluable for us traveling from Australia to NYC and you helped us so much! Looking forward to see what’s next for you. Thank you again
I completely empathize with this entire video! Been through similar. Congratulations on starting this next chapter in your lives. It will be amazing!
Your channel is awesome!! My daughter and her hubby made the heart breaking and life changing move from Brooklyn to Bucks County PA last summer with their new baby. Traded high costs for hometown living. They will never regret NYC/Brooklyn life, but life with a family takes priority over all the crazy expenses and struggles of city living. And taxes. And no laundry. No parking. And stairs. The stairs! Good luck! Can’t wait to see what’s next for you guys!
Exactly .. where I was born and where I am thinking about coming back to..
Hello from Brooklyn. NYC is great when young and single, but as we get older, and priorities change, and families grow, the costs just don’t make much sense anymore. I’m still here with spouse and soon to be high schooler. Would love to follow the example of your daughter, but spouse just can’t seem to bring himself to find a job outside of NYC.
Congratulations Sarah and Louie!!! 🎉❤ Change is always hard but there are only good things to come for you and your family. Trust the process and the universe ❤
I'm not crying, you are. . . . . *tears coming down* Thank you for sharing your wonderful experiences here in NYC and congratulations on this new chapter of your life. I know it wasn't an easy decision but we are glad you made the right choice. Can't wait for new content.
So excited for y'all! I can't wait to see the renovation and more videos of your life! Love you guys! ❤🎉
I can't wait to show it to you!
Congratulations on your move! I’m excited to see the next adventures for your family, and of course some NYC content along the way!
Hi Sarah and Luis! Excited for you to jump into this new chapter of your lives! Would love to see more content from you moving forward about how you started and grew each of your businesses and how you found the right people and partners to help you grow! Thank you for all the fun videos about NYC over the last years
I concur (Unlike Leo in "Catch Me if You Can") ... Lolz
I watch the channel because of you and your family! Your energy is incredible! Love you guys, all the best ❤
For many years, I have been watching your videos and you have become a part of my life. I wish you all the best in this new chapter of your lives.
Thank you for all the NYC content and I look forward to seeing the new chapter.
I'm not crying!! Yes, I'm crying. I'm also immensely excited for you, your family and this incredible next chapter!! Salud!
Congratulations to the lot of you. I remember you talked about leaving New York in a prior video. I'm glad you made the move. I live in Manhattan and with congestion pricing. All of the money it takes to live here. I myself live at a doorman building. & just the downright politics of the city. You guys are gonna kick ass elsewhere. I can't wait to see what comes of this channel I'm rooting for ya'll Congratulations again 🙏🫶🍻
It's been a pleasure Sarah. This channel got me through lockdown etc. Wishing you all the very best with the new adventure.
♥️ Sarah I’m so exited for you, and your beautiful family. You have been a very inspirational person to me over the years. I’m so excited for your new content regarding your renovation/decoration of your new stunning home x
All the best Sarah & Luis! NYC will always be a part of you both. Your decision is not out of a whim - it's always wise to re-evaluate when life processes and priorities shifts. Finances is a huge consideration factor always since it does affect our physical, mental, emotional, psychological health to a large extent. And we all need health to live full lives. So I'll say, "Wise decision!".
Sarah and Luis,
Sending you the very best wishes for your next chapter. I've so enjoyed watching your incredible content for the past five years, and feel very fortunate to have had the chance to meet both of you on tours of NYC (which were such hugely fun and memorable experiences). I look forward to seeing what's coming next!
Take care.
Tim from Sydney
GOOD for you guys!!! I´ll be here whatever you end up doing. Hard core fan of your honesty and practical approach to travelling. All the best to ya happy lot.
I found your content during the lead up to my first visit to NYC last month. It was super helpful! Congrats!
I AM SO EXCITED TO SEE YOUR NEW ADVENTURES! I love your transparency and vulnerability in this video, I’m definitely going to eagerly await your videos :)
We love and will miss you Sarah; keep us updated.
Thank you so much, Sarah! You helped me fall in love with NYC!
So excited for you guys! You really made the most of NYC. My husband and I made a big move once we started a family and it’s been so good. It was for many of the reasons you had. And you’ll find so many young families in the same situation. A new chapter is both scary and exciting, can’t wait to follow your next adventure.
So excited to know more about you new home!!!!
Congratulations on the move and your new chapter, can’t wait to see the new content!
Wishing you every blessing on your new adventure! You can not possibly know how helpful your channel was for this 55 yr old from FL as I tagged along my husband's work trip last week. I grew up on LI but was never allowed in the city :). Coldest weekend of the year but I was able to navigate and plan to make the most of our visit. Thank you!!!!
Tears of joy. Watched your channel and family growth. We look forward to viewing a new perspective. Thank you guys for showing us your world and mine as a new yorker.
I will follow you whatever you post about. NYC is changing so much right now, I think it’s a good move.
I do love New York too.
1) It's expensive, and it's not kid-friendly (though I'd argue it's a haven for tween ages on up). No argument. 2) I think you'll find that over time you will come to the city less often, as your life shifts to your new home base. City friendships-- the more casual ones anyway-- will gradually wither. 3) Without divulging where your new home is, I'm hoping that if it's upstate NY that you will consider featuring attractions in your new region. The Hudson Valley in particular has so much to explore. Good luck in your new home!
These are good points! Thank you!
Agree with the tween comment, but I'd say after the toddler years nyc is great. We moved to the city when our child was 6 and she made a great group of friends in our neighborhood (UWS).
A toddler + stroller in NYC is super tough, but there's so much to do with kids in the city once they hit tween years.
Good luck with your move! So exciting! My now husband and I met you doing your walking tour in 2019! Your NYC content was so helpful for us but can’t wait for more life content to! Being a mum to a 1 and 3 year old while also renovating a house this will be so relatable! Xxxx
Good luck in your new place!
Got to admit I didn’t see that one coming….. said nobody ever…. I look forward to your retirement years in Florida😂😂😂you’re trajectory is pretty predictable
You inspired me to start traveling to NYC from DC to do content. Congrats Funk Family ❤
Before I came to NY the 1st time, I watched all your videos to learn everything from you; from getting from the airport, to take the subway, where to eat, where to visit, how not to get scammed, etc. etc. I am so glad to see you having a family and moving forward with your life. Just want to say thank you for your help and insight.
It will be soooooo worth it!! I am so happy for you making this leap. Bella will thrive in this new environment.
Wow! Congratulations on everything! I still miss seeing you guys everyday and little Bella growing. I know you guys will do amazing things wherever it is that you live and nothing but the best for your entire family
Congratulations on the new chapter! ❤
Good luck! Enjoy your new home and the extra savings! Love the content. Your videos convinced me to go on my first trip to NYC and it was amazing. Especially the funky experiences tour.
Sarah Funk, you are such a cutie pie. So happy for you and your new chapter I truly think this is the best / smartest choice for making that family business happen. Excited to see what the new year brings for you, Louie and Bella.
What a wonderful opportunity for you and your family! Can't wait for you to share about your new environment .
Very excited for you and your family!! Have fun!!
Congratulations from Atlanta 🎉 Light, love, and laughter to you and your family! I found you on Twitter years ago. Wishing you all the best 👍 Be excited! You guys deserve it 💓
Congrats Sarah and Louis! A big decision and a smart one 🎉 I’ve returned to visit nyc for third time, lived here 1990 , visited on business 2001 and now with my family and YOUR videos have been super helpful - so thank you x and good luck!
Good luck with your new chapter in life! You are special and deserve the best.
Just want to say thank you, thank you, thank you! Been following your vlogs for years. I think the future for you and your family will be just great, great, and great! I'll keep on following your vlogs and am excited to see what happens next. :)
Thank you for all your NYC vids! It’s the reason I visited last year ❤❤❤
Congrats on this new journey, wishing you nothing but the best.
Recently came across your channel after booking an upcoming trip to NYC in Nov. Thank you, I’m learning so much and lots of tips. Appreciated thank you! All the best in the next chapter of your life, many happy returns. ❤
Congratulations to you guys! And I’m sure your next videos will be awesome as well!!
Goodluck on the move and to the new house. We made the decision 4 years ago and its the best decision we made. We miss NYC but we can still visit if we want (we moved to Northern NJ) the only adjustment in owning a house is you have to deal with all the repair and maintenance which also costs a lot of money. Im sure Luis can handle shoveling and yard work to save some money. (You got this Luis!) Goodluck again thanks for the back story. Very inspiring! More power to the channel! 😊
Your videos are amazing and fun to watch, Sarah. All the best to you and your family.
As ap erson who grew up in Brooklyn: It was child friendly in a way that we don't see as child friendly now- neighbors knew your kid, there was freedom to roam, you picked up different languages and you got street savvy. But expenses are NO JOKE- especially if you live in Manhattan or in Downtown Brooklyn! I can't wait to see how you guys fare in your MASSIVE new home!
Your videos were very helpful when we were moving to NYC. We chose LIC because of how highly you recommended it. We love it here. Even my kids watch your videos. They are older, so they love it here too. Thank you so much for all the content and All the very best to you. ❤ I will be hooked on to your channel now. We are still deciding on whether to move out of NYC after a few years to a bigger house but we just love the convenience of the city. I think we are city people, lazy to do things ourselves lol. So, it will be interesting to see how it goes for you.
Your reasons are rock solid and your decision A+!
Love your Chanel Sarah, thanks for all the NY tips. All the best for the future and I look forward to your new content.
Thanks for your videos over the years, it helped a lot when I was anxious about moving to NYC!
Congratulations and best wishes!! Make it an unbelievable time in your new home!
Thank you Sarah for inspiring me to start my RUclips channel on NYC and Travel. New videos on your channel have been my feel-good moments on so many days. I'll tune-in for all the great content that you will share in the future. Onwards and upwards!
P.S. In a similar boat right now so can't wait to hear how you feel about this decision few months from now!
Love your honesty. I'm amazed you didn't move earlier. I love NYC but all the add-on costs and general vibe of the place put me off re-visiting. Will be so good to see how your perspective changes (or doesn't) once you move. All the very best!
Sarah, whatever you decide to promote on your channel - I will watch it, because I love the kind of person you are. I started bc of my visit to NYC, but I will continue bc you have a interesting journey ahead, and I love your mindset. So - keep up and I wish you the best of luck!
Been following you for a long time now Sarah and have enjoyed your videos. Good luck to you and the family and remember, look forward never back.
God bless x
Love the video and the end is so emotional! I’m sad you guys are leaving, but always rooting for you, and excited for the house parties 😂❤
Congratulations on your new chapter! It would be great to see videos on your new home renovations! And, of course your one of the best NYC content creators!
so very happy for you & your family making new memories ! Have a lovely week
So excited for you, this is amazing ! Looking forward to follow you on this new journey.
Love and light from Magnus in Norway
Excited to see your new adventures in your new home and area.
Hi Sarah, recently took a trip last spring to NYC with the family. all your videos helped us so much! From the tips such as what to be careful of! to how to get from the airport to Midtown! Loved the Long Island Rail Road! you made our trip unforgettable and we truly appreciate all your hard work. The family and I wish you the best in your next adventure!
I have loved watching your NYC videos, but I wish you the best on your move and look forward to seeing all of your new videos. 😊
Many well wishes to you and your growing family. Best of luck to your new ventures! I've enjoyed your content which I first discovered during the pandemic.
WOW huge congrats on this new and wonderful journey! Genuinely excited for you and know you made the best choice and I hope we can follow suit because of allllllll the reasons you mentioned and then some! Looking forward to getting to know you guys better through the more personal approach.
Congratulations, Sarah! Sounds like you have your priorities in the right place. Good luck to you and your beautiful family!
Thank you so much for your support!
We also moved out of NYC for pretty much the same reasons about 10 years ago! We now live up in New Hampshire in a 4 bedroom house, and just like you discovered, it also costs way less than our apartment in NYC. Our two kids have their own room and the quality of life is so much better for them. We also found that grocery shopping is way cheaper up here than in NY! However, we do have to come to NYC at least twice a year because we still have family there but we appreciate your videos so much because it keeps us up to date on what's happening in NYC. Best of luck living upstate!
Thank you Sarah for all those cool videos that provided me and my wife each time so good Tipps when we come over here from Germany for visits. We wish you and your family all the best in your beautiful new house!
I just recently discovered your channel so I kinda feel disappointed you’re moving. Odd reaction, I suppose! Congratulations on your new home and I will definitely stay subscribed to hear about your new ventures!
I lived in NYC many years ago. I have a March trip planned and I’m aware of how many things have changed so I really love hearing ideas and tips from you.😊
Thanks for all the videos and best of luck and success in the next chapter of your life 😊
I am so excited for the future content. ❤
Leaving New York City was the worst decision of my life. It killed my heart and soul a little bit. Luckily after many years, I was able to buy a small place in Brooklyn. I’ll take half time NYC, over no NYC.
All the best to you. Your kid will love the space.
Did car centricity play a part?
Worst decision of my life too
Wherever you guys go you'll be great! ♥
I gotta say when i saw the title i was like ugh noooo...
but as always you handle this material with class. you could've gone down to the dirt with a lot of
your contemporaries (some nyc youtubers you've actually done vids with) but you don't do "feartainment"
you listed the same things they did without the gross edge they do, you a real one, funky.
bless your family, your home and so good to see you will still be making vids.
Change is good! Best of luck on your new life and home!🎉
Hi! You and Luis make amazing content…location won’t matter! I made an amazing 5 day itinerary to NYC from your videos…my husband was so impressed! I just wish I had done a food tour with you guys! I look forward to DITL vlogs in your new home and renovation vlogs! Also think about doing Fall in New England vlogs, Boston vlogs, Cape Cod vlogs and maybe other great places!! I look forward to the new content and congratulations on being home owners!❤️❤️❤️
I'm wishing you the best with your new home Sarah !
Congratulations on having your first home! I watched many of your videos before my wife and I visited NYC this past fall. Thank you for all the great information which was useful in seeing as much as we could in about six days. it was my second time and my wife's first time. Since visiting NYC in May 2001, I knew I had to return. New York is such an interesting place where I can feel the city's energy.
Thank you Sarah, we are from The Netherlands and we used your videos to make the best of our trips to NY. You are a great and professional presenter for videos.
Hi Sarah! This is so exciting and I’m really looking forward to the new type of content! I’ve enjoyed your channel so much (especially your tours with Tom Delgado during the pandemic) and it’s clear how hard you and Luis work for your success. Looking forward to your renovation content 😊 Love from Perth Western Australia xx
What a great video - amazing that you kept your emotions together. I left NYC with my wife and baby daughter 12 years ago after a 5 year stay. Was a tough call to make, but it has been for the best. Definitely miss the city and always will, but life works out.
Can’t wait to see what’s coming. Good luck.
i wish you nothing but the best in your new journey. new york city has its problems with high prices and the noise pollution. i love new york city myself born and raised and i could relate to your decision on departing. wishing you and your family a happy 2024🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽
We too are taking some risk and moving away albeit from a much less interesting city but still a beautiful one. Moving away from friends is tough but we have decided you gotta get out of your comfort zone to grow.
Excited for you guys!
Congratulations! Btw I really enjoyed watching your videos..my daughter and I went to New York City for Christmas in 22'...watching your videos prepared us so thank you! I'm so excited for you guys...freedom to adult knowing your child is safe is huge. It's a win win for everyone involved...life will become more chill. Safe travels & enjoy 💜🪬☄️
Best Wishes!!!!! Thanks for sharing with us!!
Good luck to you and your family! ❤
Those photo to empty room transitions were so beautiful in the end ❤
Good luck with this new adventure!
Will certainly keep watching all your NYC blogs. But really looking forward to all your new restaurants and places to visit outside of NYC. Love your new home. God Bless ya'll!!
Good for you! Once you get settled, I think you'll love living in your own home. And you'll still have the option to visit/work in the city! The best of both worlds! I look forward to seeing your house updates and decorating. Enjoy the fun of it all!
Congrats on all your success! I still look forward to your videos.
