How to Hardwire your Google Home (Wired Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi)

- Hi, this video shows a Google Home working on a WIRED internet connection. You can use a Chromecast Ethernet Adapter which is the easiest option. In the video I connected up a Micro USB OTG cable and a Y USB cable and a USB to Ethernet adapter.
An easy option to get internet to a Google Home in a location with a weak WiFi signal is to use Powerline adapters with WiFi Boost.
Many thanks Vince.
I bought the official google adapter to my google home mini. Works incredible.
perfect. I prefer a wired home.
Vic da G Do look into MOCA Adapters. They are amazing. Internet pushed over coaxial house wiring.
David Hirsch i will, & i just saw i can get the ethernet adapter $15 from google
Vic da G yeah great price but shipping is slowwww.:-)
@@davidhirsch3163 Can you put here link please ?
Excellent, very interesting stuff. I always wanted to have one of these little suckers, the google home or the amazon echo, but at the same time stay away from wifi because of electromagnetic pollution. Now I can also have it - thanks a lot....!!!
Did the wired setup work for you?
He took *Improvise, Overcome, and Adapt* quite literally 😂
You should try a USB DAC to see if you can get Audio out!
Oh my. I didn't know that was possible with the Micro USB "service" port.
I think it works because it's probably running a stripped-down Android (at least 6.x) core. Heck, I might plug in a USB 2.0 Ethernet adapter into my old phone (stuck on Android 6.x) to see if that would work.
I mean, it does make the same start up jingle as on Pixel phones, and the 2 stages of start-up remind me of how a typical Android device starts up.
Yeah I wonder what else is possible with the service port. I got my hopes up with the external USB soundcard but unfortunately nothing!!!
i wonder if it also works on the mini
I'm super late to the party, but this does work with the Mini - at least, the Chromecast Ethernet adapter does. Haven't tested this mess of adapters.
As for why it works, Google Home/Mini/Max use a modified version of the Chromecast OS, which is supposedly super stripped down ChromeOS. The Home also uses extremely similar hardware as the Chromecast gen2, but I'm not 100% sure about the Mini and Max.
Very interesting. Can you put off the wifi also in the google home device? Would be great to have a completely wifi free environment
i can't undestand why google dosn't provide that, really
I believe you can do this to a Amazon fire cube because they hook up similar to a fire TV stick. It may be impossible because I never looked over the device but if you could hardwire the internet to say a Amazon echo studio you would really have something. But a lot of people aren't willing to gamble blowing their device. Thank you for the interesting video.
Loved this just subbed keep up the good work
Alright, you convinced me. I am buying random cables on amazon right now
Lmao, when you said 'ok google', it made my three google devices all turn on. (I usually have the mic off, and turn it back on when I want to use one, but for some reason, they were all on)
You're the Claudio ranieri of RUclips 'the tinker man'
you kept on activating my google home lol
hi, great video and thanks for the info. do you happen to know if you can disable wifi on the speaker using the google home app. ie like is there a button to turn off like on a laptop or cell phone
top job, thanks for sharing.
Unfortunately Google still broadcasting WiFi signal even if it is using only cable to transfer data. I've check it with RF measurement equipment. (ugreen adapter form Amazon)
If it is broadcasting Wi-Fi with no SSID, then you need to disable guest mode on Chromecast / Google Home
@@DB-47 Will try that thanks for the hint
Excellent video
Hello, Firsly, thanks for sharing this helpful video. Do you think I can use a RJ45 Adapter for ChromeCast or TV stick with two cables (1 USB for power supply and 1 micro USB to connect ChromeCast or other TV stick) + RJ45 slot and I will be able to "wired" my Google Home? Best
Well done vince very interesting
they'd better not patch this out
because this is amazing
I doubt they will, because I understand the Google Home Max officially supports USB type C to Ethernet adaptors.
I think they should offer this and the same to amazon for their echo devices
I did try the wire-connection last week, but no luck. Is that the updates for google home already disable the function for wire connection?
As you said ok google and asked about weather it started mine off with a weather report
Ha ha same!
John Boyle same
You can completely put off wifi in Google home?
very interesting. Makes one wonder why they hide this. Can't say it was cost. The port is already there.
How would this void the warranty? You're not physically tampering with the google home or modding the software. This wouldn't void the warranty.
Will it work with POE ethernet cables, so without the need for a separate power supply?
I like this channel :-)
It is borderline impossible to watch this video on a Google pixel with no earphones
@@leexiong7260my Samsung does the same thing even with voice recognition turned on
Now to get PoE working xD
Excellent, will a USB DAC work as well when connected to this port?
how is it possible on google nest hub max please ?
Could you attach a USB prepaid mobile dongle to it ?
1. can you plug usa MICRO USB TO ETHERNET ADAPTOR ?
2. Do you need to additional power supply ? (the main google power adaptor doesn't provide enough power for the micro USB port ?) cheers
Can you still wifi-cast to it if it is on ethernet?
Try Google Home mini ?
Have you tried just the audio connected and charging? Maybe it only allows so many things at once.
Hi, can I connect it to a regular google nest mini?
Do you need the extra power source?
Is this possible on a home mini as well?
Hey MY Mate VINCE....Would it work to do a similar setup with the Libratone Zipp 2 through the usb-a port? Trying to create a wired connection with my Zipp 2. Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I really want one of these for the amazon Alexa because I have really bad WiFi.
Do you have something for a google home mini nest ( google home mini 2 )?
Hello Vince ! Will similar approach work with Google MIni ?
Work for google nest?
could you try with Google mini to make it wired Internet??
Yes, that's work too
Can you test if a game cube wheel works on the Nintendo switch by using the official game cube adapter
Hi, I don't have the official one but I do have a MayFlash and a GameSeek Wii U adapter and unfortunately the GameCube steering wheel does not work on either of them.
Hi, correction!!!!! I was wrong.....I have just tested it again on the GameSeek Wii U adapter and now the GameCube steering wheel is working. I will upload a video :-)
My Mate VINCE Can the Google home and amazon echo devices be connected to a wired internet connection in 2018 or have they disabled this feature now?
how long to charge?
A very important question is not being answered - can i still cast to it in this situation? Because you have to be on the same wifi network to cast. So if i'm on a moble on my "GoogleNest" wifi and this thing is now plugged in and not on wifi, i feel like i woudln't be able to cast to it, then.
In most homes, you've got a router with wifi AND wired outlets. No matter whether you connect with a wire or with wifi you would be on the same network. So unless you've set up a separate local network for just wifi, it doesn't matter whether your devices are connected with wifi or with a wire. The "cast" function doesn't care.
@@andreasjansson5802 if i'm on a different wifi network than what i cast to google explicitly says i can't do it and i hvae to change networks to do it. done this many times.
@@ClaireCJS Yes, If you have multiple networks you need to choose the same net as the one that your Chromecast is communicating with.
I don't have this setup myself, I just presumed that your hardwired network from you router at home would be the same as the one you use with wifi on your phone. Perhaps someone else can assist, so that I don't say anything that is not correct.
can I do it with Google Home MINI ?
It's cool and all, but what's the reason?
does this work with google home mini
google home mini?
I heard that this no longer works? Is this true?
Hey Docwho, I tried it a few minutes ago with my Google Home I bought on december 2018 and it worked. I used a chromecast adapter by Ugreen and an 1.8A USB charger.
Fips bro , I tried today . The light is still blinking
Right, not saying this isn't intriguing, but all our lights still need wifi.
I can not setup google home on ethernent
:-)
I want my google assistant with an English accent
POOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP
Rich people be like:
iigig
Dude, instead of this, find a way for Google Home to read out my emails.
Why you need this .... when working properly with wifi
does this also work with the mini?
Yes
