    I honestly had to keep checking I'd got the price right on the bike. Its A LOT of bike for the money! Well done Haibike for creating a great ebike at an outstanding price point. What do you guys think?

    Great video. Thanks. Please also notice that what you see as something you don’t like much could be seen as a great feature by others. For example that ultra instant assistance of the motor as soon as you push the pedal it’s something I have always loved from the Yamaha unit. It makes those steep difficult restarts much easier. Then also, as you mentioned, the Yamaha motor has the racing motorbike heritage on its programming, so that’s what it’s so reactive and maybe less smooth that others but, who buys R6 doesn’t want a boring cruiser! I’ve got brose, Yamaha and bosh at home and, as much as I like the smooth and quietness of the Brose, I definitely enjoy the crispness of the more racy Yamaha. Thanks again.

      Thanks Antonio. I also like the immediate delivery of power you get from the motor. But many other brands also do this just as well but without that twitchiness that you get. It just needs to be refined a bit, in my opinion. For example, the Bosch Gen 4 is absolutely immediate in the power delivery and helps getting started on super steep climbs 👍👍

    Solid Review! Thanks Rob! I can't wait to try this guy out when it comes to the states. Quality wise, it reminds me of a throwback to the 2016 Haibike XDURO Allmtn Pro, which is one of my favorite bikes of all time. Glad to see Haibike reestablishing themselves as top eMTB builders.

    DISLIKES: bugs me to see “dislikes” on content produced by this guy. From his shots, narration, experience, content, flow etc, it’s all produced extremely well, for free to you. It’s not directly sponsored. The amount of work it takes to produce a video like this, takes more than just time. The dislikes are just ignorant of that reality. Rob I recently got into E MTB after loosing my best friend 25 years ago when he hit my rear tire when we were doing a downhill in the Irish mountains. Your channel and others like Kyles are a delight to watch in a sport / hobby that is exploding.

    About time. The Yamaha Haibikes looked like they were being phased out since 2018 and I'm so glad to see them being developed again. My 2018 AllMTN 8.0 has been nothing but incredible and super reliable. Whilst everyone was whinging about their Steps, Brose and Bosch's the past couple of years, I couldn't understand why Yamaha wasn't even getting a mention. As for the "eager puppy" "it just wants to go" effect. I love it! but if you don't, just press the down button a few times to no power mode whilst you're resting. That eager puppy makes steep hill starts a breeze in Eco or standard mode. Great review as always Rob and shout out to Haibike for experimenting but not being afraid to go back. They nailed it with this spec.

      Indeed, I run the Yamaha PWX on my sidecar full suspension mountain bike where both driver and passenger pedal without any issues for more than one and a half year now. Changing gear in time, it is well capable of driving the total weight of 220 kg uphill. The extra push when starting is something I particularly like about the Yamaha engine for our heavy-weight sidecar. However, it is consuming fuel! On relatively flat, yet rather technical tracks in the Netherlands (Rijssen, Lochem, Hellendoorn) we empty a 500 Wh battery within 16 km...

    Excellent review, I’m intrigued to know more about the mullet setup and its advantages
    I have a 2020 Levo comp and I do think it is overwheeled at the back end relative to the early model, it may be in my head, but I feel a giroscopic effect when doing fast hard turns, not to mention the greater mud clearance issues with a 29er rear wheel. That said I am being picky as everything else is great.
    Having come over from motorbikes, I do think there’s something in a mullet set up... any chance of an in-depth feature... why some companies have gone mullet and why others sit on the other side of the argument, you could do some good interviews

    Rob -thoroughly enjoy your channel. Thank you for all you produce on eMTB bikes and topics. I only have a cheapo fat tire ebike at the moment which has been fun for sure but I want to pull the trigger on a real machine soon. Haibike's 2020 Allmtn 2.0 is a contender on my list but now this 2021 really is, as you say, outstanding -definitely giving the Turbo Levo Comp something to worry about. I truly hope it will be sold in the US. One small concern I have, however, is the carbon REAR triangle. In my research on emtb bikes I have come across a few riders saying to stay away from carbon rears because they have experienced cracking or other damage they don't experience with aluminum rears. I'm curious to know what you feel on the subject seeing that this bike is all carbon. Again, thank you for your reviews - they are invaluable.

What I find difficult to understand with the EMTB new ranges is that a bike for 4500/5000 has aluminium frame and fairly budget suspension/spec -but if you spend that little more the spec seems so much more premium for not alot of money..

      Haven't tried the Yamaha motor, but I like the natural way that a Shimano motor fades in the power when you start pedalling, it feels very natural, almost undetectable, as compared to the Bosch which jumps in hard when you start pedalling making it harder to control on a hill start, IMO. Sounds like the Yamaha is a bit like the Shimano in that respect. What's your opinion? Wider power/cadence range definitely appeals, the Shimano is quite temperamental on that score.

    Got this motor in my Giant Reign and it's well good. Sheeple are really sleeping on this motor and i don't now why. Yamaha are massive motox/superbikes hell they even built the engine in the Lexus LFA. rode 47miles in Active mode and still had 3 bars left in 4 hours 12 mins. all with 500wh. people going out in turbo mode and getting 15-20 miles then complaining it's not enough really need to earn there smiles per miles. but then again most of the country are work shy.

    I like the Yamaha system a lot and have experience of several Haibikes. Currently I own (and love) a 2019 Canyon Spectral:ON with Shimano E8000 system.
    I have to disagree with you about the amount of torque. I like the feature that you only get max torque on extra power mode. This suite my style of riding well, I can pop the power mode up while climbing, should I find the need more power. However, I'd much prefer having an app, where the rider could set the assist levels himself.
    I do agree that especially on EXPW starting up can be a bit sketchy, but one gets used to it - and I learned to drop the assist level down for that reason.
    I also agree that the display and switch unit is a bit cumbersome and not the most ergonomic. In fact, I much preferred the older style units, that they had a few years back in the PW-X first versions.
    Anyway, the bike looks great and the specs are spot on.

    • @RobRidesEMTB
      @RobRidesEMTB  3 года назад +1

    I think you're being a bit critical of the Yamaha motor - I find the instant power is a feature, working seamlessly with your leg muscles when you push the crank down to take off up hill. Instant power is awesome!! I've done over 8000km on my Giant Fathom E+2 Pro that uses PW-X (previous Yamaha motor version) and it has so far shown flawless reliability. Motor reliability and lifespan is top of my list when I shop for my next ebike.

    • @TheBikePilot
      @TheBikePilot 3 года назад

      He said it was a peach at 2:39 !! It's just being highlighted for the user experience as other motors don't do it. It's not bothersome at all, just something to be aware of if you've come over from another motor system. I hear nothing but great things about the reliability from the Yamaha System, but they are a very decent engine and electrics company so this seems right up their alley. I wish it was on more eBikes...

And that initial kick the Yamaha motors do is not crazy powerful, it is just light tapping helping you to start moving. Bosch motors do not have that instant torque kick and people complain about it because of it makes very difficult to start moving on steep hill up without instant kick.

Any normal person that will fit the XL will, with riding kit, exceed 96kg. This issue has been a common factor for at least the last couple of years now and Haibike, like Focus, have failed to address it. Roll on the new Kona 29er in September with 136kg rider weight limit. Let's hope you get to test one Rob, now that's a review i'd love to see.
