Sincerely, in Welsh language it sounds so blessed and most powerful! I am amazed and thankful, how God is keeping this language, while so many are disappearing worldwide.....from Switzerland
What a beautiful song. I hope Wales one day wake up to their roots and heritage once again. I hope the young people of wales never forget the great commission our Lord Jesus has commanded us. You do not know how us, in the third world countries have Jesus because of Wales missionaries. J.H. Lorrain and F.W. Savidge will be remembered for thousand years to come. For Millions have been saved because of the good people of Wales and Robert Arthington's generous funding a century ago.
Choking back the tears. Came across this AGAIN tonight, brought back memories of my Dad practicing in the bath... as many did. 22 years without you Dad. Never more than a breath away. Brought up in Rhymney valley in a time when English language was thought superior. I don't speak Welsh... But Diolch TMVC for my best memories!!!... and just to say ... the 73 recording was is and will be forever the best!
I am an Irish Roman Catholic living in Wales. I have learned Welsh and the words of the first few verses of this wonderful Methodist hymn have become a part of my life both at home and when I am going up to receive Holy Communion at Mass. It is a prayer - and a hymn - for all seasons and for all denominations.
When my son had a heart attack and died aged just 30 in January 2016 we sang this (in English because we are in Wigan) at his funeral, we intend to sing it in Welsh at a memorial concert in his memory later in the year. I hope we sing Calon Lan as well
+Alan Nixon God bless you Alan and your son - have you contacted any Welsh Choir to assit you at your sons memorial concert ? - I''m sure many would like to assist - good luck
My girlfriends father passed away a few backs so I came on youtube to look for funeral music ...blessing to your dad I'm sure you must've been emotional listening to this beautiful music xx
I was born in Cardiff and this hymn was taught to me by my grandmother. It is a constant joy when I travel and when at home to hear beautiful Welsh singing! Thank you all!!
I am an Irish Catholic living in Wales. I went to the trouble of larning Welsh and I say the words of this great Methodist hymn as a prayer when I go up to receive Holy Communion at Mass.
Tracey Gates I iove this music it's just brilliant its about Wales and the Welsh Music it's just beautiful. Iove from your follow Welsh Person ♥ 🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴💻😎😎🌍🎆
this is the first welsh song I learned off by heart. Its heartbreaking that I was born welsh but due to where I live I cant speak it very well. This makes me feel connected to my country.
"I Am Coming, Lord" (first line "I hear Thy welcome voice") was written and composed by Lewis Hartsough (1828-1919), of Epworth, Iowa, in 1872. Ira D. Sankey soon popularized this invitation song in the U.K., where John Roberts (a.k.a. Ieuan Gwyllt) rendered the lyrics into Welsh as GWAHODDIAD (Welsh for "invitation"). For the strong hymn tradition held in common by all British peoples and their counterparts in North America and everywhere else that heritage has gone, to God be the glory.
I am in tears too, Brian! I'm only part Welsh (the rest is Irish and French), but I still have the Welsh emotional temperament. Welsh people are wonderful and the music is stupendous. So much to be proud of.
I was born a Welshman with music in my heart. Alas I spent most of my life in England but when I reached retirement age I decided to return to my city of birth. I have no family or close friends so this seemed a good move for my twilight years. How wrong I was. I so wanted to belong to Wales. Perhaps I should have gone to Welsh Wales instead of the city. I lasted two years before I moved on. Wales will always flow through my veins and music like this stirs my soul.
The faith in our Lord Jesus Christ is what drives these male Welsh choirs. Single minded faith in the Saviour causes the Holy Spirit to descend, and fruits are the wonderful hymn. The world promotes Glastonbury Godlessness. But right living bears fruit in wonderful songs of Praise and celebration. Keep going for Jesus.
I love the sound, the harmony of Welsh Male Voice Choir singer - but why spoil the sound with a piano or organ playing the same time ? they are not needed. I head a unaccompanied Welsh Mail Voice Choir sing at Gatwick Airport on a warm Autumn evening as they waited for their flight to be announced - the whole airport stopped to listen to this beautiful sound that carried throughout the airport - this was in the 1980's when the Airport wasn't so large - people were reduced to tears listening to the beautiful songs and when they finished there was massive applause and thanks to them for singing. ah what beautiful memories :)
@@timothyphillips5043 and singing a capella means the whole tings is transportable and no piano or organ is needed. I have sung with a Sweet Adelines (ladies' barbershop style) chorus for many years, and just needed a Director and her pitchpipe!!
Words in English - I hear Thy welcome voice, That calls me, Lord, to Thee, For cleansing in Thy precious blood That flowed on Calvary. I am coming, Lord. Coming now to Thee: Wash me, cleanse me in the blood That flowed on Calvary. Though coming weak and vile, Thou dost my strength assure; Thou dost my vileness fully cleanse, Till spotless all, and pure. ’Tis Jesus who confirms The blessed work within, By adding grace to welcomed grace, Where reigned the power of sin. And He the witness gives To loyal hearts and free, That every promise is fulfilled, If faith but brings the plea. All hail, redeeming blood! All hail, life-giving grace! It's music like this that inspires me on my search, to never give up my dream,my great hope of finding the Welsh Johnny Cash. He's got to be out there somewhere. I thought perhaps Bryn Terfel was the one but no he was more than a good few eccles cakes short of the "Man in Black".Just think what such a find could do for Welsh nationalism.I shall NEVER give up...
I completely agree with you & I am not even Welsh....love them though. If you love 'Gwahoddiad' I think you may enjoy Cerys Matthews singing 'Arglwydd Dyma Fi' Kind wishes, 'Benny' (Plymouth). :-)

Coro maravilloso. No se olvida.

We sing this beautiful hymn after Communion at our Chapel in Tredegar. It is SO beautiful x
I am coming Lord is a poor translation. Dyma fi means, Here I am.

This is such a beautiful hymn. I come to it often to restore my soul.
What a wonderful hymn love it so much ❤️
Gwahoddiad = invitation. Going to see Treorchy Male Voice Choir in St George's Hall Bristol in June. I hope they sing this song.
No words to describe this choir. Other-worldly, perhaps?
Celestial perhaps?

Huw Wison (see his reply) has it right. Many chapels were proud of their organs and organ music was/is an integral part of their services.
Proud to be of Welsh descent. A Bevans, I am.
ALL GLORY TO OUR LORD AND KING JESUS WHO PAID IR RANSOM ON CALVARY.
HOSSANA IN THE HIGHEST
Reminds me of chapel all those years ago.
Nothing like a large male choir.
This reminds me of my Mother as she had a lovely singing voice being Welsh as I am
beautiful
Remindes me of Keith Johns, Blackwood
A 1994 broadcast of CBS Sunday Morning with Charles Kuralt brought me here
Beautiful, just Beautiful.
I am coming, Lord, coming now (or down) to thee. Wash me, cleanse me in thy blood that flowed on Calvary. (Chorus).🕊
Words in English -
I hear Thy welcome voice,
That calls me, Lord, to Thee,
For cleansing in Thy precious blood
That flowed on Calvary. I am coming, Lord.
Coming now to Thee:
Wash me, cleanse me in the blood
That flowed on Calvary.

All hail, the gift of Christ our Lord,

Thank you 🙏 Jb x

Diolch am bostio. Hardd iawn!
yes, it is
Most hiraeth song ever
Great just Great
It sounds very much like a Revival hymn . But I like it very much. In fact, I've been dreaming it. Still waiting for Hiraeth & Blaen -y-Coed.
Religious songs sound so much better in a language I don’t understand at all. Great voices and no religion involved for me.

Welsh is a British language. It is likely that the Picts spoke a language similar to it
yes, both Brittonic languages
It would be great if children at English schools had the opportunity to learn Welsh (or Scottish Gaelic). Children at Welsh and Scottish schools learn English, so why not the other way around.
Because far less than 1 million speak Welsh whereas English is used all around the world. It's a sad fact but true !
Is there any hymn remembered because it was played at the birth of a newborn baby ? Or a Christening, or early school days?
Here is Dowlais Male Voice Choir.
