I’ve noticed since I’ve stopped oiling my scalp, my scalp no longer flakes and it doesn’t itch. At the beginning of my Loc journey, I would oil my scalp like every other day and my scalp still flaked and itch so bad. I had to unlearn what I’ve been taught for years about oil and I stopped using oils on my scalp. It took awhile for my scalp to get used to me not putting oils on it. After going without oils for a few months, my scalp healed and no longer flakes and stopped itching. I only apply oils on my actual locs and I do that sparingly!

I had the same experience I have been 3 months not oiling my scalp and I no longer have the problem with flakes...prior to that I would scratch so bad and flakes would fall it looked like a snow globe

Sebum scooping has helped me a long way! My locs have grown a lot thicker due to trusting my own sebum... Which includes rubbing thru each part to assist the sebum down my new growth tresses to help spread the sebum...and drinking water, water, water!!! I do the sebum scooping once per week, using my fingers only! I also talk to my antennas (my locs lol) and I smoke them out to cleanse the energy of my locs as well by using white sage, frankincense and or dragons blood resins burning on charcoal! It works...talk to your hair people 🙂

I’m so glad I seen this video cuz I instinctively started feeling like “Okay I think I’m overdoing the oil” 😂 and I started doing exactly as you said and giving my scalp a daggon BREAK. I add rosemary oil after a shampoo, making sure my scalp has air dried up to being only slightly damp, so the follicles are still somewhat penetrable, and then I let my loc shafts dry till slightly damp and pat in some tea tree oil and let it sit and travel through the locs. Any extra moisture throughout the week comes from just misting water. I’m glad I’m actually doing right. ✌🏾✨

I lightly oil my scalp once a week. I was guilty of applying too much oil on my scalp and locs early in my loc journey which caused me a lot of build up. But once I figured out what I was doing wrong, I switched up to lightly oiling my scalp and that made ALL the difference for me.❤️

I oil my scalp once every week and a half. I do use oil on my locs after I wash while i am doing a retwist. I do sometimes spray with rosewater and then come behind it with oil about every two weeks in the winter and less than that during the summer. I apply light oil to my scalp after a shampoo. Then a dime size for the body of my locs on each side of my head. That’s it.

I moiturize my hair and w/ Moisture Infusion n follow with Mane Radiance on my hair only 3x a week (CROWN ELEMENTS baby) and I do oil my scalp once a week. As I learned from you I had to adjust slowly from every other day as my scalp was used to getting oiled every time it itched. When i 1st tried to NOT oil it, it itched more. Now I use Pure Scalp for any itching n once week oiling helps my head. Plus using the Scalp Revitalizer n massaging the scalp to distribute the natural sebum helps as well.

They probably don't really believe that. It's more about making sure the integrity of newer locs isn't compromised from all the things people do: oiling, shampooing (the wrong way), conditioning. It seems consultants are more lenient once the new phase is over. They don't want to have to fix a bunch of locs.

My question is, do I need to oil my hair at all?
I know the concept is that oil seals in the moisture, but it seems by hair has been happy with just using rose water daily or maybe just even two to three times a week. I wash either weekly, bi weekly or every three weeks
What’s interesting is that I do have sisterlocks ( 9 months in) and I was terrified by being told that I couldn’t use any oil and only use water here and there . However , my hair has been doing great and really soft and moisturized using ONLy rose water
Do you think I should still add in some oil once I get the green light to do so by my consultant or even before hand ?
(I also have seborrheic dermatitis so my scalp is typically happier without oil)
