    Hi there E-Wolf - That stubborn bear appeared WAY too close! 😮. Glad he eventually left the trail so you all could continue. Thank you for the history of SNP - not only do you provide us with interesting videos we’re getting educated along the way! Glad you are living in the moment and enjoying each day and only looking a few days ahead. Now for all of us here ....well we are counting the days to your next vlog! Stay safe 😎✌🏻

    Very interesting video. 2 neat more, completely different folk on the trail- actually more. I enjoyed seeing all sorts of gear setups from the really minimalist tarp and bivy to what looked like traditional pack loads and everything in between. Sometimes we get the impression that everyone out there is carrying Hyperlite packs, Z-packs bear bags an a Duplex tent. Thanks for reminding us that there is still room on the trail for almost everyone.

    Great video. Colony House has become our home base when visiting SNP. So funny to see your bear encounter. I had the exact same experience with the bear sitting in the trail there and it took half an hour to coax her off the trail. I'm pretty sure she works that stretch from Turks Mountain trail up to Brown Gap. In 2016 she had two cubs with her. Hope you were able to make it to Waynesboro in time for the hiker fest. It's one of the best! Thanks again Evan.

    I really liked this edit...awesome vid. I love seeing vids of parts of the trail I've already done. That view from Blackrock is one of my favorite in the park! You had awesome weather for it! Fantastic bear shot...other than it was stubborn! I was just there at Blackrock hut again this weekend picking up some missed miles in the southern section of the park. Must have just missed you by a day or so. Hike on!

    • @EvansBackpackingVideos
      @EvansBackpackingVideos  6 лет назад

      Trail magic used to mean anything happy and unexpected that happened on the trail, usually perpetuate by a stranger. “A random act of kindness by a stranger” was one early definition. Now it usually means people giving food and drinks to AT hikers at road crossings. Glad you’re watching!!

    I am sure that I speak for many, when I say that it was really interesting to see the minimalistic set-up that Oscar uses. Hopefully, you will do more of these. Was all of his equipment of similar sparseness? I assume so, as I see from his Instagram that he did a 56 mile day recently. Now that you have shown us what he uses, are you worried that your subscribers will think you less crazy for having the set-up that you do? :-) Will be on the lookout for your Pappy interview; had heard of him, now will hear from him....

    Last week I took my kids to Shenandoah, and before we went there, I searched RUclips and found out this one. I liked this video so much I ended up watching all your Appalachian videos. I truly enjoyed them, and thank you for sharing them. I hiked part of the AT from Maine to VA. One question I have is what kind of camera did you use. I use GoPro9, but your videos are way better quality.

    I have soooo many questions, but this time I wanted to ask about how the diet is working out. I try to go low carb all of the time and backpacking is the most challenging time (though I am getting a lot of tips from you). It looks you're sticking to it well and from what I've seen it looks like you're sticking to it even when you get to town. Do you allow yourself anything special when you get to town that might be higher carb? I notice that you do have a beer now and again, and that is one thing that I would give myself when I got into town.

    • @EvansBackpackingVideos
      @EvansBackpackingVideos  6 лет назад +1

      I’m eating a TON of cream cheese lately. That’s my biggest diet change. In town, I have a beer now and then but still skip bread. I’ve had no pizza, bread or pasta on the trail. (Well, I had one hot dog bun.) Potatoes only twice. I did load up on sugar a few times in town when I was most worried about losing weight. When I weighed myself two days ago, I was up two pounds-so I haven’t lost any weight on the hike, which was one of my biggest concerns.

    Hard to believe that you've only seen two bear so far. I've run across four on a short day hike with the family out there. There is no hunting in the park so the wildlife gives zero cares about humans as we make our way through their homes. Like I said though be mindful of the deer. My guess is that tourist tend to feed them but they will come right on up to you if you have food out.
    I had to laugh at the comments about flat, wood chips, and blackberry milkshakes. You can at least get the milkshakes at the lodges along with blackberry wine and syrup. I'd personally rather have the sour beer on a hot day. Nothing like a sour in the summer :-)
