- Hi and welcome back to my kitchen. So you have been asking for the recipe for my vanilla sponge cakes that I use in quite a lot of my video tutorials and here it is!!
In this video I will give you all the ingredients to bake my fluffy 6 inch round cake made up of 4x 1 inch layers covered in vanilla buttercream.
I hope you love the recipe and find it as delicious as I do!

Hi, I was just wondering what butter you use as I use Stork and I find it’s too oily if that makes sense x
Can i use oil instead of butter what will be the measurements for that?
What butter u used it is unsalted or salted butter?
Can you use vegan butter for the dough or does it have to be normal butter?
Omg! My neighbour tried ur recipe and i couldnt believe she made the cake!!! Was perfect! Loved how soft it was ♥️
Maybe..she *Is* your neighbour..
Your recipes are so simple and doesnot require too many recipes. For someone like me who bakes once in a while its not worth it to buy cream of tartar, buttermilk, sour cream blah blah blah i am sure professional need it to make perfect cake but iam happy with yummy easy to bake homemade cake so😅😅 Thankyou for your amazing recipes.
This recipe is perfect! Best sponge cake I’ve made and it was huge hit with the family😍 thank you!
Hi Audrey, That is amazing to hear. I am so glad it was a hit with your family x
hi audrey, did you use a fan oven to bake yours? if so did you do 180 for 45mins? do let me know xx
Audrey M did you convert to cups or did u use the exact measurements?
Best cake ever !!! Made this for my mums birthday yesterday and it was amazing. I’m eating it right now 😂 Can’t get enough !
Is the sponge not a bit too sweet?

Hi Lynsey x I’m preparing my cakes for next weeks eldest daughters 21st!! I’m freezing them and have made 4 as my 6” tins are lower than yours and I need height! I am super nervous but your step by step instructions are so easy to follow and you are super sweet and very talented. I will continue to follow and bake your cakes with my other 2 girls 18 & 15 as we just love the kitchen x see you soon and wish me luck! I’m gonna need it x
Did you use caster sugar ?
I did this recipe twice and it was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING ! Thank you so much 😍
That is so great to hear. I am so glad you liked it.
Seeing all of these happy reviews, I am gonna have to try this one! So far, EVERY single spongecake I have tried had so many, obviously unnecessary, steps or ingredients that I knew it would fail! And every single one did!! Who knew it could really be this easy! And to think of the cakes that went straight from the oven to the trash!! Thank you so much, Lynz!
HI Deb, you are very welcome. I really hope you enjoy this recipe. Let me know what you think x x
I can’t wait to try this out! Thanks for the great video.
I am so glad you enjoyed the video. I really hope you like the recipe.
Wondsrful recipe video! Thanks for sharing your video, knwoledge and art with the world!
I made this cake for Mother’s Day because my mums favourite is vanilla and it turned out amazing when I cut into it each layer was beautiful and tasted amazing my mum loved it so much she was so happy, will definitely make again thank you so much💓💓🥺
Hi can i use normal fluor.
@@LAPEKECaramelito yes of course you can but make sure you use a raising agent like baking powder otherwise your cake won’t rise☺️
Any tips for baking this cake?
Why would anyone dislike this video 🤔 love your videos, I'm hoping to make my son's 2nd birthday cake and your videos are so helpful
Thank you so much, you are so kind. I am so glad you find the videos useful x
Hi
Thank you so much for sharing this recipe I love it so so so much you made baking for me easy especially vanilla cake.
I done it for my Daughter 25th birthday and I received lots of compliments and defo I shared your RUclips video.
And in my house it's a weekend treat the vanilla cake with the icing on top.
All I can say to you I love all your video and I will try other recipes too
Love from east London ❤👍
I made this and it was quite dry. I really recommend using a splash of milk and some bicarb to get a really fluffy cake.
Maya L instead you can also add a drizzle of simple syrup when the cakes are baked
The truth finally thanks my mixture was dry too thanks next time ill add milk thing is am not sure how much milk can i put
For my 8oz/flour/butter/sugar, I use 4 eggs (largish). Maybe add another egg and a 2tbsp milk. Some flours differ, country to country and can alter the consistency
Bicarbonate of soda will do nothing without an acid to activate it… And then it will be a raising agent
Worst recipe ever from every aspect
I’m 8 years old and I made this cake by following your channel
I made the cake by my self
This cake was truly truly amazing!!! 😍😍 Thank you
I found your channel today and, I'm in love. Thanks so so so much for sharing!

Hi Sonia 👋 I hope my comment didn't sound as a form of privacy invasion your comment tells of a wonderful woman with a beautiful heart which led me to comment I don't normally write in the comment section but I think you deserve this complement. If you don’t mind can we be friends? Thanks God bless you
love it my family finished it in 5 mins
Really testy cake. I have already made two of your cakes, vanilla and chocolate both wonderful! Very moist and fluffy. Follow exactly your recipes but added less sugar ( my preference) but sill came good. Thank you!
That's great to hear, I am so glad you enjoy them and I am so glad you like the recipes.
For all those people asking about substitutes to granulated sugar , I normally crush my granulated sugar with a rolling pin in a hard wearing bag to make it into caster sugar .

This is really good and straightforward, the cupcake was straightforward so thank you so much
I love all of your cake recipes. Thank you so much. I’m going to try each and every recipe of yours. 😊♥️
Thank you for sharing this recipe and technique
Thanks for this wonderful recipe and tutorial...I used this for the Valentine's Day cake. You are talented at making cakes. :)
Loving your cakes, new to cooking and just got my first stand mixer for my birthday this week! I've tried what I thought was the non fan option on my cooker, but the cakes didn't cook at all. I always use the fan, so please could you recommend a temperature for a fan assisted oven and also how long this cake should go in for please. Thanks so much x
I’ve noticed fan ovens are much hotter than the conventional oven so low and slow would be better to bake the cakes at ..as they tend to cook faster on the outside and on top before middle 😅..so I would take down to 160 on a fan assisted oven and bake for longer like an hour checking at 40 mins 😊
im going to be using this recipie for valtines day cake lol
Me too 😁
Same😅
Same 🤣
How much would the measurements be in cups
I love this cake simply amazing
Thank you so much for sharing it is very easy for the beginners
Amazing video! Please let me know how I would turn this recipe into a 4 inch cake? ❤️

Ooh Lynz can't wait to make it because it looks sooo moist thanks Lnyz for your wonderful recipe Love you keep doing your great work appreciate it😜😜😘😍👏
Hi Adhith, You are very welcome. I hope you enjoy making it. This is one of my favourite cake recipes to make.
This is honestly the best recipe I have tried yet, so light and moist, I made it for a friend's son's birthday and they loved it to!
Thankyou so much for this I’m attempting my granddaughters birthday cake 😊
My God ! Finally i found a perfect recipe for cake and butter cream, Sending you lots of love and prayers from Canada
Hi Saima, I am so glad. I hope you enjoy the cake, its one of my favourites.
CakesbyLynz yes dear i am in love with this recipe.. want to make a request!! My daughters birthday is due in July and she loves unicorn... can u please make a unicorn themed cake?
Used this recipe for my brothers birthday loved it really good
I can’t wait to try this for my daughters birthday cake! This might be a silly question but can I use 2 2inch deep cake tins? Will they be deep enough since I will probably have to trim off the top and bottom, not sure if you use deeper cake tins 🤔
I really like this cake I have made it many times😁
Hi! I’m happy this recipe seems to be quiet simple without buttermilk and everything! But my batter is still kind of dry, can somebody convert the selfrising flour to exact measurements?
Thanks so much for this easy-to-follow recipe. I tried it and my mixture is a lot thicker and stiffer than yours. And it is quite grainy and caves in the middle. What could I be doing wrong? I really will appreciate your response. Thanks in advance.
Brilliant I will definitely try this method!
I loved the recipe, I'm gonna make this cake, thank you.
baking powder isn't necessary in this cake?
Maybe I will try it and see , because it looks very quick and easy
Hi I'm just wondering how much self raising flour to take out and how much Cocoa powder to put in? I usually take off 20g flour and add 20g Cocoa powder for cupcakes.
Love your recipe 😍
Hi Lynsey
I am using your standard sponge mixture, with 6inch square tin how much should I fill the tin for baking. If I put in too much batter will it sink in the middle? Love your videos👍👍cheers Mike
So amazing...thank you for sharing❤️
Hi you are an amazing person thank you so much for sharing this wonderful video of you. I’m from Nigerian we love you so much. One more thing it seems the recipe didn’t come with baking powder
Thanks for making and sharing this wonderful recipe
Hi Nishi, You are very welcome. I hope you like it.

6:30 Thank you for this tutorial as I am a beginner this helped a lot
I’m new to sponge cakes. This recipe looks crazy easy and I always love your channel. I thought you are supposed to put a syrup on a sponge cake?
My batter turned out thick. Hopefully it turns out ok
How did it turn out? My batter was thick too so I added an egg and milk. Turned out okay.
I'm enjoying while watching, I'm interested to know more how you doing spongecake recipe
Thanks. This looks super exciting to make. Around here i dont get self raising flour. Only all purpose flour. What amount of baking powder or soda do i use?
1 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon of salt per cup of flour
@@ridzuanezzuddin Super Thanks!
Hi, it looks lovely! I’m gonna follow this recipe. Just wondering if i could add Jam to the inside of this cake as well? 😌
Hi Lynz thank you for your recipe. Just a beginner question, does the amount of sugar affect the height of the cake? This looks like a lot of sugar to me so just wanted to know if I can cut the sugar and still get the same end product. Thank you very much!
Hey do you use large or medium eggs x
I will try tomorrow
Hi this recipe is amazing. But can you please tell me how to make sponge cake like this Without EGGS please
Amazingly simply recipe, cake very tasty!)) Thank you very much for Lithuania))
The cake looks amazing! I was wondering if I can substitute caster sugar for granulated sugar? Cheers
Same thing.
Very helpful dear thanks 😊
Hi, Where do you get your cake tins from?? Many thanks xx
I get them from hobby craft
@@eac3391 me too!
Hi everyone can I make 3 6 inch cakes from this batter instead of 2 6 inch cakes so I don't have to cut them ?
Hi . Tq for sharing my dear.. Can i use lesser sugar .. Love fr Malaysia💕
❤ Thanks .Just want to confirm, the butter cream quantity was enough to complete the cake ? or used extra 🤔
Hello Linzy I'm from Africa and love your videos sooo much...love the recipe but can I use oil instead if butter...how much if I can in cups.
This is amazing🙌🏽😍 can I have measurements for 9inch cake
ive tried this just today and whilst baking the edges get quite brown and the middle is not cocked in the outside however tasted amazing! I also have a question as to y it happens
fatema hussain did you set the oven too high? That is a very common thing where the heat isn’t spread evenly
Thankyou for this tutorial 🥰🥰😘😘😍😍
Thanks for sharing your recipe. Very kind!

Hi from Belarus, its wonderful!!!
I've just done this following this exactly just didn't turn out well and I bake cakes all the time
I'll wait till it comes out of oven
😢 I won't give up I'll keep going I done 2 batches so I'll see what the second one looks like
Well the kids will eat it regardless lol
Love Yr easy videos
I'm practicing these for my grandsons birthday cake
My mixture wasn't so runny is it because I used a electric hand mixture just trying to see where I've gone wrong 😅 they came out lovely but sunk in middle the first batch
i love it. can ii go 6 inches by just adding more batter
Can you swap butter for veg oil if yes, then what will be the measurements??? What is the measurements for your baking powder and baking soda??
Do you use salted butter or unsalted ?
Hi Lynsey its Liz here from Australia. Happy New Year. I have just tried to make your vanilla sponge cake recipe however, mine was not as smooth and a little runny like yours. I did add in milk but it was still a cup cake consistency - any hints? I followed your recipe exactly.
How do u convert this recipe for a 4inch and a 8 inch as need to do a 3teir did the 6inch and it turned out well thank you love the video x
Love your videos 👏👏😍😍 going to try this recipe today 💐

Can I use one 8" cake tin for this recipe?
Yeah I was wondering
Hi Lynz, your cake conversions is on point. Thank you so much. Does the conversion also apply to buttercream/ganache too or is it just for the cake mix?
I love this videos
Hi can I just check that it is 2 tablespoons of vanilla extract as this seems a lot? Thanks
Hi! Gorgeous looking cakes. How would I adjust to make a chocolate sponge please?
is the butter unsalted for the cake mix?
I'm doing 3layer 8inch cake today .I use double recipe and I use 3 normal cake tin not the flat one .I put the batter about 800gram in each tin and bake about 60or 65mins and it's looks absolutely perfect.I line the baking paper around my tins instead of just butter and flour .I did try to seperate in 2cake tin 2days ago and it took long time to bake ..and cake turned to very brown and hard and very dry ,totally burn from outside

For eggless version what should be used ?
I tried this recipe but it was very thick. Should I add another egg or some milk? Thank you for the recipe.
Mine is very think too. What do I need to add? Milk? Another egg?😢
@@ChristinaVargas-lv9wsits supposed to be quite thick
@@hanamaryamx Lynz batter is not as think as mine. I didn't know if my measurements were off because I go by cups, not grams.
@@ChristinaVargas-lv9ws maybe thats why… i used grams mine was thick and they turn out just right
I found this thick too and modified it till it came put roght defo added more liquid
will try this recipe tomorrow. One question do egg size matter? Should I buy Medium or large or doesn't matter?
Hi Lynx, what is your opinion on cake tin bands? Apparently they help level cakes, and stop the crust forming around the edge. I have been given Wilton bands, but not yet used them. I also have deep tin sizes..
Very cool
Hey! I love all your cakes...as a professional baker please can you tell me what can I use instead of eggs as I’m vegetarian and don’t eat eggs x
Yummy! 🤍
Can we use all purpose flour for this recipe?
Hello. I'm french so I apologise for my english. I hope you'll understand me😉.
Thank you for this recipe. I must make a cake for a baby shower and it will be the first time. Is it possible to replace the butter cream by a chocolate ganache?? And have you a video to show how to make little shoes for a boy?? Thank you so much. Gaby
Lovely video, what measurements would I use for 2 8 inch cake tins? Thanks!
aisha daud hey ! I have this issue too, did you find out ?
Yep!
I would love to know as well
Hi @cakesbylynz, I like very much all your videos, they're awesome and very inspiring. I have a question, you have used oil in the preparation of cakes instead of butter. and how much oil would you use?
Heya ! Love your recipes for the cakes x I just want to ask, when you say normal oven, is this the same as conventional oven with the line at the top &bottom? I've been using fan and the edges of the cakes comes out too baked and not nice brown like yours xx Appreciate your help in this xx
